I don't know what I can say that's not already been said. Seemed pretty sudden, seeing as we've only heard about it today :(

BBC's site is showing a massive 75% increase from regular traffic. I'm guessing it'll be even more when people from the UK who are asleep right now find out.

Let the canonisation of St. Michael begin...

He was a singer, end of.

It's sad but it happens.

Who said it was canonization? You act is if a musician isn't deserving of this attention. Art is the only thing that lasts in this world. There have been many times in my life where music has helped me get through the day and I've had a lot of happy memories where his music was being played. He and The Beatles have had the most influence on music in the last forty years of music. When MTV was only playing videos from Caucasians in the 80s, he was the first African-American artist to break through that barrier. His music from the Jackson 5 is still being played in commercials. Just the posting on this thread and the news coverage should let you know how important of a figure he was.

There's no need or reason to make the simplistic comment as you've just made.

It is very saddening what has happened. I grew up listening to him as a ton of other people. R.I.P. Michael Jackson, King of Pop.

I think he'll be remembered as much for the side show his private life was as the incredible music talent he was. He does have the top 2 selling albums of all time.

It should not be too much of a surprise considering how many prescriptions and other drugs he was addicted to.

Am I sad for his loss? nope.. he was a disgusting pervert and we all know it. At least we know our children are once again safe.

There's a family spokesman ("Brian Oxman") on CNN now, he's at the hospital with the family. He won't confirm or deny anything, but he slipped a couple of times and kept talking about MJ in past tense.

He also mentioned something about having warned about the medication MJ was taking due to some injury he sustained while falling on stage when rehearsing for the farewell tour...

Blah blah.

I hated his music for the most part, and I really couldn't care less about his life and troubles, but to suggest he'll be remember a millennia from now is errant rubbish.

As I said, he was a singer, he didn't cure diseases, he didn't save the world (although he cynically hi-jacked that cause) he sang songs, some people liked them.

Perspective is a bitch isn't it?

OK, it just went from official to super official: CNN confirms with LA coroner that MJ is, in fact, dead.

I think he exhausted whatever was left of his body trying to get in shape for the farewell tour. TMZ said that he couldn't manage the entire show during rehearsals and that they had brought in Lou "Hulk" Ferrigno (of all people) to get him in shape.
