Hi!

So rumour has it that the new iPhone will have 256mb ram, I would guess then that the new iPod Touch will have that as well?

I also read about a faster processor for the new generation of iPhones (and thus for the iPod Touch?).

But what would that mean for Apps?
Right now all the Apps work on all the iPhone and iPod Touch versions, but if a new iPod Touch with double the Ram and more Mhz comes out, will there be apps that won't work on the old one anymore because it would be too slow?

Are the current Apps using the current iPod Touch to its full potential?

Or are the apps so far only using part of the iPod Touch's abilities?

What do you think?

likely specs are...

wireless N compatible !

A camera, hopefully over 3.0 megapixels

and not too likely 64 gigs

I want one! im waiting till september, when it is expected.

You guys have to realize that if the iPod touch is to great no one will buy an iPhone and get the touch and a cheap phone. It's gotta be balanced. I say thinner, no camera,no GPS, 64 gig, better in your hand, faster then the iPhone, more RAM, better battery life, fix the wifi black dot, better speaker, and one new feature. Won't guess on that but most likely it will come from the new iPhone launching sometime soon.

I REALLY hope that the new Touch comes out in July rather than September. I know most of you think September, but I am trying to avoid buying an iPhone and a new Touch in July is my best chance (which is probably one of the reasons why they won't release the new Touch till September). :)

This wont happedn because:
1. Would steal some of the iPhones thunder.
2. Apple releases in Septmber so they have a fresh device for the holiday season.

Idea!

Put a lid in the back of the ipod touch where the apple logo is that can be taken off
and apple separetly could sell lenses to put in there and put them on and off easily

So the ipod doesn't become so thick but a good quality camera is added

Or even sell it lenses and ipod together

What do you guys think

Please reply

For the new iPod Touch I can see...
-a microphone
-a GPS chip
-a camera with video recording (probably the same camera resolution as the 3rd generation iPhone)
-16GB, 32GB models (maybe 64GB)
-OLED (probably not, though)
-$249 for 16GB, $349 for 32GB, $499 for 64GB

I think Apple has changed their plan with the iPod Touch. When it was first released it lacked so many features that were in the iPhone. But by the time the 2nd generation iPod Touch came out, it had all the features (allowed by the hardware) that existed on the iPhone. I think Apple is trying to make the iPod Touch as close to an iPhone without SMS, MMS, phone features, and a cellular connection as possible.

Oh it BETTER have more memory. 32 Gig is an appalling level in this day and age, especially for a premium device. Flash memory is no longer new and rare so ramp it up! Hell, the flash industry is releasing a 512 drive this year! The Touch should have AT LEAST 64 if not 80. 128 for the premium device. I'd prefer 256, but I'll settle half way because I'm nice. Apple doesn't have a conscience if they keep selling an 8 gig Touch at more than $99.

Oh and a better battery! The battery life is terrible.

Don't care about a camera. It might be useful for some apps though.

GPS would be cool.

I am excited about a larger touch device! That will be the perfect internet toy for the couch, bed and bathtub.

Give me a break, no one wants to use a crap phone given the chance. They are two different markets and the memory level on the iphone is such garbage you have to get a Touch anyway. If the iphone fixed a few key flaws like the carrier and the reception, I'd probably get both without batting an eye.

?

I certainly hope the specs keep improving and at a pace not lagging so much behind technology.

I think they've only scratched the surface of the potential for the device. Keys to advancing the tech are making it more powerful than necessary (creative people will find a way to make richer apps) and adding a lot more memory capacity as the current levels are very poor for all the things the Touch is capable and expected to do.

It was always apparent to me this was the 21st Century iteration of the Newton and in many ways it has far surpassed it but in many ways it is not there yet. The Newton failed not because it wasn't innovative, but because it cost too much, was too big and it just couldn't compete with the Palm and it's tremendous community. Now it seems the roles are reversed. Will Apple learn from Palm's mistake of resting on their laurels and stagnating on their technology?

It will also be interesting to see how the Palm Pre fares. Palm is on a do or die mission and they do have the experience of how to build a massive App community. The device looks stunning and it will already run all of the previous Palm Apps. Will they learn from their own mistakes and Apple's successes?

Apple incentive

I believe the new iPod touch will not come out until after September. It has been announced that you get a free iPod touch with the purchase of a new mac until september.

This happens every year... You get a free iPod with the Back to School promotion, then new iPods come out in September. The new iPods are not available to those taking advantage of the promotion.

It's sounding more and more likely it will have some sort of camera on it somewhere. I don't really care since I won't be getting one, but I think they'll make a big deal out of this. People don't need camera's on their iPods, but they would most certainly use them if they had them.

And as for the comment about iPod Touch killing the iPhone sales, I think that's valid. I can see people having enough on one device like the Touch that they wouldn't need the iPhone. For me personally, I don't use my phone much anymore. I used it at school for call home and text, but I definitely don't use all of my minutes. I'd rather get a more full featured Touch with a prepaid phone then get an iPhone. Keep in mind I have internet on campus at all times so I use that to communicate a lot.

I would like to see a haptic touch

I have no experience with haptic technology never tried out a device but it seems like it will take away the issue of crappy game controls. Typing would still suck though I think.

My little brother's moto Rokr has killer haptic feedback. I thought I was pressing buttons (seriously, no joke) until I turned it off and felt that the buttons didn't really depress.

Wow, this thread has grown quite a bit! :)

I'm very curious to see how the iPT will be upgraded at the end of summer. A camera would be nice, maybe it'll happen.

One thing I would really like would be to be able to watch streaming movies from my Netflix account on the iPT. We can use youtube -- I don't see why they should limit our access to streaming (whether it be netflix, hulu, etc.)

Someone mentioned making the iPT customizable. A 'build-your-own' iPod touch would be amazing, but I can only imagine how expensive Apple would make it. Good idea, though!

hmmm last year something came out that Apple got a license from Immersion. So haptic feedback is possible.

I don't know about build your own ipod but I would certainly like to customize my icons and stuff.

I would also like to see bluetooth file transfer.

What do you recommend me ... I want to buy an iPod touch, but the 3rd geen will be released soon (September, according to many poeple here).

Is this worth trouble to wait until September for the 3rd gen or the 2nd gen is almost the same thing as the 3rd ?

I'm a French so ..Sorry if you do not understand me :p

I have the New 16GB iTouch 2nd Gen, it is great the only thing that bugs me about this and Apple is if you say it is a 16GB model, then make sure there is more then 14.1 GB Free, I had the 8GB model and thought something was wrong because it only registered 7.1 GB Free, but I upgraded only to find out I lost more space on the 16GB unit, and at $299 they are not cheap.

That's because of formatted capacity and the preloaded software the Iphone OS

I'm Pretty sure that's the case

FAKE!
an mp3 player would not ever have 3G, thats a cellular network frequency and why would an mp3 player make phone calls??!?
i can see a GPS in it but no way theres 3G unless its the new iPhone, definetly fake,
and besides that pictures is not the way apple would make theres and, besides now is not the time they would even begin starting to make advertisements like those

it means 3rd generation not 3G cellular network
