The fact that they feel they have to respond with a direct reply is great as it announces to the world that they're on the defensive, and the PC/Mac ads have become a phenomenon in their own right. And their response sounds weak as piss; not any better than any lame YouTube send-up. Sort of like that rap song a few years ago where a guy dissed his ex-girlfriend, and she covered the song, reworking it in reply but wound up a) having to pay him royalties, and b) coming off sounding like complete trash because her only reply was to have a go at his penis.

All very good news for us.

Add to this that both the Macbook and iMac DO NOT USE STANDARD firewire chipsets from TEXAS INSTRUMENTS (only in Mac Pro and MBP), which leads to many problems with FIREWIRE devices. In fact, I was recently at Avid Symphony, no offense Apple but AVID is still the TOP DOG with TV/FEATURE film and I WAS SHOCKED when I found out the school uses ALL VISTA 64 BIT, high end SERVER type machines with blazing speed, they stated much faster than you can get with a MAC PRO top of the line.

I don't know how much you know about production, but Avid Symphony is the name of the system. I'm not sure what school you're talking about, but ones that have existing Symphonys will probably continue to teach it. If you sink that kind of money into a machine you might as well get your use out of it.

It has been my experience that Final Cut is taking over the industry. The only people still using Avid are holdouts. Granted some Avid systems offer some real time editing, but unless you spend the big bucks you're not going to get as much real time editing as a Final Cut system.

In all the people I've met, I've known 3 people who knew Avid. One guy started before non-linear editing. One guy was taught Avid at school, and the other guy wound up with the system and learned it himself.

I'm in graphics and my work system is an 8 core Mac Pro with 8GB RAM. The only people who even use PCs in our office are account execs and that's it. Sorry, but I, and many others I'm sure, think you're flat out wrong.

hah, your right. and apple won't release a midsized tower, they think imacs with a laptop cpu is fine for business and home use. and only offer power in mac pro's. which are expensive.

My little wish for MacMini ... is to include a stand-alone GPU... :(

Sorry. Leopard isn't worth $800 to me, but you sure are welcome to :)

You forgot to mentioned the other included software like iLife and etc. not "BLOATWARE". Of course you also have to pay extra for having a nice looking machine. If you wanna stick with PC just stay in there. I'm sure I'm not paying $320 for Vista. I don't like the idea that a PC company is making extra money because of the pre-installed crappywares that's a scam people.

You can spec a HP dv5t for $1700 that will completely outclass (not match) the $2499 MacBook Pro.

Interesting.

The HP dv5t basic model is about $700 less than a comparable MBP, that's with the included rebate of $100.
Although there are some subtle differences, including the HP's lack of Firewire (AFAIK) and the Express Card. But, the MBP has a fewer pixels in the screen and a smaller hard-drive.

This is good for HP. Maybe there's hope for them yet.

why would canada need a different model? could u clarify for me?

i think its because hp canada distributes different laptops then hp in the us. its kinda like going to mcdonalds in canada and then mcdonalds in the US. Some things are just a bit different :p.

From the NY Times article: “This is just the beginning, the first phase of the campaign,” said Mich Mathews, senior vice president for marketing at Microsoft. “We’re on a journey to reposition the PC.”

Granted, MS needs to do SOMETHING, but... what was that I heard recently about lipstick on a pig?

AS bought it on the canadian website –*I assume he actually lives there, just like if I link to Apple.dk, to show you a computer I bought, it would go to the danish website.
But, as he stated, it would be cheaper in the US.

Btw, it's propably the keyboard that's a little different. I assume they have one more key, just like Apple's laptops outside the US (as in here in Denmark, the rest of EU, including UK) has one more key. Further, we have a danish kb here, if you had any doubts ;)

what i mean is, why would HP have two model numbers, one ending in us and another ending in ca, differentiating the laptops from each other.

Is there anything in one that is not in the other or are they exactly the same, but sold in different countries. does canada have different laws or something restricting certain chemicals or metals in laptops so that HP needs to make two different models, and call them DVxxxxca and DVxxxxus???

Your hilarious. The PC manufacturer is able to offer laptops at a low price because they include pre-installed software. If you know how to remove a program, its not that hard to get rid of 'em, and you just got a cheaper computer because of it. They aren't making extra money, your saving money.

Apple is certainly not the exclusive maker of "nice looking" machines, and a dv5t looks fairly pleasant. Just face it, Macs are much more expensive than their PCs counterparts. It may be worth the extra price to you, and that's perfectly fine.... Just don't act like your getting a bargain of any sort.

No amount of money can buy talent...

$300,000,000 is a lot a spend on such a awful campaign. Wonder how much they spent on the Windows ME campaign?

You know Jerry got his money up front.

I added this to my post, but I'll paste it here too:

TOTTALLLY!!!! NOBODY USE WINDOW ON MAC OSX... IT DONT EVEN EXXIST!!!

damn right! by the way i bought this for 1099 canadian which would be much less in the US which proves my point further about the overpriced OS apple includes with their hardware.

$1099 Canadian is $1022 US. Have you seen the exchange rates recently? $1USD is $1.07CAD.
