Come on, give credit where credit is due. Microsoft is still an innovative company and this shows it. We all know what Apple is going to announce tomorrow, it's been leaked for months, nobody saw this coming from Microsoft so at least Microsoft has FAR better control over their R&D.

I know Microsoft still has a lot of brand reputation problems created by Steve Ballmer, but most of you don't even realize that Microsoft's stock is near an all time high and profitability in the company has been way up over the last few years while Apple has had lowest sales since 2001.

Nadella just spanked Cook soundly by showing the world what an innovative company looks like. Tim Cook might say that the future is augmented reality but Microsoft just released a bunch of tools and products that offer consumers AR and VR solutions, including a phone that can be used as a 3D scanner. Hell the new Paint 3D in Windows 10 can be used for 3D printing. Any "creative" type thinking that an old 10 year old looking MacBook with a stupid touchbar on the top of the keyboard is what they need to help them do their job better is really in for a huge disappointment after today.

Apple's brand is dying under Tim Cook, Microsoft's brand is being raised from the ashes by Nadella.

At the end of the day, Satya Nadella is the CEO Apple wished they had.

As someone with more apples in the signature than in my pantry, I completely agree with you. You are 100% right. Now, we have to give Apple the benefit of the doubt and wait for tomorrow's announcements. They might have something that we don't know. But Apple has 24 hours to show for it. Yesterday's numbers clearly show it (16% revenue in service? That's pathetic) and Nadella's blow today just confirms it. Tomorrow is Apple's day to come back.

I would like to add that it was a diss coming from Microsoft. Why one day before the Apple keynote?

EDIT: NVM what i said.

Because MS world doesn't revolve around Apple's schedule you know?

I believe that today's keynote has been scheduled two months ago. Apple's invites went out last week. Can't blame Microsoft on this one.

All who? All 6 people who've purchased a Surface through its various failed iterations and not returned it?

Wow, well you better tell the FTC cause they just finished financial reporting and they claim they are selling well and making a hefty profit. But I am sure you already know that as you are obviously an expert this topic.

Totally agree with you. I'm not buying the :apple: but I'm buying design AND substance.

:apple: Of today stands for aging overpriced technology in a boring same old same old design.

O dear apple. It's not looking good for them. That top touch bar seems really poor now. They are really not cutting edge tec these days.It really feels like Apple has peaked. Feeling iSad.

Microsoft has really stepped up its design and innovation game. Surface pro, book, and that studio thingy, wow. But regardless of their great design they still have a flawed operating system. For example, the surface is a great product, but has e.g. scaling issues and is not bright enough (at least for me). The surface book has similar issues. The windows tablet experince is terrible compared to the ipad. The ipad, however, lacks the needed filesystem so be of any other real use than media consumption and internet stuff. If microsoft is putting similar effort into its operating system than it is putting on their design, then it might become interesting. But we have in the past seen microsoft ruining great devices with bad software, such as the microsoft lumia 950 & 950xl. So I say wow, but meh.

That's one way of looking at it.

Another way is that Microsoft saw the opportunity to show us what can be done with something similar to what Apple patented, and then went ahead and did it.

A device like the Studio has real-world benefits:

An integrated creative/artist workstation that runs the world's #1 OS (i.e. compatible as all hell).

An iMac that can do everything that the iPad Pro can would be a compelling product from Apple. Microsoft did it for them.

Shots fired.

Apple sees no value in integrating iOS and macOS. This here is how you do it.

They need to quit frakking around and get to it.

I think time in the real world will tell. People were excited about Surface Book last year but that turned out to be a dud. Like I said in my earlier post, if Surface Studio takes off, I'm sure Apple will revisit this idea.

Actually Microsoft sent invitations out a few weeks ago, Apple sent theirs last week... I think you know who has followed who.
Meh rejoice in some nice new computer hardware releases for once, a distraction for all the tablet and phone news.

Sounds to me that the issue is with the Logitech mouse driver.

I have never installed a Logitech mouse driver, as I have never installed a grapics driver on the Mac.
BTW the Apple mice ( magic ) or the Apple trackpad are even worse in scrolling stacks of images.

According to which metric?
If you're going by user base of their OS and software then Apple is so far down the ladder they smell sulfur and feel the heat from the infernal fire... If you go by the hipster cool factor then yes Apple is way ahead...

Ah yes, the huge number of people who buy any piece of craptastic PC's running Windows. Truly a discerning segment of the market. It seems to me that Apple has been driving design and function more often than it's competitors. Plus Microsoft, until recently showed no interest in hardware design. They previously scoffed at the idea of the Apple model of integrated hardware and software but Microsoft is indeed aping that strategy now. In that respect Microsoft is chasing Apple.

I don't for one second think that Apple is finished innovating it's Mac hardware although it may choose to leave certain segments of the market.

Wait a few months, they saw their opportunity with the outdated iMacs and rushed this product to market. It will start to spontaneously combust soon…

It's available for purchase by anyone. I got mine free with an MSDN subscription.
Yes because every user out there is willing toy pay for an Enterprise edition, or has a MSDN sub.
BTW, care to provide a link for someone like myself to buy Windows 10 Enterprise?

That's the first MS machine that made me think of getting a PC. As a designer, the Surface Studio looks amazing.

Only if Apple let us use full Adobe products on the iPad Pro, I'd be all over it.

Payback for all those Mac v PC ads :)

When did Microsoft announce the keynote? I doubt even Microsoft expected Apple to actually to update thier computers. I suspect Microsoft called the event first

Same here. Dunno what's up with that. Maybe it'll be an option by the time it's released.

Sorry bout the kool aid comment earlier. went back and re-read and it was mis applied.

as for no 10xx's series in this, sounds like the R&D likely started months ago, if not longer, and they stayed focused on what their original design and parts were. The mobile versions of the 10 series was only announced around 2 months or less ago (would have to look it up). And while we have some manufacturers starting to release laptosp with them, could just be that Microsoft didn't want to change the internals till they got it out the door first.

Likely we'll see a refresh in 6 months or a year that bring us up to Kaby Lake and 10 series GPU's. and Maybe even a price reduction as costs come down
