Loving my iPhone 4! Glad I have another line that is upgrade eligible so I can get a white one as well.

I don't care about droids. I'm getting iPhones every year until Apple stops making them. Oh and why is this even posted here? It's an iPhone forum and not a droid forum.

To answer your question "why is this even posted here" its because those who want other alternatives for the many issues IP4 currently has. I absolutely prefer iOS4 over the android OS and wishing (fingers crossed) that Apple fixes the problems so I can own the IP4. But I don't want to wait till IP5 comes out.

Did you read the title? iPhone alternative for AT&T... This is not about droid but about a nice new, iPhone alternative, phone coming to AT&T. Since the iPhone in the states is locked to AT&T it inherently makes it relevant.

But its $200 with contract, if your gonna spend that money and are willing to use AT&T why not just buy the iPhone?

Good point. But with the problems IP4 now has (for a vast majority of users) why would I want it? There is no perfect smartphone..... but whatever we choose should be as problem-free as possible.

It's a nice looking phone, but AT&T seems to lock down the android in perplexing ways. They (in the past) forced owners to only use the one android based market instead of allowing you to install anyware.

They added a lot of premium crapware, in that they installed apps that will cost you a monthly fee eventhough some of which can be found on the net for free (if you could install it on an AT&T android phone) and in at least one case, they replaced google with yahoo as the default search engine - that one makes no sense to me.

I personally agree, though it is always nice to have alternatives.

Some people may not want the walled garden approach that apple phones lock you into.

There's the many documented issues with the iPhone, kung-fu death grip, proximity sensor, green blotches, yellow screen, improper whitebalance for the camera.

Hence the purpose of this thread... :)

Very true and something that does concern me w/AT&T. All the carriers look for ways to nickle and dime us to death. This is a negative that has to be weighted when considering it.

By saying it's an iPhone alternative makes it instantaneously weak.

Really? Maybe you can tell us why?

Just because its AT&T and/or Android-based doesn't make it inferior. iPhone's UI is better (at least for now) and no one can beat the features/benefits of the App store. But this phone can do all the basics of the iPhone and give users functionalty on the go.

Not sure about that. So if I decide to buy a Chevy vs. a Toyota (due to their recalls/problems) its not a vehicle alternative? Hmmmmm......

Exactly. Both are automobiles but both hardly share the same hardware and software. Not sure, again, how this analogy is relevant.

iPhone alternative = a phone which can compete with the same functuality as Apple's iPhone.

As an android phone AT&T pretty much crippled it. You can only install apps from the android marketplace. One of android's strengths is its freedom for customization, and this phone lacks that. Adding insult to injury, this phone is the same as the awesome looking samsung galaxy s... But AT&T removed the front facing camera!

No thanks, I'll stick with the i4 over this. What a joke

Yep another feature to consider (no front-facing camera) but w/o FaceTime some users may not care. And with AT&T's new data pricing restrictions for new smartphone users, video calling over 3G/4G may not be desirable anyway.

Really looking to get the IP4 the 2nd week of August when I'm eligible for a full upgrade w/AT&T. However if Apple doesn't address the prox. sensor and antenna issue, this phone WILL be my fallback position.

If the updates don't fix my iP4 problems, this may be my next phone also.

I don't mind hearing about other phones. I've been using the iOS for two years and will be using it for another two years. As much as I love my iP4, looking at the same ol' tiles does get boring. The UI really hasn't changed much and Apple is barely just letting us change the homescreen background after THREE years without JBing it. I figure some posters are still new to the iPhone world or too dense (blind fanboy) to look for any alternatives. Variety is the spice of life! There are people out there who don't drive just ONE car or men who can't stick with ONE woman. Right, playa? ;P Nothing wrong with carrying different phones either. I knew people who own iPhone for fun, but still used a BlackBerry for work. Open your eyes.

To me, the best GSM-based Android is still the Nexus One. I am not a fan of Samsung products to be honest with you even though they do make some of the internal chips and screen for other companies. At least the Galaxy S series meet the Gingerbread requirements. I just like the form factor of the Nexus One more. It also is more *rare* since it didn't sell so well because of the lack of marketing. The occasional cynic in me doesn't always want the most popular and carry around a phone that everybody has. With 1.7 mil iP4 sold in three days doesn't make me feel special. With the black bumper on, the iP4 can be confused for any older iPhone. Think different, right Zealots? That's why I was looking into the Nexus One...

Google's first-born and likely only son. First superphone of 2010. It will get all the updates first. Unlocked too. The epitome of the "geek" phone. After 6+ months of release, it could still hold its own. The Froyo update just made it blitz ahead of the pack when it comes to web browsing.
