The Surface Studio is one gorgeous computer, its very apple like in its elegant lines and function. My iMac with the giant bezels and large chin feels so old and outdated.

Microsoft is swinging for the fences and its shows, where as I feel Apple is complacent - I hope at least I'm wrong and tomorrow's event will surprise me

In terms of UX, would professionals prefer a non-portable, large screen "iPad Pro" with Apple Pencil, or a high spec Mac (or iMac) with stylus?

As much as I hate Microsoft, I might just end up buying a new Surface Studio (depending on what Apple introduces tomorrow). I live and die by the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of products and my Macs are just too underpowered anymore to be efficient.

It seems to be hit-or-miss. I loved it for awhile but I seem to be dealing with errors constantly now along with having a mandatory update every-other-friggin-day.

This is my experience. I got Windows 10 and it was terrible, than great, then there are little things that annoy me. Same thing with my macs, though. ;)

Using apps I don't think about it, I'm lost in work. But I like the Finder so much better than Windows Explorer.

Am I going crazy, or am I actually seeing people at an Apple forum complaining about price???
Pretty good indicator something IS overpriced... It's not just price, but power... It's over priced and under powered. It's a sharp display that tries to fake you into thinking it's a workstation but it's just a really expensive computer for mom and dad.

That's why you do not browse the internet with elevated privileges, do not install Flash, you do install a good adblocker, disable scripts everywhere and don't make exceptions.

On a Mac, PC or Ford Pinto.

Come for the 16 hour battery life, stay for the added safety :)

Doesn't matter how much protection you have when the dumb customer opens an email .doc attachment which contained an encrypted dll which was executed via windows and 6 hours later every file was encrypted. Fully patched windows 10, Sophos antivirus, ad blockers galore, no flash, no java, no local admin rights. Just a dumb user and some zero day exploit, also sophos is ****. Lucky he didn't have network share permissions and had an offline backup. Lucky we don't have guns in the UK or I would have just put them down.

Your jobs aren't graphic intensive then. Because my iMac often chokes on the things I throw at it.
This... my wife is a professional photographer.
I switched her to Macs about 10 years ago. She can induce the spinning beach ball from hell with one Lightroom session.

Well Interesting. I might keep my MBP 15 and purchase a studio.
90% of my work is run on the windows side of the boot camp.

The surface has been on my radar. Now I am homing in for a closer look.

Same here. I'm curious to test its potential. Unless something can draw me at the Mac event tomorrow, which I may or may not purchase if the changes are not significant enough. But talk about pressure one day before the Keynote on Apple.

BitDefender with anti-encrypt protection works wonders.

so this is a big deal for apple they basically cam out and said hey we can make a all in one better than you and by the way you're macbook pro is expensive and weak... the Surface book has a higher resolution screen better battery life and they found a way to put a very capable gtx 965m Maxwell gpu in a tablet! it doesnt have a full quad core CPU but at 2399 you get a i7 16gb ram 2gb gtx 965m and 256gb SSD the bar has been set if apple comes out with a weak macbook that costs more its going to get even harder for them... and they cant blame battery life for their poor gpu performance any more its their fault they chose the cheaper weaker AMD over Nvidia's new Maxwell tech. Tom will be very interesting for Apple.

Can't innovate my ass.

But seriously, Microsoft continues to make excellent hardware. Software improvement is slower, but it's coming along.

Every Apple fan should applaud this because it is good for the ecosystem to get such amazing competition.

I agree. Anyone talking smack on this is not giving credit where it is due. The studio looks pretty amazing.

That Sudio presentation sounded really familiar, screen floating in air and so on ;)
14 years ago we had this:

Indeed, still for mine the epitome of design. Right down to the fact that when they shipped the 20" model, they had to add weight to the base in order for it to hold up the screen - that sacrifice for the sake of design is something Apple has long since lost, with the slimming binge they've been on ever since.

Very, very cool ad and product in this Surface Studio. Crazy price, but if they made that base upgradeable, even fully swappable, that screen looks fantastic and would be a great investment. The way of the future even. I think we can be fairly sure that whatever Macs come when you guys finally get to the 27th, hurry up it is already 9 hours old, it will not have touch, and that is just bizarre to me when looking at this Surface lineup. On the positive, it should run Windows ;)

As I mentioned, not opening attachments which can execute code is rule #1.
Otherwise, things can (and by definition of execute will) happen which can be good or... bad.

That's not in anyway Windows-specific, except that clueless users do tend to own a $300 PC.

Their problem, though, not mine or yours.

Uh no, the base model 5K iMac is $2300. The most expensive [comparable] 5k iMac is $3400 with an inferior GPU. If the 5K iMac was a touch display, it would be a lot more.

$2299 is the high-end standard config. Add $600 for the 32 GB RAM and $250 for the better GPU. That gets you to $3149. Do you really think a touch screen that isn't pressure sensitive is going to add another $900 to the price? No way. If that were true, then MS is guaranteed to be losing money on a pressure-sensitive touch screen the size of the Surface Studio.

Microsoft copying Apple again.
That maybe true in the past but you've to give microsoft credit where credit is due. As a software company they're showing Apple how things are built these days in their own style. Wish Apple opened up OS X to other computer makers now they've lost interest in computers. Would be great to have a surface studio with OS X.

I hope Ive takes some clues from what's coming out today. He's probably too busy with the curtains on Apple Campus 2.

Seems that the philosophy of #anti-sec has started to come down over the years. Oh silly me Windows is still garbage. You know the saying "You can sugar coat **** all day, in the end it's still ****"....
