Ugghh...Apple might consider suing Microsoft. The implication is that there is no way to get a keyboard with the iPad and that the Surface comes with a keyboard, neither of which is true.

Also, I played with a Surface the other day. That kickstand is worthless because it has only one angle. I'd much rather have a case that allows me to adjust the angle of the tablet and use the space on the actual tablet for a bigger battery.

And should Microsoft have sued for the false things in the Mac vs PC ads?

You answered his question incorrectly. You still have to pay for office. It doesn't come free. Either monthly for office 365 or lump sum for 2013

Wrong.

You get Office for free with the RT.

The only restrictions are the ones that Home and Student have.

Ironically, the 16GB iPad has more free space for data and apps than the 32GB Surface RT.

BTW. The Surface RT (or otherwise) cannot be used on the lap with that kickstand and that flimsy keyboard whereas an iPad with a keyboard case can.

If you want a stand, get a smartcover.

The Surface RT ships with 15GB free (this can be made bigger if you remove the recovery data) whereas the flash chips on the iPad 16GB come to about 14.2 before the OS is factored in.

So how does the iPad have more space?

If Micro$oft is trying to make the Surface a laptop replacement, they are failing. First, the keyboard (which is essentially the same a typing on a touch screen) is NOT included. And how are you supposed to use the device, "keyboard" and all on your lap? I don't think that it will work as well as a normal laptop. And the Windows 8 UI is just plain UGLY! I don't care about the price, I'd buy an iPad before I even thought about this thing.

I like the Surface RT. Both a tablet and a laptop, not great at either but good at both.

Yeah, ask Microsoft how many apps are available for the Surface RT and it's game over. Sure, Surface RT is (now) less expensive than the iPad -- and should have been so all along. There are serious usability shortcomings to Surface RT if you want to do much more than what you can do with a ChromeBook.

Over 100,000. Is that game over?

They should run a commercial about how cool they are because they are super rare and unique.

Then they could offer a $500 bounty the first time two unique users meet each other.

It is more in magical iPad land where Apple makes everything better.

No, Office 2013 RT Home and Student comes free with the Surface RT. Your reply is incorrect, his was correct.

I still don't see how people figure that. I would rather have a Surface any day of the week - it is actually a useful device that can create files, in a known Office package, save them to a familiar file system rather than a failed online service, and transfer them directly via a USB stick as people are used to.

One can also put files onto the device in the same way, including many video formats that play natively. By comparison when people ask me, "can you put that on my iPad?" I have to say, "I have no idea." With no USB and no visible file system, I find myself at a loss. Maybe through iTunes?

Having to carry a flash drive is a waste

To do any serious work you still need a computer, and this particular doesn't seem to be one, maybe I'm wrong, but does it do pivot tables in excel?

We all know the Surface isn't selling even with such shameless ads like these that are idiotic and poorly done. I bet Microsoft will lose the text logo at the end of each of their ads and just show their colorful logo instead like Apple does. Just wait.

And if you don't have a net connection?

Obviously, they are establishing a contrast between the two devices before the second generation Surface arrives. They can improve battery life, processor issues, app availability, and absence of retina display with the second generation model. What won't change - the multitasking, expansion options, kickstand, Office, etc.. They are targeting objective customers, not Apple fanboys.

If people look beyond the fanboy perspective, they'll realize that the ultimate goal of these ads is not a Surface (gen 1) versus iPad 4 head to head comparison. It is setting the table for future Surface versus iPad comparisons. It's actually a very appropriate strategy.

As much as I love the Surface, I doubt they're going to be making another any time soon. They have 6 million unsold of the first gen.

I think that they make a valid argument. Apple treats the iPad like a large phone while Microsoft treats Surface like a small computer. That said, iPad has the apps, and therefore is much more capable.

I would buy a surface tablet over any Android tablet! iPad on the other hand is in a league of its own

my goodness i hate that guitar music on these commercials. not just this one but all these that try to convey happyness and ****

Shhhhh, someone might actually hear you make sense. My hate of Windows RT is well known, but it is quite annoying to hear the ignorance when people mistakenly keep harping on the disc space issue which doesn't exist.

Other than that WinRT must die, carry on....

I am both wrong and disappointed.

Seriously hope they don't botch the gen 2 sales the way they botched the first gen.

Since they are comparing displays;

The 2,048 by 1,536 resolution display of the iPad 4 embarrases the 1,366 by 768 resolution display of the Surface RT. 3.15 million pixels versus 1.05 makes the .9 inch size difference irrelevant. Display the same fine-font document / spreadsheet on the two displays and see which display seems "larger". Of course the Surface is cheaper device, because it is, well, . . . a cheaper device.

the only thing which apple has over microsoft: ecosystem. this is the backbone of apple, this is the thing why apple is so successful and rich;), this is the reason why millions of apple products are sold monthly and this is the reason why people stick to apple. it'd be good for apple to keep developing their ecosystem and never giving the competition any chance to take lead. once the competition has an ecosystem as strong as apple's idont see any reason why people would stay with apple. ecosystem is the KEY!

MS: can you save the advertising cash and make a true next gen console without 2011 midrange tech.

Can my digital purchases carry over??? No??? Boooo

to add: The surface, better with Kinect!!! Waiting for that advert. I do think MS tablets are far better than Androids offerings though, Win8 works well for tablets. IMO
