I own three Android devices currently (for work purposes). the nexus, EVO, and incredible. I can easily state that the iPhone 4 camera shoots better still pictures and video compared to all three of those devices. The difference is especially clear in shooting videos. Its no contest.
+ 1. :p

They've already released a statement saying that they're updating the Galaxy S to Froyo. Also, this is going to be such a popular phone that the hacker community will provide whatever Samsung doesn't.

You are correct. In addition the Galaxy in it's various states for AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint has been certified for Android ver. 3.1 Gingerbread. This OS will eliminate the Sense UI, Moto Blur & others. I've taken a brief look at the beta and it's awesome.

bad track record.. really !! im sorry i didnt know someone could build a track record in a year.. seeing that android hasn't even been out that long.. shut up fanboy.. your really starting to get annoying.. that one video about the apple fanboy is spot on.. please stop being so biased...

You have been reported no need to be so rude and android has been out longer than a year.

And i was referring to the Samsung Behold which people got upset about because samsung had promised upgrades past 1.6 then decided that they wouldn't upgrade it past 1.6

I would hope so, with the massive head start Apple has over Android it should be better, that's just common sense.

It's not the case. Camera obviously has little to do with the OS and HTC and Motorola were building camera phones (including smart phones) long before Apple decided to release one.

If that's the case, then it's funny to know that Apple's camera on the iPhone is better than both companies' current smartphones. :D

P.S. Software plays a big part in the camera. It's one reason Apple's camera is so good. ;)

Is this a joke? Or do you really work at Google?

I think it will. HTC doesn't have very good leverage. I talked to an attorney who's all over this kind of stuff, and this is what he said:

"Apple will likely beat HTC, and I am not sure that Apple is interested in settling the case. HTC counter-asserted patents that Apple clearly does not infringe."*

See? :apple:

While I respect his opinion an an attorney, a judgment like that would be devastating to HTC, and would be rather unprecedented, which is why I find it unlikely. I also don't know that I buy that none of HTC's patents are infringed by Apple.

Macworld isn't a bias site. They're not blinded like fanboys. They see problems, they're fair, and they don't lie. The testing they conduct is professional, unlike yours. Here: http://www.macworld.com/article/152314/2010/06/iphonecameratests.html

really did you just link me to a site called "Macworld" and say they don't lie and are fair? Get the fawk out of here. The link I posted shows real world proof from us forum users here. Also how can anyone take anything you say serious with that user name?

First off, Gingerbread is going to be 2.3/3.0.

Second, unless you work in Google's Android development section, you have not seen Gingerbread in action.

Lastly, The new UI thing is a rumor as is everything you have heard about Gingerbread.

Conclusion: lol, nice try.

You realize that it was a blind test, right? They had no idea where the picture they were looking at came from to eliminate any potential bias.

As I understand it the iPhone 4's camera doesn't absolutely blow the EVO away (excluding video as I understand it) but it does take slightly better pictures while being down on the megapixel count.

I don't trust them, Apple should take them to court for blatantly ripping off the iPhone. Samsung recently passed HP to become the worlds largest electronics companyand I see them as a threat to Apple. Steve should do to them what he did to Microsoft and Google before it's too late.

So which issue do you really have with Samsung? They are a threat or you think Samsung ripped them off? Companies copy others all the time and Samsung isnt using Apples system. In fact, Apple is using Samsungs processor in the iPhone.

You dont want anybody to give Apple any compitition? If that is the case them Apple could do minimal upgrades and you would still pay through the nose for them because nobody is pushing them to make a better product and it would be the only touch screen phone. I dont understand your take on this.

Oh wait, look at your username.

That's exactly why Apple sued them. They were infringing some of their patents, and yes, it would be very devastating to HTC, and I could really care less. When HTC counter-sued, everyone in the tech world could clearly see Apple didn't infringe any of them - their comeback was very weak, and, according to the attorney, won't stop Apple in the lawsuit. It's not just his opinion, it's mostly fact.

Yes. I did. Again, they are not a biased site. They take everything into consideration. They're not "everything Apple" like most of the Mac sites. And no, if you'd like to swear at me, you may leave the forums! As for the user name, I like Apple and think they're a great company. I just wasn't very creative when choosing the name. Lastly, I'm not a fanboy. I can clearly see problems in Apple's technology. Happy? :apple:

P.S. I'm using the quote below by DeathChill to further support my claim. You're not a professional. Macworld is. They've been reviewing and analyzing these kinds of things for a long time. Enough said.

I'm sure he will. Time to bring out the boxing gloves! :D

First off, Apple designed the chip. It's their own custom silicon. It's only being manufactured by Samsung. Yes, companies tend to copy each other, but if it goes to far, like HTC, you get sued. You are also right about competition. If Apple didn't have any, upgrades would be minimal and there would be a smaller amount of innovation. Competition is healthy. :apple:

[Merged] Samsung Captivate -

This might be useful information for some. Personally, I am not interested as I am a happy iPhone 4 owner but I am sure some will be.

The purpose of this thread is to be informative in regards to, in my opinion, the second best phone AT&T will offer.

Samsung Captivate coming to AT&T on July 18 for $200

68d76590fc59c2b.jpg

We've just gotten official word that the Captivate -- AT&T's rendition of Samsung's global Galaxy S line of high-end Android phones -- will be available starting Sunday, July 18 for $199 on contract with no rebate required. That pricing is more or less what we'd expected considering that T-Mobile priced the Vibrant the same way -- and if rumors of T-Mobile's launch date bump are true, the Captivate won't be the first kid on the block. Still, all four US nationals are getting this thing pretty shortly, which is an extremely impressive Android coup for the boys and girls over at Sammy. Stay tuned for a review just as soon as we can make it happen.

Hardware: The 4-inch Captivate isn't as large and in charge as the 4.3-inch Droid X or EVO, but in our opinion it's just the right size. While the design isn't all that unique, there's something about the all-screen phone that is pretty striking, and there's no denying that the hardware was very thin and light in hand. The curved bottom lip reminds us of the BlackBerry Storm for some reason, and it too has four touch sensitive buttons. Oh, and for those that were hoping the Captivate looked like the Galaxy S, we can confirm that the two look more like distant cousins than siblings.

Screen: The Captivate has the same Super AMOLED display as the Galaxy S, and we'll have to agree with our English counterpart who said "it is one of the finest displays you can hope to lay eyes on." We didn't get to test the display in sunlight, but indoors and outdoors (around dusk) it was seriously bright and crisp. The photos and video below don't really do justice to the quality, but when we watched a video clip colors just popped and looking at the preloaded wallpapers was all sorts of glorious. We found the capacitive touchscreen itself to be mighty responsive.

Software: The phone we saw was running Android 2.1 and some version of Samsung's TouchWiz -- we're assuming it's 3.0 like the Galaxy S we saw in London a few days ago. The skin isn't too distracting and actually polishes up Android a bit. There's the ability to decorate the panes with Samsung widgets, one of which includes a funky social networking feed. There's also a helpful settings bar that reveals itself when you slide down the Android window shade. Samsung's also preloaded Swype, which is always a welcome addition. All in all, we're just happy to see AT&T hasn't done much to the OS, or at least as far as we could tell. Sure, there are the usual carrier applications, like AT&T Navigation, Music and Tones, but that's really about it.

Camera: For some reason the Captivate doesn't have a dedicated physical camera button or a flash, but its 5-megapixel camera took some decent quality shots from what we could tell in our short time with it. We didn't have any problem focusing and snapping some pics. When we went to shoot some 720p video, there wasn't any lag in capturing, and for whatever it's worth, playing the video on the screen looked crisp and clear.

Performance: Here's the part where we hope to the powers that be that Samsung is hard at work or the Captivate we saw was an extremely early model. The phone we demoed was powered by an ARMv7 processor running at 800MHz -- though according to the official press release the phone is planned to have a 1GHz ARMv7 core (a Samsung Hummingbird, to be specific). Regardless, it was quite sluggish when maneuvering through menus, launching apps and trying to back track to the homescreen -- it was nowhere near as snappy as what we've seen in videos from the Galaxy S or as the Droid X we saw last week. The model we saw was confirmed to be a few months old, so our guess is that the final version will be a whole lot snappier than what we saw. Or at least that's what we're really hoping since the rest of the Captivate experience was pretty, well for lack of a better word... captivating.

Updated (6/29): We got to see a closer to final version of the Captivate at Samsung's US launch event. Everything about the phone was virtually the same, except for the performance. Things were definitely snappier and smoother on the newer model, though there was still some lag when opening applications and switching panes. There will be more impressions to come though in our upcoming review.

Not all android phones are called "DROIDS". As of right now there are only 3 "DROID" phones. The original moto droid, Droid Incredible, Droid X. Droid Eris does not count. P.S this is an IPHONE forum.

Ummmm, yeah..... let the flaming begin. You know what's going to happen when you post stuff like this here but couldn't help yourself huh.

Alternative

Really looking to get the IP4 the 2nd week of August when I'm eligible for a full upgrade w/AT&T. However if Apple doesn't address the prox. sensor and antenna issue, this phone WILL be my fallback position.

LMAO, I was thinking the same thing, just figured I'd try and drop some info first. This is a complete copy and paste of the engadget article. Just post a link next time, no need for the WHOLE article

Looks like an AWESOME phone!! I would love to give one a try. I'm using an X10 and it still has 1.6 on it. Update coming in Q4.

Thanks for posting!!

The flaming is just immaturity. I have had iPhone's since 07 and really like my 4 but this phone looks nice. Let's try to keep the idiocy to a minimum.

Loving my iPhone 4! Glad I have another line that is upgrade eligible so I can get a white one as well.

I don't care about droids. I'm getting iPhones every year until Apple stops making them. Oh and why is this even posted here? It's an iPhone forum and not a droid forum.
