A 27" iPad Pro on an iMacG4-like hydrolic arm would be fantastic.

This is my favorite Mac, I love the design and I was saddened to see it be abandoned so quickly.

Wouldn't the price problem with the Studio be due to having such a massive touch-screen? Spec-wise it doesn't seem very "pro" to me, but that screen and how it interacts with that accessory on-screen seems quite unique. That's what's driving the price to be so high...
I'm not saying MS has zero justification on the price point, but I am saying for the consumer its too high. You are getting a unique computer and its amazing for what it does but I do think 3,000 is too high (at least for me)

It's Apples stubbornness that is allowing competitors to overtake them. The refusal to implement touch in to MacOS is preventing the type of devices that are pulling Microsoft forward!

I agree that touch in Windows is pretty bad, but with the capital Apple has is it really that hard to make a truly revolutionary touch capable desktop OS

I wonder about the ergonomics of what is otherwise a gorgeous surface studio. It seems that in these demos the Surface Studio is very close to the edge of the desk, so that using it "tablet" style is very easy. But in "desktop" mode, when using the keyboard (writing a long document), I think the computer has to be placed far from the edge of the desk, both because of ergonomics and eye comfort (this is a 28" beast). At least this is what works for me. So one would have to pull (push) the computer closer (further) when switching from "desktop" to "tablet" use and viceversa. thoughts?

As far as I can tell that is the purpose of the incredibly complex hinge. So you can pull it closer when needed and use like a graphic design easel and then push back into the traditional AIOPC position. I have to say the Surface line is impressive and has a lot of advantages and innovations over several Apple product lines(other than it being Windows);
iOS for iPad Pro needs work to make it truly pro, when surface (Pro) runs a full desktop OS
rMBP we'll need to todays release to compare to the Surface Book, I gues it depends which you see as a bigger innovation a powerful well designed hybrid PC or an Oled touch pad. Specs will be roughly the same.
iMac versus Studio no real innovation in iMac since the magic trackpad

What these releases do though is nullify the old argument from Wintel types that Macs are too expensive!

I disagree, as much as I don't want to. The one thing I would not label either the Surface Book i7 or the Surface Studio as is 'elegant'. Sure, the Surface Studio display looks great. It's clean lines and uniform design are very Apple like, but then there's the godawful stand housing the real hardware, which is where the thought process and attention to detail ends.
I don't mind the housing, and just remember Apple rolled out the Lampshade G4 iMac which had a large base (by the way that was one of my favorite iMacs). Perhaps that's why I like this so much

I think they're aiming at the creative professionals. The biggest group of Apple-users from the beginning. Those same group who's getting neglected by Apple the last 5 years. Very good move from Microsoft and I hope Microsofts move is to push Apple to finally make a decision: be a serious computer hardware manufacture or keep the computer business as a hobby. Because the hobby is how they've been treating their computers the last couple of years. An expensive hobby. Milking their loyal customers to the last drop by selling them retro hardware at premium prices.

Very true.

Microsoft have just reinvented the creative person's desktop computer and I think this Studio will define the direction of desktops for the next decade or so. And we all thought it was Apple's job to do that.

Still can't quite believe I find myself saying this!

I just looked at the MS presentation... I wasn't all that impressed. I like the looks and size of the Studio, but looks too expensive for what it does. MS seems to be on this Artist kick to validate putting touch screen on a everything they make. The dial seems like a waste of time. Why do you really need such a thing?

When it comes right down to it... I'd love to play with a MS studio.... BUT... I think it would be overkill for 99% of what most people do on the computer... like writing in forums or Facebook. :)

Panos said as much in his presentation.

I wasn't all that impressed.
The media event was boring as anything, and maybe its me, but Panos really rubs me the wrong way, seems very arrogant.

With that said, everyone has a right to their opinion, mine is such that the Studio is a great (albeit expensive) AIO.

I'm not a creative professional, heck I cannot even draw a straight line with a ruler so I cannot say if its a great computer for its target audience but from my uneducated perspective, its awesome :)

Studios display is DCI P3

Q-6
I was wondering that, as they didn't come out and explicitly say that

How dare they make an event with no emojis and watch bands in the agenda?

Joke aside, good job MSFT. Hope the prices come down to a more realistic ballpark...

Apple better get their act together from today. This is starting to turn into the Turtle and the Rabbit story...

So expensive! I'm used to paying an Apple premium but $3,000 starting price for this thing sounds crazy for what it provides. Even the current 27" iMac is a better value.
I looked up the price of the Surface Book and it was an eye watering $3,799 to $5,199 AUD. I don't think so at that price.

I'd never have thought that Microsoft would have a Windows laptop more expensive that overpriced Apple gear, gee the exchange rate is hurting my mind...
Apple 13" rMBP 512GB/16GB/2.9 i5 $3199 AUD
Apple 15" rMBP 512GB/16GB/2.5 i7 $3799 AUD
Microsoft Surface Book 13.5" 512GB/16GB $4399 AUD (Has touch screen and pencil included)

Clearly this computer is not aimed at most people who just need something for email and social media. Its called a "Studio". It is aimed squarely at creative professionals or those aspiring to be.

If you are a creative professional then the top spec Studio, at a little over $4000 is an absolute bargain. There is nothing else like it. As someone wrote earlier, a cabby will happily pay $50,000 for his "tool". $4,000 for the tool that enables you to earn a good living is negligible.

I said this a number of times and I hope I'm wrong, but I don't want to see a MBP that just has the OLED bar.

Given the positive spin that MS has received, any weakness in the apple line up, whether real or perceived is going to be amplified because of what MS did yesterday.

With a product aimed at the select few within media production; why is 8gb of ram even an option? I've done some amateur photoshop editing with raw files and am quite content with my 16gb.
For the professionals in the field, when would the 8gb model even be considered? Who would buy it? I'm not amazing at computer specs so if I'm missing something here please inform me.

Edit: incredibly good looking product never the less. I'd never buy one as I have no need for its functions, but damn it looks good. I also don't think it's targeting iMac users specifically as I've seen articles and forums write, but just the select few within "studio" environments.

They beat Apple at their own game: thinness.
Does it count if you achieve thinner by taking out all the stuff and putting it the foot, making it way thicker in the process?

Yes

What many seem to miss, is that Microsoft is putting last years laptop GPU's into these devices, but still they cost A LOT! Nvidia has just released the 10x0-series GPU's for laptops, that are WAY better, while still drawing less power. And these are already in a whole bunch of laptops.

While i love the look of the new Surface Book and Studio, i would never spend that much money on "obsolete" GPU's. Not when they release the devices this late in the year. A shame.

Yeah perhaps he can sort out phones and xbox sales next ?
The phones are dead, they totally messed up and missed that opportunity, but from what I here, xbox is back on track. I'm PS4 owner, so I can't say for sure, but from what I hear its doing better
