What a sad day. I am by no means a fan of MJ, especially in his later years but I did enjoy his songs and recognized him as THE pop icon of the era. RIP MJ may whatever lies after death bring you peace and solace. :(

Everyone dies no matter how famous, rich, powerful you are. It's a humbling truth.

Whoever plays MJ in the blockbuster movie, will become an instant super star like Jennifer Lopez did.

This is a really sad day. I am completely speechless. I still can't take it in :(

RIP MICHAEL JACKSON

1958-2009

You will never be forgotten

Ha! Just posted this in music. Should have guessed it'd be here. People treat him more as a spectacle than a musician. Kind of speaks for himself.

RIP Michael Jackson
although i was born in 1991 i have always been and will always will be a fan of your music. I remember listening to his music on my walkman.

I wasn't a big fan of MJ, but RIP Micheal Jackson.
I was really surprised by this because it must have happened as I was leaving from work and I didn't get the memo until I started watching World News when I got home. I was like, "this is a joke, right?". Damn.

To anyone under 35 years old who thinks Michael Jackson's music was lame, you should be sure to at least checkout Michael's earlier stuff before making up your mind. Michael Jackson has basically two phases, the period of the Bad album and after, and the period before the Bad album. IMO, the Bad album and everything he made after that are all soulless silliness. But his earlier albums are super funky and groovy. If you're gonna check out only one album from his earlier phase to make up your opinion for sure, then check out his album called Off The Wall. If you have a negative opinion of his music and you haven't listen to Off The Wall, then you're making an uninformed decision.

Yup. Especially kings.

King of rock: Dead at 42.
King of pop: Dead at 50.
Louis XVI: Dead at 39.

Among king musicians, B.B. King is still with us, at age 83. I've been to one of his concerts, but never went to a Michael Jackson concert. The ticket prices weren't in my range.

I actually thought Dangerous was his last good album. Everything after that wasn't so great but I still rooted for him.

Always the King of Pop. He's basically the standard for solo R&B/Pop performers. Some have tried but none will come close.

He's really one of the last music superstars who transcended all barriers and you could literally see almost any kind of person in his concert crowds. It's insane...even looking at the people who are/were outside the hospital today.

I'm still saddened by this.

Well said.

Off the Wall and Thriller are two fantastic albums.

The Thriller music video is like no other.

This displays his influence much better than words. This diagram shows just a few of his songs and the songs that sampled/were inspired by them.
