New Airplanes have both USB and AC ports so you can charge almost anything

Very nice. But I haven't seen those yet. They would be "new" airplanes. Nearly all of the existing airline stock has the older-style DC plugs. They will be changing over to the new ones only in phases. In the meantime . . . I would have to extend the battery life somehow. It would be nice if I could use my headphones at the same time at charging.

should i wait for the third generation?

hi, i am new here, so i apologize if this has been discussed. i am getting pretty anxious to purchase an ipod touch, but was wondering if i should wait it out for the third generation? are there any new leaks as to what might be upgraded?

thanks.

Theres several threads in this forum and others discussing possible things that may be added. Nothing for sure yet and they probably will be released in September.

There are no leaks to speak of. Yet Apple tends to only do things if they can (in their own opinion) do them better than anyone else is doing them. There is a good chance that a new Touch will fill anyone who buys a current model today with regret. You'll have in your hand the best pocket media player/pocket PC on the market, save for that new model.

Things they "might" improve:
- update to an AMOLED screen
- battery life, thanks in part to the new screen.
- Wifi/bluetooth capabilities. You'll get some with the 3.0 firmware, but improved hardware may be more capable.
- reduced weight, again thanks to the screen and lower battery demands.
- chromatic color choices. See Nano.
- a re-engineered dock connection/body. To support upcoming clip-on accessories.
- lower price. memory prices keep falling.

Nothing known. These are my personal predictions. If not this year, then next.

The question is really, "How long you are willing to wait, and how much you want an iPod Touch now?" If you really want one now, then I say get one, but if you really wanna wait for a software/hardware update, then wait.

Its your choice man. ;)

lol thats the dilemma man. i want one NOW, badly! but then im like, i don't want to be rash here and rush into buying this if a newer improved one is right around the corner.

that's why apple has been so successful, there's ALWAYS going to be a better generation... you can never win. I say go for it now, then sell it on craiglist.org or ebay before september. Get your use out of it now and get some money back to pay for the next gen.

I have the same problem. Welcome to the dilemma.

- The next gen touch will have an unibody - I'm pretty sure of that.
- I don't think that we can expect a camera. :(
- Maybe (I really hope for) we can expect a built-in microphone. That way we finally would use Skype.
- maybe maybe there will be smaller models. There are some rumors about that. Let's hope for.

The problem for me is the following. I currently have an iPod nano (1st gen) that has low battery life (max. 4-5 hours). But I really want an iPod with longer life for a vacation. But with the new iPod touch my accessories would'nt work anymore (Pocket Dock FW, FW charger). So I'd have to buy new ones. That really sucks.

So after all. I'm not sure whether I should do it or not. It's quite an amount of money I may could better use for my vacation rather than for some little fun. Maybe I should ask myself: How important is music on your vacation? How important are the cool new features that you would benefit from?

what is a unibody?

also, is it possible to play a song as the alarm on the current touch? that's a feature i really need (it helps me wake up) but im not sure if they have it.

That's a risk you are going to have to take, or you could just not get one at all.

If you can hold on to late September I'd say wait. The way I usually do it is if the iPod has been out for 6 months it's not worth it since one will be coming out with newer capabilities within 6 months. Right now you're looking at 3 1/2 to 4 months. I think this update will be sizeable enough that it will be worth it. Just my opinion.

My opinion as well. I likewise am waiting until September to get my first iPod touch. Hoping for GPS, but we'll see. Also want a capacity upgrade (64GB) as well as appropriate price drop. And there has to be something significant, seeing as it'll have been 12 months since the previous update.

I'll also speculate that many if not most of the features of the June/July iPhone will make it to the September iPod touch.

Fortunatly, I am not in the same dilema as some of you. :D

I am a proud owner of a 2G iPod Touch AND will be an even more proud owner of a 3rd Generation iPod Touch when it comes out.

Now you may be wondering, why on earth would I want a 2G and a 3rd Generation (I hate calling them the 3G ipod touch )?

Well, if you might have noticed from a different post I have made, in the "apps you regret buying" thread, I wrote that my mom has been playing Bejeweled2 on MY ipod touch. She has played/used my ipod touch more than I have. So I came to a decission which I think will make us all happy.
I'm going to let my mom keep my 2G, when I go out to buy the 3G (damnit...I did it:mad:).
Sure it's a hefty price to pay just so my mom can play Bejeweld in peace, but damnit, I want my ipod back!!

in the history of the ipod, has there ever been a year when they didn't either upgrade a line or introduce a new line? that would totally suck if this september, they were just like "nothing new for you guys this year. :)"

I'll also speculate that many if not most of the features of the June/July iPhone will make it to the September iPod touch.
interesting perspective. i guess it would behoove us to keep an eye out for that though i assume most people on this forum are already doing such, lol. though from my vantage point, aside from the technology used, im not so sure you can expect this. for one thing, one is a phone and the other is an ipod. there really isnt any benefit to apple from a profit perspective to add a camera onto an ipod.

How likely is it that we'll see a new touch in early June? Same time as we saw the iPhone updates last year.

I know there's an Apple event, damned if I can remember which one it is though..

No new Touch in June. A 64GB option is totally possible, however.

 this really sucks, i DESPERATLY want an ipod touch, i think they're lush. But i dunno if i should wait for the 3rd generation or save up for a bit and buy the 2nd generation now - bare in mind that i've got a nano 3rd gen already. help me!
also my birthdays in august, should i ask my money and save for a higher gig memory as well? :( im so confused.
REPLY BACK IF YOU HAVE ADVICE

That's what I did I bought the 1st gen for $300 a month before the 2nd gen came out. Now I'm stuck with no speakers and no Bluetooth and can't buy accesories for my first gen in stores. I have to buy online.
I'm not making that mistake ever again.
I'm wanted the 2nd gen but now that I see rumors and such I'm just waiting for the 3rd gen that might even cost only $200. Based on how the prices send down from the 1st gen to the second gen.

3rd generation ipod touch

I would want a CAMERA-PLZ,,, and i would want more battery life and i would be happy plus external speakers :D:apple::):D

Cameras, videocameras & GPS for all. At a price

Camera is very unlikely - it's only for the iPhone.

Here's a thought - every Touch and every iaphone will have he capability to have a camera, videocamera and also GPS

3 words:
External Accessories framework

Retrofittable accessories re the Touch and iPhone to give them new features.
Anyone heard from Gomite recently? ;)

The price?
The price of each sensor attachment and the wait for someone to make them.
