Before you buy an Evo do check out a Samsung

The spec is very impressive and you can pick them up new on Ebay for a good price. 4" super amoled screen,Flash compatible,5mp camera with video 720p@30fps, 512k of RAM, 1ghz processor they even chuck in an FM radio!..

Thanks I'm gonna google it and see what's its all about. Disappointing thing I heard about the evo was you have to have wired headphones plugged in for FM radio to work. Not a deal beaker right now. Also waiting to hear about the samsung galaxy pro.

I have a 3rd gen ipod touch 32 GB and will probably get the new version this year. Don't know why so many have to be rude cause someone else has their own opinion. People assume your a troller just cause you don't like the phone. Come on man ... Grow up. I have other Apple product. Also considering an ipad at some point. No flash is keepin me from pullin the trigger. Your supposed to respect others opinions and reply accordingly. I learned that when I was 5.Guess some people have some growing up to do still. Stop acting like republicans ... Oh wait you fanboys probably don't watch the news.

Son-uv-a-b**** ..... YOU'RE RIGHT!! G******it! I didn't get any either!! Well ****, this changes everything! Everything I tell you! That's it, I'm shaving my cats, selling my iPhone, and moving to Nepal to be a hermit.

No stickers ...Steve Jobs cheapA** S*B!

:D:D

I got stickers with my iPhone 4. I'll share :D

OP, sorry you don't like the phone.

I gambled and lost. I was debating on which to get I even posted a thread for help. Thanks to those that posted. But I haven't been more upset with a piece of hardware. I went with the iPhone because of its popularity. Went with what I thought was the more polished company over Android. Guess I was wrong.

Talked for a whole 5 minutes out of at least 12 attempts to make calls only to find out there is a hardware flaw with thu antenna. That coupled with horrible phone service with AT&T this is a disaster. Not to mention the data cap !

I was hoping for a rich phone experience. But all I have is a glorified ipod that just looks good. I will be switching to the Evo asap. If a bad battery is my only hurdle I'll take my chances. Not many new features on this phone either. Facetime is wi fi only which I knew before but with all these other problems I'm passing on the iPhone 4. Maybe I'll try again next year.

I was so excited to see the new ehancements in 4G
I go it yesterday no issues with activation but reception is awful ,( I guees I am one of he few ujsers who don't know how to hold the phone per Mr Jobs) I returned 4G and happy back with my slooooow 3G :)

Not a hardware flaw.

This is not a hardware flaw, it's an issue that will be fixed within iOS 4. My wife has a 3G and the same issue of the signal going down when you hold it in your hand occurs. I have duplicated this many times with the 3G. This did not happen to her phone until it was updated to iOS 4.

As an EVO owner, I can say that you will be sorry. If you want an Android device look at the nexus 1. The EVO is a major dissapointment.

No problems here... wouldn't trade my iphone4 for ANYTHING. I don't drop calls much, but usually have poor reception in my garage/basement/bedroom. Had a long conversation all over my house and in my garage and not only did I not drop a call, but the volume was much louder, and the call was much clearer so I could hear even when my air conditioning unit in the backyard kicked on AND a train was passing by. Hmmph!

I've had the iPhone since day one of the very first iPhone. I recently bought an Evo to try out while the iPhone 4 was released. Today I got my iPhone 4 and I also am a bit dissapointed. I do have the reception problem but hope a case will resolve the issue. I would go back to the Evo because in my opinion the built quality is better and overall feels much better than the new iPhone design. I however do not go back because of the OS, there is no comparison in my opinion between Android and iOS. The apps in the iPhone are also much better than comparible apps in Android. I am however disappointed that face time works only via WiFi although I am pretty certain that it was a decision driven by AT&T. Good Luck with the Evo.

Good luck with the HTC EVO, I purchased an Evo on June 4th and by the 14th I had returned the first one due to severe light leakage and the capacitive buttons remaining lit at all times unless the battery was removed from the device. I then got a replacement evo and got tired of the jittery scrolling and animations due to the 30 frames per second cap on the device that HTC decided to implement. There are tons of Evo owners with the bottom left corner of the glass coming apart from the body.

Theres also the 65K color limitation to deal with, the terrible frame rate while recording video. The games that are available for the Android market, run poorly thanks again to HTC's 30fps cap. By all means though, enjoy your Evo. The only thing I do miss is Google's turn by turn navigation on the phone. Very nice.

I am not going to rag on the OP because if he doesn't like the phone, he doesn't like the phone.

But I am going to rag on his ragging on the data cap stuff.

I have four iPhones on my plan, and I have not come near 2 GIGs of data usage COMBINED in a month yet.

With all the available Hot Spots out there, plus WIFI in the house and at work, it makes it real easy to not use data much.

I think the whole data plan thing is way over blown.

:D:D

I know, right??? Cheap ass bastards!!!

bwah ha ha ha ha... oh wait you were serious?

seriously the kin is crap

Maybe that's why MS hasn't sold more than about 500 of the things. I haven't seen one, but they look cheap as hell.

"not to mention the data cap"

Really, in your one day of having the phone has that really negatively affected you?

Apparently it's news that Apple is under AT&T?

I have said it on Engadget's site and Ill say it here...

I have had AT&T since the 3g was a few months into its rise and the number of dropped calls I've had is less than 5. Guaranteed.

Maybe I'm lucky, but if the iPhone came out on every carrier on the planet I wouldn't change mine.

Have fun with your Evo. Please enjoy it and the evo forums.

The free "Mapquest" turn by turn navigation is pretty awesome!

Non-biased review on iPhone 4 v. EVO

This is posted in the iPhone forums because the phone being reviewed is an iPhone.
I own an EVO, however got to play with an iPhone 4 for an hour, and can do a pretty good job reviewing it for anyone interested in the EVO.

Overall design

iPhone 4
The iPhone 4 simply looks sexy, the front looks very similar to previous iPhones, not counting the front facing camera on the iPhone 4. The back has an all new glass look that is very sleek and the silver lining around the iPhone and buttons are also very well put together, it is also very thing and very sleek looking.

EVO
This is one of the only android devices that I can honetly say looks pretty sleek. The screen obviously is huge, but the black color in the front of the phone looks very sleek and powerful. The screen is gigantic, the capacitive buttons on the buttom look very clean and organized. The reason I say this is one of the only android devices that looks sleek is because when you look at the mytouch 3g and G1 and all the ugly buttons they have on the bottom it does not make the device look clean. The Evo is thicker than the iPhone 4 but they both have good weight.

Overall
Both devices are very sleek and sexy, but because of the kickstand and red coloring on the EVO, the iPhone 4 wins in terms of overall design.

Screen

iPhone 4
The iPhone has had a 480x320 screen resolution for 3 years, now the iPhone packs a whopping 960x640 resolution screen. And it looks amazing. Before I owned the EVO, I had a hero and Palm pre, both phones had the same resolution as the old iPhone's but the iPhone always had this bright, colorfull display that was unparalleled to any other phone. However when I got the EVO, which has an 800x480 screen resolution the EVO won. Well the iPhone 4 is back in first. The screen is like having a mini High definition TV in your hands. It is crisp, very bright, and the colors look fantastic. The iPhone has always had the most sensitive screen on a phone, which makes it very easy and fun to use.

EVO
The evo packs a 4.3 inch screen with an 800x480 resolution screen and it is huge! I also have an iPod touch that I use, and after using the EVO for 2 days, the iPhone screen just felt tiny. Text looks very clear and organized on the screen, and when you are surfing on the web it is like having a tablet in your hands, the KB is very nice, and gives you plenty of space to type on. EVO has a very nice screen as well.

Overall
Tie. Both devices have positives, that in the end their is no clear winner. If you want a bigger screen the EVO is for you, if you want a sharper more crisp screen the iPhone is for you. And although the EVO has a 4.3 in screen the iPhone still has a 3.5 inch screen, which is not as big, but definitely not a small screen.

Camera

iPhone
Apple was never the type of company that focused on specs and just throwing numbers at you, they are more interested in a good user experience. The iPhone has a 5 megapixel camera with 720P HD video recording, and the photos and videos look great. The previous iPhone models have had 2 and 3 megapixel cameras but still take great looking pictures because they use good quality products. Its not about specs, its about how well it preforms.

EVO
The EVO has an 8 megapixel camera with 720P HD video. The photos and videos also look very nice, but are not as crisp as the iPhones. The EVO has a very very bright flash, as does the iPhone, but the EVO's is just a tad better.

Overall
Both devices have front facing cameras as well, and the same video camera, But the iPhone still takes better more crisp photos and videos. Just because the EVO has better specs does not mean it is a better device. Winner is iPhone here

OS

iPhone
the iPhone OS as always been the easiest and most stable. Yes, it is not custimizable, but it just works. Without bugs or freezing, it works. The home screen is easy to navigate around the device is speedy and very polished. The app store and itunes are also a plus but will be mentioned later.

EVO
Android is a well developed OS, but still not as smooth as IOS. However, it is ver very customizable. You can make your device look and function any way you want, and for alot of people that is a big plus. With widgets, and clocks and apps, you have 7 screens to make your phone look best for you.

Overall
Again, tie. You cannot argue which is better, but you can however voice your opinion and say which is best for you. iPhone is smooth, pretty, and polished, android is customizable, open, and growing.

Apps

iPhone
Their is no arguing that the iPhone's app store is the most impressive app market available. With over 200,000 games and apps, the iPhone is simply awesome. Their really is an app for just about anything. The games are also very nice and fun. I have played a full working version of nazi zombies on a mobile device (iPhone) with no lag and I find that extremely cool. Not to mention the apps and games are all polished and run smooth with no lag.

EVO
with over 40,000 apps and games the Android market is definetly growing, and everyone seems to throw the phrase "open market" around I really have not been impressed with the android market. Their are alot of popular apps and games on Android, but I have not found one app/game on android that has more functionality than an iPhone app. Their are widgets and tweaks for your device in the app market, but in terms of games it falls very short.

Overall
The iPhone is the clear winner simply because it has more apps/games. Not to mention developing for an iPhone is much easier. Think about it since 2007 their have been 4 iPhones out, 3 out of 4 have had almost the same hardware specs in the developers eye, same screen size resolution, buttons, everything. However the iPhone 4 will play everything fine. With android their are over 15 different devices, with different screen sizes resolutions, buttons, everything, things need to updated, things need to be tweaked to work on certain devices. It is confusing. also, in the app store their are no force closes.

support

iPhone
the iPhone has itunes which to some is a pain in the but, but to others very nice. You have music, video, and games all in one place available for you to buy. You have the same charger for your iPod for your phone. Everything works together

EVO
Nice HDMI output slot, kickstand is nice. However the device has a 4.3 in screen which is supposed to be for multi media use, and their is no central place or even tuturiol from HTC, Android, or sprint on how to get movies or videos on to the device which is a huge bummer.

Overall
the iPhone has a slight advantage here because of all the accesories, and itunes support. Android is gaining, but in terms of 3rd party support, and company support the iPhone wins again.

speed (network and device)

iPhone
AT&T seems to be the problem here, and when it comes to a phone you want a reliable network. I owned an iPhone for 3 weeks but had to return it (long story hah) but didn't really have any problems with ATT. But have friends who live within 2 minutes of me who don't recieve calls, get texts hours later, so ATT seems to fall short. And their 3G is supposed to be the fastest, but I have been with sprint for 5 years and have always had great speeds.
Device
The iPhone 4 is fast opening up core apps (tools, notes, SMS, Phone) open up right away, which is awesome, however 3rd part apps, seem to open up pretty quick but not as fast as the EVO's apps.

EVO
Sprint has 4G and it is fast, not to mention their 3G is very impressive too. I have never had a dropped call, or any other problems with Sprint. Their network may not be as large as verizon but is is very fast and stable. And people seem to complain about ATT more than sprint.

The EVO is very fast, and the 6 apps I use the most are the internet browser, sms, email, and market and those are all open because android keeps your last 6 apps open and running, so they open immediatelly. apps from the app market are very quick to open also. So the ghz processor is quicckkk.

Multitasking.

iPhone
Done very well and very polished, didn't find any complaints

Evo
Fast and easy, although apps are always "running" navigating through open apps on both device is very simple.

Overall on both Devices.

It really boils down to personal preference. do you want an open platform that offers customization and a growing app store, or a closed OS that is very stable and smooth, with more apps or games than anyone could imagine.
both devices have ups and downs.

IMO The EVO and the iPhone 4 are the most impressive devices on the market.
Enjoy

Very disappointed in your review. I came in hoping for an Android fan spergin' about how we're all idiots for liking anything but the EVO or Android.

Nice review.

I agree with your points. I tried an EVO for 1 week, and return it (and came back to AT&T) for the iPhone 4. I have used, palm, windows mobile, Blackberry, and iPhones, but it was my first android device. I found Android refreshingly open, yet still not a smooth GUI to navigate. The touch screen on the EVO applications page was hard to scroll without "selecting" an icon/program. Frequently things were selected in error. The speaker was loud, but tinny. The music also skipped when the unit was moved sometimes - no I didn't have "shake to shuffle" enabled.
I'm enjoying the new iPhone, but do wish it had a better speaker (like the bass rich stereo ones on the original Blackberry Bold.
