ads

first off the ads did not make sense. Second a 4+ minute commercial no one is going to watch that. They will change the channel or fast forward if possible. Third i have been using pcs since dec 1994. Every version of windows has been worse than the one before it. I cant wait until windows 7 sends Microsoft in to bankruptcy because they don't fix problems they just cause more.
vista made me switch to mac. A Mac was about the only way i could get a computer that would actually work.

It's seriously going to take one hell of an ad to counteract the all of the damage that the get a mac ad's have done to Microsoft. Honestly, I don't think it can be done. Microsoft doesn't understand that commercials need to have meaning and substance to become successful. Of all the Microsoft ads that I've seen recently, there has been nothing that would even make me think about switching to Vista.

>.>

That's not a weakness, considering MS has no offering on their own..

"Hey I'm a PC, and I'm a Mac"
"Hey Mac, why can you only (technically) run on six hardware configurations while I can run on an endless array of technological goodness from hundreds of thousands of vendors muwhahahahah!111!1!"
"So I don't have to support "an endless array of technological goodness from hundreds of thousands of vendors muwhahahahah!111!1!" -_-"
You know... that could go both ways.

"Hey I'm a PC, and I'm a Mac"
"Hey PC, why do you run on and endless array of technological goodness from hundreds of thousands of vendors?"
"So I don't have pay for a shiny, overpriced, yet underpowered computer from a closed-minded, all-knowing company who-decides-what-I-wants-because-its-so-shiny, company. :D

Yes, I'm joking.

Damage? I hardly doubt the "Get a Mac" commercials changed the mind of anyone who wasn't already heavily considering a Mac. (which is therefore, not their target audience.)

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

Can't wait for the new commercials.
I disliked the first two Microsoft ads very much.
I really enjoy Apple's ads. I can't wait to see Microsoft's "comeback."

I don't quite understand what you mean, but what I mean is that the get a mac ads have caused damage to the Microsoft name.

Disappointing. I was hoping MS would put on a cleverly crafted campaign. Maybe they could just buy one that some small player has already started.

You got to be kidding me that they spent $10,000,000 on Seinfeld for those two POS ads? No wonder Vista doesn't work.

Well, they tried.

I don't get how hard these guys make it look to make a great ad. It's not that hard at all. People don't want abstract, and they don't want to have to think about it. They want you to tell them clearly what the idea behind the product is.

- iPhone ads: Show the product. All white background, no visual distraction. Walk you through some of the features, like Safari and GPS. All about the product. Tells you why it's a great product, and what the idea behind it is.
- MacBook Air: Show the product. Key feature: size. Make the point visually that it's very thin. That's it. Shows the idea behind the product, and no extra fuzz.
- iMac ads: Show the product. Design philosophy: remove the cable clutter. Spin the product around, make it clear that it's a neat unit. That's it. People get the point.
- iPod nano ads: Show the product. Key feature: lots of colours, new, thin form factor. Spin the product around, let them see it. Show the new colours. Done.
- iPod touch ads: Show the product. Key feature: games (app store). Show some examples. Nuff said.

Notice a pattern? Show the damn product! Make it all about the product! I saw a chewing gum advert the other day that had some guy at the photocopier. He fell through the floor, got dragged around different places, shrunk, and fell in to the copier. What on earth is that about? Why should I buy that product? To get high?

Even the iPhone advertising at the stores is beginning to get copied. Apple decided to have giant demo units, to show people the product. Now everyone's trying to do it, which is good, but the stuff on the screens is not what you get on the handset, which shows they missed the point entirely.

Oh they didn't miss the point. MS is actually trying to make the VIEWER miss the point. Which is that MS doesn't have a great product(s). MS is about maintaining a monopoly...not about making great products.

What Apple needs to release is a "small", head-less computer (doesn't matter if it's a bit bigger than the Mac mini) but with the specifications of the iMac (decent discrete GPU, 3.5" hard drive, DVD Burner).

Yet another armchair CEO.

You guys need to pipe down a bit on the whole "Apple needs to..." bit. I'm not trying to pick on you, specifically, Yvan256, but every thread, at least one poster makes some bold statement of what Apple needs to be doing. In case you haven't noticed, in this horrible economy, Apple is the only computer maker that is thriving. Why can't you just concede that maybe Apple seems to know what's best for running Apple right now? Or that they have a plan that seems to be working for them just fine.

If they don't have some product or service that meets your current wants or needs right now, that's a shame. Maybe they will build one in the future. But please stop with this arrogant belief that you (or I) have any real knowledge on what it takes to make Apple more successful. I'm betting that the inmense majority here (myself included), don't.

They said Pharrell William's is to be in the new ad's. I know for a FACT he uses a lot of mac. Seriously, all they are doing is getting mac user's and paying them a lot of money to LIE! ahahah

I don't quite understand what you mean, but what I mean is that the get a mac ads have caused damage to the Microsoft name.
Yeah, I misunderstood you... Still, I don't think Microsoft's name is really damaged by the commericals (outside of Mac users). If anything, their problem is the lack of "wow" associated with their name..

One thing that I HATE that people comparing PC's and Mac's never take into consideration is that Apple computers can run both. The only thing to compare is the price and specs really.
YES! Another thing people need to take into consideration is that Apple has a $600 starters Mac that works perfectly fine and will work with your previous monitor, mouse, and keyboard. So basically if you get a Mini your getting a new medium performance machine, for only $600 and if you don't like OS X :)confused:) you can just install Windows.

Damage? I hardly doubt the "Get a Mac" commercials changed the mind of anyone who wasn't already heavily considering a Mac. (which is therefore, not their target audience.)

Every calendar day, almost 10,000 people who have never owned a Mac before, buy their first Mac. I think they might disagree with your statement.

This is a complete failure. MS have been owned in the advertising space, and have failed again. Who do Microsoft think they are? The Democrats?

Hey, Apple's making great money with the market share they have. Let MS do what they want. I don't want Apple to be in the forefront because then the hack focus is on them. Those who know how great Apple is, know and those who don't, don't. Let the PC users be oblivious in their misery while we keep loving our Macs without big time security threats. Plus Macs can run Windows anyway, so let's be happy that we know their argument is moot.

:apple: forever (wow what a geek)

LOLOLOL okay let me see if I have this straight: MS paid an agency $300M

Umm...no. No company on the planet has enough money to pay their agency $300M. The ad numbers people throw around are the sum total advertising spend. Media buy included.

I predict Crispin drops this account within a week. I think the Seinfeld / Gates ads were finally making MS interesting. How foolish of me to think MS is capable of maintaining that image.
