Find 10 people that have owned a touch-screen Windows 10 laptop, tablet, or PC for more than a month if they would be willing to go back to a non-touch enabled device. It is not only useful, it changes the way some of us work and we will never go back.

Who said anything about touch screens? I was talking about SurfaceBook.

Also, many Mac users would argue that a touchscreen isn't necessary on Mac laptops because the trackpads work so well, unlike on Windows laptops, and they would have a point.

Personally, I like hybrids, but Surface Book is a pretty bad implementation of that all around.

I keep reaching up to touch my non-touch devices only to have to remind myself they're not touch.

Lets see how the usage reviews are - much like everyone slobbering over the Surface Book until they actually used it and discovered that hinge was an abomination.

You are a little behind. The Surface Book is actually selling well for a high-end device and Surface related revenue is pretty respectable, and more importantly, still growing year-over-year.

Actually Microsoft sent invitations out a few weeks ago, Apple sent theirs last week... I think you know who has followed who.
Meh rejoice in some nice new computer hardware releases for once, a distraction for all the tablet and phone news.

Just making a guess here but wasn't Apple's earnings call already set for somewhere in this week? If I remember correctly it was already planned for this week but they moved it up to make room for tomorrows keynote.

To me it seemed that Microsoft wanted to take advantage of Apple's projected lower revenue.

Yes because every user out there is willing toy pay for an Enterprise edition, or has a MSDN sub.
BTW, care to provide a link for someone like myself to buy Windows 10 Enterprise?

I thought it was a free download from your friendly torrent provider ;)

It looks like a decent product, especially the screen and the pen. The thing I don't like is that they're charging $3k for only 8GB RAM, 1TB drive, which I assume is something like Seagate's hybrid, and a somewhat outdated GPU. Would have preferred 16GB RAM with a 512GB SSD, and a Pascal GPU instead. But again, it's a decent product, and definitely competes with the likes of an iMac.

Come on, give credit where credit is due. Microsoft is still an innovative company and this shows it. We all know what Apple is going to announce tomorrow, it's been leaked for months, nobody saw this coming from Microsoft so at least Microsoft has FAR better control over their R&D.

I know Microsoft still has a lot of brand reputation problems created by Steve Ballmer, but most of you don't even realize that Microsoft's stock is near an all time high and profitability in the company has been way up over the last few years while Apple has had lowest sales since 2001.

Nadella just spanked Cook soundly by showing the world what an innovative company looks like. Tim Cook might say that the future is augmented reality but Microsoft just released a bunch of tools and products that offer consumers AR and VR solutions, including a phone that can be used as a 3D scanner. Hell the new Paint 3D in Windows 10 can be used for 3D printing. Any "creative" type thinking that an old 10 year old looking MacBook with a stupid touchbar on the top of the keyboard is what they need to help them do their job better is really in for a huge disappointment after today.

Apple's brand is dying under Tim Cook, Microsoft's brand is being raised from the ashes by Nadella.

At the end of the day, Satya Nadella is the CEO Apple wished they had.

I don't disagree with you, however the only way Microsoft ha no leaked parts is because their new machines are not available for purchase now (no mass production yet underway) and therefore much easier to control the leaks. If Apple is looking to have their machines available let's say in 1-2 weeks, they have been Mass producing them in China for a couple of months already. Easy to leak parts.

I find this to be short-sighted.

Microsoft has pulled out of their rear the coolest desktop computer in recent memory.

People buy things on looks; it's certainly what drew me to Apple in the first place.

Twenty eight MacRumors forum pages say that this machine is not to be underestimated.

If Tim is sighing relief at this point, he's pulling a Steve Ballmer post-iPhone release.

Please note that I did state that it's an awesome concept. I applaud Microsoft for having the courage to add, rather than remove. I just don't think it's worth the price and we don't know if it's as good as it looks in the presentation. I remember everybody raving over the Surface Book when that was announced and then it turned out that it was pretty meh. I see a lot of people saying that you should never buy a first gen Apple product, but Microsoft has been doing a lot worse with their first gen products in my humble opinion, so let's take a deep breath and see how it goes. As for looks, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some will adore it, some will think it looks uninspiring. I personally like it, but I don't find it amazing.

I view it as having a product ready for the holiday season, you have until the end of October to announce it , and get it shipped for xmas.

The way things are going, apple is surrendering the computer segment and focusing on the cash cow that is idevices. Microsoft will pick them off in the computer segment . I think apple will shock us tomorrow how thin and underpowered the new macs are.....relaying on thinness and gimmicks . I have a feeling the 2015 model will be superior like the 2012 Mac mini

A lot will depend on the available apps and tools. Can Office integrate it? And videogames?

Couldn't answer to video games (haven't really seen many bigger titles, except maybe Civilization that suppor touch), but Office will fully support it. office since 2013 has already supported full touch and full digitizer. They've been doing so since the introduction of Surface's themselves.

Microsoft are making really nice looking hardware these days. Shame you still have to run Windows.
That's why I hope Apple opens up OS X. It's a shame OS X is kept on aging overpriced hardware where Apple shows no interest in.

the current close competitor to the display tech itself is the Wacom 28" cintiq display which is currently retailing for $2800 (without computer)

Though to be fair, Wacom does gouge the hell out of everyone, simply because they're current the best of the best if you're a digital artist. I'd be willing to bet they're making about $1000 off each Cintiq sold.

But at the same time, the current highest resolution supported by the Cintiq line is only about a quarter (give or take) of what the Studio is sporting.

Did you hear that sound...

It is the sound of Apple dropping the ball.

Could Apple have created a surface studio like machine? Yes
Have apple fans and creative people wanted a machine like the Studio? Yes
Will make what we want... No

So sad.

Wacom on the other hand... they're panicking right now. Which is good.

I doubt it. MS doesn't seem to understand some of the standard preferences that creatives have for drawing screens like that, thus the fairly limited drafting table approach.

Last I heard, ole Bill still had a role a role at MS as whatshisface Nutella's tech advisor. I bet he's there at least once a week, talking about stuff.

Yeah, doesn't surprise me at all. You can't just let stuff like that go ... something you spent most of your adult life building from the ground up. He stepped back from it to do other things he wanted to do, like the charity foundation with his wife, but it shouldn't mean he's totally gone cold turkey from MS.

OK. They actually got my attention with all those "creator's update" repetition. But it's been more than 25 years I haven't wanted a PC, and this studio thingy is really amazing. At fist, I thought, ok, just an iMac designed with a mac mini below, but when the screen tilted, the stylus and the round gadget came, I was impressed.
