Price check!!!!!!!!!!

Microsoft's not hurting for money, I don't think they'll lower the prices, since box sales of Windows generally aren't very high anyway.

Windows Vista Home Basic $199
Windows Vista Ultimate $319

Are you referring to an old version of windows like windows 95 or 98 or 98SE or ME or 2000 or XP?

im talking about the price you pay when you purchase a computer. you can buy an hp laptop with the same specs as a MBP for over $1000 cheaper. Why the $1000 price hike? The answer is OS X.

Which HP laptop?

Thus far, every time I've played this game I find the other person is cheating in some important way.

Did you read my whole post? I don't think so otherwise you wouldn't be saying this.

As I said in my original post, yes Apple are doing well, but we'll never know how much better they could be doing with that "missing link" Mac.

I did and what you are saying proves my point.

Give Apple some credit. It's not like these ideas of a "missing link Mac" you and others are posting are so revolutionary that Apple hasn't considered them before. Do you really believe that Apple is that much in a bubble? You can bet your last dollar that there have been numerous meetings to discuss whether they should invest in designing, manufacturing, and selling a mid-level headless Mac. Up until now, the result of these meetings is that they believe it probably wasn't in their best interest to do so. Tomorrow, that may change.

So, no, we could never know how much better they could be doing if they sold one. Just like we could never know how much worse they could be doing if they sold one. But the decision makers at Apple, the ones that have been very successful in recent years, seem to think they know what's better for their business than some random people in a rumors forum. I tend to agree.

It doesn't matter if Apple are selling lots of computers, because unless they do release this "missing link" Mac, we'll never be able to compare sales numbers "with" and "without" this Mac. With that out of the way...

Apple doesn't make a computer "for the rest of us": screen-less but with decent specs like an iMac.

I think Apple would make some good sales on such a machine. Basically your standard cheap mini tower as made by Dell, HP, etc.

The downsides are
1) It makes their computers more directly comparable with Dells & HPs... so they'll need to make sure they match prices.
2) Those machines have very low margins, so Apple wouldn't make much money on them. They may take sales away from iMacs, not so good.
3) Apple wants to be "unique", and these position Apple more as a PC company. Most Apple products seem aimed to get people saying "so THAT's the computer!?" (iMac, Mac Mini... and even the iPhone, AppleTV.)

If anything, I'd prefer to see Apple cut a deal to sell OSX on a small range of Dells that are configured like an iMac. That way they make profit on OSX, they don't have to customise OSX much, they don't reduce their margins, and they expand interest in OSX. I think that's doable....

games

Heres an idea. Show a kid playing games and his friend just brought his imac over to party with his itunes collection. Friend looks over at guy playing a cool game like crysis and says, "Hot gee wiz tom, Hook me up with that so we can play together!". Tom looks over and says, " Sure, heres the keys to my car so you can buy yourself a pc".

That is the price of the hardware not OSX. Don't buy mac if you don't want too. You can buy an OSX for $129.00 and install it on your HP. Like you mentioned earlier you are running leopard on a PC anyway. Buying hardware is a different story just like buying other brand of PC's or cars in other aspect.

The NYTimes cites a number of research companies who felt that the buzz surrounding the first two ads were sufficiently positive and accomplished their goal.

In other news the same companies who said that the buzz surrounding the first two ads were sufficiently positively have also concluded that the average Americans' view of the major oil companies is at an all time high. :p

Also need to make devices have the ability to move the music around plus DELETE movies, podcast, music, from the device, NOT ITUNES.

You do know that you can delete movies, tv shows, and podcasts directly from the iPhone and iPod touch, right? All you have to do is swipe your finger from left to right across the name of the item you want to delete.

How old are you... 13?

That was a pathetic example of apples to apples. :p

and, you can play crysis on a mac... You just need to install XP.

Now let's see you produce tomorrows biggest hit song, or edit a photo.... OR RUN MAC... on the crummy PC your on...

s' what I thought...

Envy 133

I think the HP Envy 133 which is also overpriced that until now I heard nobody buy it. Anyone from the forum has the Envy?

The Envy 133 a new laptop from HP's boutique line, Voodoo, which is known for overpriced computers, unfortunately. Its a MacBook Air competitor (thinner, instant-on Voodoo OS, etc) at a higher price point.

Read the NY Times article referenced in the original post. MS is just pathetic. They are concerned that Apple has defined their (MS) brand. What MS should realize is that it is not Apple that has defined MS, but MS's lousy user experience. Standing on a corner yelling "we are not that bad!" does not fix the problem of being "that bad."

On the other hand, standing on the corner yelling is a whole lot easier than fixing the real problem.

I have never understood why Microsoft does not target the weakest link in the Apple methodology - the lack of hardware choice. Apple offers 6 computers (MacPro, iMac, MacMini, MacBook Pro, Macbook and MacBook Air) and its a huge weakness.

I can see it now.

Over here you have a paltry 6 choices of computers that work seemlessly with OS X.

Is that what we consider choice?

Microsoft offers thousands of third party hardware machines that may or may not run well of your choice.

Vote for choice!!

You realize the mini comes with a 3-year old GPU, outdated processor, 80GB Hard drive, and only 1 GM Ram right? It hasn't been updated in so long, people think its DEAD.

hah, your right. and apple won't release a midsized tower, they think imacs with a laptop cpu is fine for business and home use. and only offer power in mac pro's. which are expensive.

Hey i knew it all along. The commercials prove that PC guys are all fat losers!!!

The Mac guy is way cooler.

If I were a company that was hiring a CEO position, then I would not hire the PC guy. The only thing he can do is probably code programs.

I would hire the Mac guy for CEO. He can probably do cool graphics and videos and 3D stuff.

Sure. We need posers for CEOs and hiring on the basis of looks, not qualifications

Good thing you're not in a position to hire a CEO.

Don't think I'm lashing out or anything, but why are stories about Microsoft's advertising strategies always on the front page? I admit, it's kind of interesting to see what other companies are doing to counter Apple's advertising, but really, shouldn't this be on Page 2?

The answer is simple, it shouldn't be "Mac Rumors" but instead "Sort of Mac news that has already been covered elsewhere with the occasional rumor". Unfortunately that domain name was too long.

I'm glad these ads are out of Beta. I liked the Seinfeld ones but they didn't go anywhere unless you really, really dug into symbolism.
