<sarcasm>How dare Microsoft compare the differences between Macs and PCs on their site like Apple did on TV and on their own site for years.</sarcasm>

Maybe there isn't a tsunami of USB 3.0 devices hitting the shelves right now, but do you remember the time when Apple used to be first with introducing stuff like USB, Firewire, DVI ports, DVD writers etc, even when there weren't necessarily any peripherals to buy yet? Apple used to take pride in doing that. Now it seems they're trying to be the last. They've updated the entire lineup (except MBA) this year, but USB 3 is nowhere in sight, nor is the next-gen firewire, and they're holding off Blu-ray in the hope that the magical bandwidth fairy will descend and give everyone terabit broadband.

(also sarcasm...) I don’t know about you, but I have a 4 Yottabyte per second download speed and a 1.5 Zettabyte per second upload.

Well, I appreciate your kind words about my posting style.

I've said this before about the Windows era dying, and in the past I've pointed out that we still have mainframes in use, but we're hardly in the mainframe era any more. So Windows will be around forever in one form or another just as COBOL is still around, but the mindshare will move on.

I don't think people have realized how rapidly computing is about to change. The touch era is just beginning, and for Windows to think Windows 7 is the answer on a tablet is as laughable as if Apple was trying to push OS X on the iPad. Apple is not trying that, but Microsoft is. Clueless to the end.

I agree with this. And add that the traditional desktop PC/OS whether it's Windows or the Mac is only offering marginal improvements from version to version. I'm still using a 2006 Mac Pro, and don't really see a need to upgrade. I use it for work, iTunes server, and content creation (iMovie, Aperture, Photoshop.). How much better is it going to get to sit at my desk with a hot brick full of disk so I can crank out contet? For me, the real the win is in using that content. Our family's biggest technology gains have been Smartphones, iTunes (and Airport Express) and the iPad, for making that content available where we want to be, not at the desk.

That said, maybe some new consumption devices will drive the heavy weight creation tools to improve. But for now, a PC is a PC.

“man, they cant even make enough iPhones to meet demand and there are all these friendly, helpful people in the store. I guess they are probably gonna go out of business soon.”

Please reread your post and think about it. It truly makes no sense at all.

It's called sarcasm, you should try it sometime. (I will admit, it was not my best example.)

I don’t know about any of you guys but I seem to use maybe 4 or 5 keyboard shortcuts in windows, but I find myself using shortcuts constantly in OS X. Anybody else?

They've been doing a ton of work with intel on light peak. I personally think they're waiting to make a big jump to that but it means that for the short term they're stagnating in the "latest and greatest" department.

That said, all these interesting deals and patents lately make me think there will be a lineup sometime in the not so distant future that will make us go "wow".

Kind of jealous of Windows blu-ray support....

Windows 7 has no built in blu-ray player support.

*IF* you buy a blu-ray hardware, or it comes bundled with a laptop/desktop, you might get the OEM software player. But the OEM version will be a previous version of the software, that's not being maintained any-more, and will not have things like surround sound support. You'll need to buy a licence for the premium version to actually get full Blu-Ray playback.

I want to see some new "Mac Vs PC" ads :D

mac-vs-pc.jpg

While these commercials were a little funny, overall, I didn't care for them. They made Mac users look snobbish. That's why I kinda liked the Microsoft "I'm a PC" commercials. Instead of saying what's wrong with the competition, they said what was good about themselves. With the Apple commercials, they point out why I shouldn't get Windows. But didn't show why I should get Apple. Maybe I would get Linux instead.

Let the flamewars from all the Apple fanbois begin.

From a younger person's perspective, from the Get a Mac ads I did watch, the mac seemed more nonchalant than "snobbish".

Hahahahahahaha One of the reasons they list is "A PC just works." Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Wow.

"we have to let go of the notion that Microsoft has to lose" No they still have to lose But in my opponion they lost a long time ago

When Microsoft writes things such as "PCs are always ready, willing, and—most importantly—able to get down to business" as opposed to Macs, it shows that Microsoft has serious issues with PR. It's like when Steve Ballmer stated that the bad sales numbers of Windows "epic fail" Vista were due to software piracy.

MS does have a point on Blu-Ray

Is this really such a bad thing? Apple needs good competition, and Microsoft are coming out with some great new features in Windows. Without these features, don't expect to see anything equal or better in Mac OS. Companies don't bother improving something to such a great extent if they don't need to.

Blu-Ray is a good reason to use Windows. So what if Jobs doesn't like it? It'd be nice if you had the option to play them, and not just left in the lurk.

I agree, Blu-Ray is very sweet, i love my PS3, it plays Blu-Rays Flawlessly, i really wish Apple would just reconsider this and adopt it. I am really disappointed that the new Mac Pro's wont have Blu-Ray, USB 3, FW3200 or LightPeak. Windows 7 is a pretty dam good OS, not as good as OSX but its catching up fast...

Anything by Gigabyte, ASUS, MSI, ASrock, BioStar, Zotac (etc etc) released in the last few months has USB3. Hundreds of PC boards with USB3 on them.
The question was, what PC MODELS from recognizable brands, not what motherboard can you buy off the shelf. Most people have full time jobs and have no interest in building PCs as a hobby.

Oh. How unfortunate. They're using stock photos again.

Trust Microsoft to use nameless, generic people to put a pseudo-"face" to their products.

You know, they ought to just acquire Getty and be done with it.

Exactly what I was getting at, thanks.

I still have yet to run across a usb 3.0 computer anywhere in the wild.

...yes but...

Umm why is Microsoft comparing hardware features of Macs vs Windows PCs? Last time I checked MS was a software company. These ads are an insult to the intelligence of anyone who knows the slightest bit about computers.

And guess what, Microsoft sells copies of windows to people who install it on Apple's hardware! Apple is just another hardware company like Dell, HP, Toshiba, or anyone else. They just happen to include their own OS.

On the surface, I agree with the statement that MS is a software company. However, let's follow this argument through for a sec...

Let's suppose that Mac wins the "war" and the tables are turned. At that point, why would anyone NEED to run Windows anymore? Therefore, MS has a lot at stake to keep the PC market viable and a lot to lose.

The bottom line is: competition is good. I prefer MS to remain the giant they are so my Macs stay virus free and more "Porsche" than "Ford".

My $.02

Blu-ray is one of Apple's top competitors. You can't expect Apple to support them.

For USB 3.0, I'd like it. Sure there might not be very many peripherals with it. But maybe some device makers are holding out until more computers have it. And I wouldn't be surprised if some computer manufacturers are waiting to put USB 3 in until there are more devices for it. This is one of those vicious cycle things.

For Blu-Ray, I'd like that, too. Maybe not to watch movies on, but for backup. I know I could buy an external Blu-Ray drive and backup that way. But why should I have to spend several hundred dollars extra for an external one? Plus, I don't fully trust cloud services / internet access enough for total backup. What if my internet access is interrupted? Plus, I have several hundred gigs of video. Backing up that much via the internet wold take the better part of a day at least, and cost me a lot of money a year for all that storage.

The better solution would be to let us soft RAID drives connected to the Airport Extreme.
