In addition to the price changes, id like bluetooth, a camera, possibly gps, and more memory

The most I can see them doing really, is adding GPS. If they added a camera also, the iPhone might be seen by some as less and less desirable.

I have the New 16GB iTouch 2nd Gen, it is great the only thing that bugs me about this and Apple is if you say it is a 16GB model, then make sure there is more then 14.1 GB Free, I had the 8GB model and thought something was wrong because it only registered 7.1 GB Free, but I upgraded only to find out I lost more space on the 16GB unit, and at $299 they are not cheap. :eek:
:eek::eek::eek::rolleyes:

actual capacity vs. advertised capacity

A rather pedestrian washing list of requested features but;

At least 32gb storage, though 64gb would be my preferred amount.
FM Radio.
OLED display.
Wireless sync. Maybe not for large files but certainly contacts, photos.
Additional front facing camera and video iChat.
Longer battery life.

It's sounding more and more likely that there will be a camera for the iPod Touch. I think I'll put a check next to that one. Not sure there will be video though.

You'll see a memory bump, 32GB to 64GB, the 8GB will be gone.

Faster processor, similar to what the iPhone might get.

I'd like to see an OLED screen. I'm not sure on this. This would help battery life a lot, but I'm not sure how much more expensive it would make the device to produce. If the iPhone gets one, then there will be one for the iPod Touch.

I doubt there's an FM Radio or GPS. Apple may see FM Radio as unnecessary. GPS will come at some point, but not this time around I think.

The 2G already has a bluetooth chip so that will be in 3G also no doubt.

I don't see a front facing camera, at least this time around.

And the wireless sync isn't going to happen because it kills battery life.

One thing I would like to see, which we probably won't see this year is getting something similar to what the Pre has for charging. You just put it on top of the charger. That'd be cool.

Sarcasm doesn't work too well online

I don't want a Camera, it's pretty pointless... Microphone, GPS, OLED, that's bout it.

I So Wish That

Thats an awsome list I totally agree oled would help battery life, GPS would give you Turn by turn and microphone will let you voice record and use apps like shazam and ocarina

I mean just think about it, why would a MP3 player need a camera?

By that same token, why would an MP3 player need a GPS...

It's not really just an MP3 player anymore. It's a media player, an internet communicator, and a gaming device. It's all purpose, that's why the camera fits.

What about colors?

I feel that by the third generation, basic black will give way to more color choices. Definitely a possible "upgrade"... if you want to call it that. :apple:

I mean just think about it, why would a cell phone need a camera?

The fact is, MP3 players and cell phones are quickly becoming multimedia devices. Adding a camera to the iPt is just the next step in its evolution.

The first gen is actually thinner than the current one.

iPod touch?

No, no it's not.

And, since I bought my 2G four days ago and have given my 1G to my wife, I have sat here with one in either hand and the 2G is noticeably thinner in every area except the back/centre, which is where it's almost exactly the same size.

However, around the top, bottom, left, and right sides it's a lot thinner than the 1G due to the curved/tapered edges.

What do you recommend me ... I want to buy an iPod touch, but the 3rd geen will be released soon (September, according to many poeple here).

Is this worth trouble to wait until September for the 3rd gen or the 2nd gen is almost the same thing as the 3rd ?

I'm a French so ..Sorry if you do not understand me :p

I got my 2G iPod touch four days ago now, and I'm absolutely loving the upgrade. My wife is also happy because he has been given my 1G model, a result of which has seen her become addicted to the App Store.

Anyway, September is some three months way, considering that we've got all of June to work our way through (June, July, August). I didn't need to pay for my 2G because my family chipped in with Apple Store gift cards for my 30th last week, which covered the cost of the 8GB model.

Aside from the volume rocker switch and the internal speaker, I love the new look which to the untrained eye looks 99% identical to the iPhone due to the chrome bezel around the screen.

Sitting the 2G beside the 1G the 1G looks a little ... bland, and you can tell it was a prototype for the Multi-Touch-Interface iPod device, with the 2G refining the design further.

As for the 3G (third generation, not 3G as in internet), I don't see any major changes to the design other than perhaps a larger capacity and maybe a camera. Some have said Apple could go for the brushed Aluminum, along the lines of the first iPhone, for the rear of the next iPod touch, but I cannot see Apple moving away from the traditional "scratchy chrome" backing which has become synonymous with the iPod brand.

As someone has said in another thread regarding the iPod touch, when it comes to any product you want, if you continually wait for the next model you'll never buy and own anything. Yes, it's nice to have the latest and greatest device, but right now I'll enjoy owning the latest and greatest iPod touch, even if it's only that for three months.

After that, who knows? I used my 1G happily for 9 months after the 2G launched and provided my 2G doesn't make the leap for freedom from my suit jacket pocket (a trick my 1G mastered), I don't see me upgrading anytime soon .... especially for a camera.

I do think apple with change the look on the 3rd gen ipod otuch. Some people would buy the ipod touch just if its looks changed and not much new functions were added. As for being the hottest selling mp3 player for the 2008 holiday season I really dont think apple will keep an old design. I mean the nano has changed 4 times in 4 years so why not the touch?

iPod touch?

No, no it's not.

I have both generations as well, in 32gb.

The curved edge of the 2G will give you a percieved thinness especially the edges. But on specs, the 2G IS the thicker sibbling:

1g Ipod Touch : * Dimensions (H x W x D)
* 110 x 61.8 x 8 mm

2g Ipod Touch : * Dimensions (H x W x D)
* 110 x 61.8 x 8.5 mm

At it's thickest point there's a different of 0.5mm ... fair enough, on paper the 2G is "thicker", but can you honestly feel the difference of 0.5mm in your hand?

And, as we both said, at certain points the 2G is thinner, especially at the units edges, so overall the 2G is smaller than the 1G, since there's less case to fit the technology into given how the back is curved.

:rolleyes:

We were discussing about the thickness, NOT on which utilizes lesser case mass.

Can you honestly feel the difference of the lesser case in your hand? :p

The actual size of the backplate may be smaller as a result but technically, due to it's physical specifications, it's 0.5mm thicker then the first gen, and nothing can change that no matter how many excuses you try and make.

As the above poster said, end of story.

I mean just think about it, why would a MP3 player need a camera?

Why does a Phone need a camera?
For one thing the touch is much much more than an mp3 player. Heck the preferred compressed audio format for the touch or any ipod is not even Mp3.

Why does an "mp3 player need a web browser? or applications of any kind?
The touch is what ever you want it to be even a communications device when you run skype.

Bluetooth is already in the current touch and will be enabled in the next firmware (3.0) version. allowing for wireless sync (hopefully) as well as connection to Bluetooth GPS units.

A next gen touch should have a camera. more speed more internal memory, faster wifi (80211-a or dual band N) would be nice but unlikely. If they add a radio I hope they add HD radio. It is a very small receiver chip. Adding gps would be smart too.

I hope anything of those (espacially gps) except camera and radio
