I'm sure at least half the price of the unit is in that screen. A massively high resolution 28" display using a nonstandard aspect ratio with pen input and multitouch capabilities wouldn't be cheap for MS to produce, and thus won't be cheap to buy.

Ok, point taken. I'd only scanned the announcement and missed the part about the screen. That explains it, of course.

Yet, I'm not convinced this is gonna sell well. Touch screens/PCs still haven't become widely accepted...for a reason.

I for one wouldn't wanna sit in front of 28'' at arm length.

Surface studio video is awesome! Unfortunately it is patented by Apple.

Not the same thing.
The claims in this patent are nothing like the Surface Studio.
Read the claims... not the pictures. ;)

All who? All 6 people who've purchased a Surface through its various failed iterations and not returned it?

I've always found it interesting over the years, my connections in retail particularly Best Buy, but others too, have been telling me for a while now: most returned product - Surface.
I am the 7th and I am very pleased with my purchase. And I even know user number 8 and 9 and 10 at least.

I can't think of a thing that Apple would find interesting or necessary to respond to in those products. Let's not forget who is chasing who in this market.

According to which metric?
If you're going by user base of their OS and software then Apple is so far down the ladder they smell sulfur and feel the heat from the infernal fire... If you go by the hipster cool factor then yes Apple is way ahead...

Yeah!!!!!!!
And that's sooooooooo gimmicky!
Lol, a context sensitive touch responsive menu bar w/ built in biometric security... who wants or needs it??!!

Except that Lenovo did it two years ago on their Thinkpads and it sucked. I expect Apple's implementation to be much better but most Thinkpad users hated the entire concept, myself included.

Pretty impressive looking for a windows desktop, it's priced based on it being aimed at a niche market though and not mainstream. I like that they have taken tech from the desk size surfaces and added it to these with the dial thingy.

Apple`s doing a great job, those of us that use $1K + hardware are all flocking to overpriced, under performing hardware, time to wake up and get out "your armchair"....

Q-6
Underperforming. That's a laugh. We crossed a threshold several years ago where most tasks don't need to or simply can't be any "faster" by throwing hardware or software at it. The things we're left to still improve are things like rendering speed for video content, and a short list of others.

I work off of a 2014 5K iMac, do lots of video work, photo work, web work, etc. etc. etc. This machine is plenty fast for my jobs, forever. Maybe in 2020 I'll finally be motivated to upgrade if there is a significant reason to.

I still remember the phrases from Tim Cook:

"Only Apple can do this, you'll see this only from Apple. No other company is able to make these kind of innovations. No other company is able to integrate their hard- and software the way we do"

Please mr Cook, have a look in your pipeline because things got stuck the last 5 years. If Apple is out of idea's let them have a look around. There are plenty of companies showing you how to do it.

I finally switched over to Windows 10 from 7 after a lot of hesitation and I think it's by far the OS I've ever used. And I'm on my Mac every day.

It seems to be hit-or-miss. I loved it for awhile but I seem to be dealing with errors constantly now along with having a mandatory update every-other-friggin-day.

According to Macrumours, this is utter ****.. Skylake in late 2016? Hahahahaha
Absolutely! MacRumors posters have been going on-and-on-and-on about Apple having to release next MacBook Pro with a non-existent Kaby Lake processor but you are the first to call it out on this MS release = Sky Lake, people! Seriously, folks, I read one complaint after tomorrows announcement about Apple selling 1 year old hardware at a premium price and I am really going to throw a hissy fit.

I might as well get it out of my system because the trolls will be on it. Oh, wait, they already are...

The functionality of the Studio is impressive. It's like iMac & iPad Pro had a love child... That ran Windows.

And kudos to MS taking a page out of Apple's book and (potentially) stealing Apple's thunder. Seriously, we'll done.

Apple, we're all ears.
Tim Cook: "um...we got mbp....yeah..with usb c connector...so...and yeah..we got apple t.v app."

This is a great looking computer. The monitor is fantastic. But who is this computer really for? It's not for your typical PC user. It's not for gamers. It's supposedly marketed toward iMac users but those are consumers for the most part and this is a professional work station? Yet it's pretty limited in terms of hardware for a professional workstation. While it can play 4k, the graphics cards it uses only support hardware decoding of 1080p, so you're not going to get optimal 4k performance which means, you probably really don't want to use it for editing or compositing 4k video. You would need hardware decoder / encoder which you can't install because there is no place to put them. What about 3d? Can you sculpt and paint in 3d on it with the graphics cards it comes with? GeForce 960M or 980M... They are mobile graphics cards for laptops, not workstations... Anyways, this thing is targeting graphics pros but it's not really workstation caliber. It's got style... It's got workstation level costs... But it's not a workstation... It's not portable like a MacBookPro... It's way more expensive than an iMac... While it has a beautiful touch screen, touch screens on PC's or laptops are really nothing more than a gimmick, you're not going to be productive with a touch screen, in fact I would argue that a touch screen computer is horrible UX because you're constantly getting in your own way every time you lift to touch the screen, you're blocking half of the monitor (laptops). As for drawing, I don't know about you guys, but when I draw on my tablet or when I draw on paper, I'm constantly turning the tablet or paper so that I can get the perfect angle for my arm and what I'm working on. I don't think that would be possible with this... The Surface Wheel? These things have been around for a long time, google 3dconnexion, these have x,y,z axis, they do the same thing as the Surface Wheel but you don't put them on the display. Griffin also made a wired and wireless wheel you could get for jog / shuttle functionality. So in my opinion, this is an overpriced, underpowered workstation that looks fantastic... For the same money, $4,200 (because the lower models are definitely not workstation caliber) you can do much better... You can build a way better PC and buy a Lenovo Yoga Home. Or you could buy an iMac and an iPad Pro... Or you could buy a fully tricked out MBP and still have money left over to go on vacation... So while this is a great looking computer, IMHO there is a very, very small niche for it. I'm sure there will be a lot of companies that also buy them for their receptionist because they look cool. Don't forget, with Windows (even 10) come blue screen errors... My Surface tablet gets them all the time, so I only use it for testing now.

Your jobs aren't graphic intensive then. Because my iMac often chokes on the things I throw at it.
