Let's start with iMac

http://******.com/?q=iMac+buzzing

If you are really keen look into the 2009 model, common issue.

My late 2009 iMac was and is a dog, worst Mac I have owned, HDD replaced, screen replaced, and now on to it's second graphics card isssue, and Apple say it is vintage and they don't carry the parts.
it's so hot you could cook an egg :)

20" iMac still works
17" G5 still works

even bought a lampshade iMac for $10 at an op shop which still works

This is the first time I MAY consider buying a Microsoft computer and I cannot believe I am saying this. I would miss OS X terribly though. I cannot stand Windows, ANY Windows.

The butterfly keys are actually very nice!
I know some people love them, but I write for a living and use a Ducky Shine 5 mechanical keyboard with my Mac mini. I don't mind the current MBP keyboard, but the butterfly is just too shallow with too little movement and tactile feedback for me. But absolutely, some people love it - but I will need an alternative.

I used to be the same, but Windows 10 is pretty good. What you lack in functionality and aesthetic (I too believe macOS X is the best OS), you make up for with sheer hardware performance and options. Worth the trade, sadly.

I love mine, as it still works, but it was a complete dog. Glad I got AppleCare, cause at the end of AppleCare apple replaced everything but the chassis, all the parts had failed. Even with replaced parts 3 years later the same issues still existed. Still buzzes when the screen goes off and i had to replace the hdd, which died again.

To be honest I like it for target mode, it works great as a 27 monitor

2012 Rmbp works fine now, for 12 months though I had awful wireless....google MacBook and wireless issues...Go on ;) I used wired

I'm sorry but there is nothing magical about macs, we mac users have seen many many products shipped with fundamental issues , thankfully many were fixed in time due to software. Please do your own research here

My Mac Pro , yeah it's a well knows software driver issue, community found the outdated drivers that needed desperate updates, which might have happened in sierra, but I don't have time to waste my time so just used a wired KB and mouse.

A Google search for "Thing that sells in volume + Problem" is hardly an indication of an endemic issue.

I never said there was anything "magical" and I find that patronizing. I definitely never said there were no problems with Macs either. My 2007 iMac's Mat****a superdrive really lived up to it's name. After its second failure I didn't even bother having it replaced.

In any case we seem to have wandered off the topic of thread and I'm going to sleep much too late.

Wow, I've never really like MS products but the Surface Studio is very impressive looking. I don't care for or need a touch screen interface on my desktop, but even without the touch screen interface the technical specification and design appear to best the iMac at first blush.

Apple really need to get back into innovating on the Mac. Steve Jobs once said that the Mac should be the "Digital Hub" with the iMac ideally suited for that role. Today Apple and Tim cook appear to view the iPhone as the center of your digital life.

So which is it? Should the iPhone be an appendage the Mac, or the Mac be an appendage to an iPhone either way neglecting one will hurt the other.

"Today Apple and Tim cook appear to view the iPhone as the center of your digital life. "

Being that the smartphone / iPhone is the most popular consumer device in history & possibly the only "computer" most users will ever need, I can fully understand why. But regarding Steve Jobs strategy of the Mac being the "Digital Hub", he actually changed that strategy in 2011 to iCloud being your "Digital Hub" with the Mac being relegated to just another device:

I do not think this device will have anywhere near the issues the SP4/SB had.

Not sure about the SB, but I have an SP4 that I picked up on day one, and while it did have a metric crapton of problems at the start, they were all software, and have since been ironed out. There at the beginning, I couldn't even watch videos without the screen turning green, or even wake the screen up from sleep consistently. But now? It runs flawlessly.

...though now that I've said that, it's probably going to burst into flames the next time I turn it on.

But anyway, after my experiences, and hearing about the problems MS has had with their previous hardware, I usually suggest people interested in getting a Surface for themselves wait a couple three months if they're picking up a brand new, just released one. MS hasn't quite mastered the art of the smooth hardware roll out just yet.

The Surface Studio sounds interesting, but I wonder how useful the tilt function will actually be in daily use and whether it's worth the premium. Apple patented this idea 7 years ago but clearly haven't seen the value of it in their labs to release it. Maybe if there's demand for Studio they'll change their minds.

I still don't get the Surface Book... that awful hinge and the detachable screen for those times when you absolutely need a semi-tablet for a couple of hours and paying through the nose for it?

don't discount that patent just yet. There's a good chance that, that patent will materialize but not in the form of iMac / macOS. Think 28" iPad Pro, Apple custom ARM SoC, iOS (of course more capable version than what we have now)

My hunch is, is that iOS / ARM are the future of Apple when it comes to the future of personal computing.

Agreed . Have a good night

Uh oh... you better watch yourself tomorrow because after Tim talks you'll be in a coma.

It's a good thing Tim only MC's the keynotes and speaks very briefly. Bet your bottom dollar Schiller will do the presentation for the Mac hardware.

Considering people plastering their private life all over social media, why not use a surveillance operating system as well? Add a Google phone, make a few scripts utilising all the private information tapped by MS and Google and have it piped out on social media automatically.

Now ppl don't manually have to annouce what they do, where they are, what they think, what they eat and when they take a dump, it's all automatic and there is shiny hardware to go with it as well. Done deal.
</sarcasm>

Personally, I'll go with :apple: shiny HW, if it's the absolutely latest chips and stuff I don't care, as long as its OS doesn't run a key logger and sell my private info to Joe down the street.

Today is the MBP day! Rejoice!

Or, per my earlier post, perhaps Apple did the research and decided it didn't add enough value for its users? Perhaps they decided iterating on input methods like the force touch trackpad and multi touch gestures offered more real world benefits? After all, they patented the Surface Studio idea 7 years ago: http://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2010/08/the-mother-lode-welcome-to-the-imac-touch.html

Sometimes these novel ideas look and sound cool, but in practice, they aren't nearly as useful or practical in real world use. Surface Book is a perfect example.

Surface Book is my favorite of the Surface products, even more than the Studio for the simple reason that it would have the most practical use in my day to day life. Don't care much for SP4

The best use-case scenario for a tilting touchscreen desktop is really just drawing and with the advent of the Apple Pencil I'm sure Apple has since revisited a tilting touchscreen iMac. Otherwise I prefer my human interface on a desktop computer to be horizontally oriented via mouse/trackpad.

I agree but don't think touch-screen iMac but desktop size (ie: 28") iPad, powered by ARM / iOS.

What don't you like about it? (honest question) :)

I'm not the one you asked, but I can chime in on this.
I work with both Windows and Mac. I hate Windows. I feel ill as soon as I sit at a Windows computer. It's better with W10, but still...

It's hard to say exactly why, but here are some points:
- Everything is overcomplicated on Windows. Like how you create an account.
- Too many question about silly things, that just don't happens on a Mac.
- The OS tries so much to be friendly, but you just hate it. Like "Your desktop seems to contain unused shortcuts, do you want me to clean it up for you?". Never happens on a Mac.
- MacOS is free. Windows costs $, and if you use it in an AD environment it's actually *very* expensive.
- Windows comes in one trillion different variants. MacOS is one.
- Windows need serial numbers.
- You have to care about if you are on 32 bit computer or a 64 bit computer. On a Mac you don't have to care.
- It's easier to drag files and use the dock on a Mac.
- On a Mac you can focus on your work, on Windows you have to think more about the tech.
- Windows is ugly.

All in all it's all about the small details.
MacOS of course have some idiotic things as well, but while Windows have ten of those, MacOS have one.

I hope tomorrow’s highlights are more than some videos featuring robots assembling hardware featuring a voiceover of some dude with an English accent saying words like beautiful, innovative, and aluminum.

The Surface Studio is what the iMac should have become years ago. and it's absolutely beautiful. Sadly, rather like the iMac, it's also horribly underpowered.

Does rather show how Apple have completely lost interest in innovation in the pro sector though. Ive and co should look carefully at the Surface Studio and learn.

Mannnnnn. I never played MoH:AA, but I played Medal of Honor: Frontline, which I think was essentially the same game but ported to consoles. My gosh, what a remarkable game. I can't even put it into words. For it's time, I feel it was the best WWII storyteller in the industry. You have me wanting to go back and play it right now! Although... it sounds like it hasn't aged well. Haha!

The Surface studio looks glorious for photographer / artist.

I want one. But, not with the internals. Someone needs to create a stand-alone monitor with all this functionality, but without the actual internals.

I'd still rather keep with my legit desktop than an All-in-one. But a surface display with the dial, and the pen spport would be nce

What you're asking for already exists, minus the dial. It's called a Cintiq.
