I just love how one of Microsoft's main arguments against Macs is that "Macs only come in white or silver."

WTF!?

-Don

Considering how livid people are over the white iPhone, do you not think color choice is important for some people? ;)

"Hassle-free files at work.
Apple's productivity suite file formats won't open in Microsoft Office on PCs. This can be a real hassle for Mac users sharing work documents with PC users."

Has microsoft forgotten that they make office for Mac? And before anyone says "yeah well macs come with iWork, not office", keep in mind pc's come with nothing. Maybe if you're lucky you get a free trial of office...

Windows 7 has no built in blu-ray player support.

*IF* you buy a blu-ray hardware, or it comes bundled with a laptop/desktop, you might get the OEM software player. But the OEM version will be a previous version of the software, that's not being maintained any-more, and will not have things like surround sound support. You'll need to buy a licence for the premium version to actually get full Blu-Ray playback.

If this is true, then Microsoft is telling people big lies.....

They don't want to get me a laptop that can fly the space shuttle.... do they realize how antiquated tech RUNS the space shuttle? My iPhone could run the space shuttle!

I don’t know about any of you guys but I seem to use maybe 4 or 5 keyboard shortcuts in windows, but I find myself using shortcuts constantly in OS X. Anybody else?

This must speak to the quality of Windows GUI. No need for short cuts. Everything can be done so easily.

For Blu-Ray, I'd like that, too. Maybe not to watch movies on, but for backup. I know I could buy an external Blu-Ray drive and backup that way.
Let's not forget application installations. The bloating of applications and games has led to a situation where DVDs are now where floppies were in the mid 90's and you had to sit through ejecting and inserting 5-10 disks.

As soon as Native Instruments Komplete 7 comes out, I'm going to buy and install it. It's 90 GB, so I guess there's enough DVDs to fill a room. It's gonna take a workday to install. This weekend I installed Logic and spent hours fiddling with the 9 DVDs (50 GB). It was a bigger "bag of hurt" than Blu-ray could ever be. Steve can dream about movie downloads all he wants, but the reality is that Apple still depends heavily on optical drives for software distribution, and hell will freeze over before Apple lets you download a 50 GB software bundle from their servers.

you get a free copy of iWork with a new mac? that's new to me...

...and they're [Apple] holding off Blu-ray in the hope that the magical bandwidth fairy will descend and give everyone terabit broadband.

:D

Someone who understands the basic flaw behind cloud computing for the consumer.

The secondary flaw, of course, is that cloud providers actually want money in return for storing your data in the cloud.

Amazon would charge $3600/year to upload and store a terabyte of data. Newegg will sell a 1 TB external drive for $75.

See the problem?

I find that it's just the opposite for me. Using the keyboard is (almost) always faster than using the mouse, and Windows presents many more ways to use the keyboard than OS X. (You need to enable it in the first place just to be able to use it in OS X.)

I'm not counting simple things like nearly system-wide shortcuts like Cmd+C or Cmd+A but rather things on Windows like Alt+underlined letter to "click" on a certain button in a dialog or bring focus to the appropriate control. Of course, I've also had the "privelege" of using Windows without a mouse, something that is marginally possible (especially in the Windows 3.1 days), where as OS X requires one in the first place (and I've only been using it for a bit over 5 years now), so maybe I just haven't discovered everything yet...

To a lot of people, "cheaper" means O/S is easier to pirate, plenty of pirate options for PC compare to MAC..

?? Apple's isn't stifled with the protection that Windows has. It's much easier with OSX since you don't have to deal with all the 'Genuine Windows' BS.

But I guess perception is everything.

oh microsoft...

this entire page talks about the features on windows 7. Never once does it indicate that windows 7 does anything better than the mac on those subjects. Apple is already taking over with iPads, iPods, and iPhones they already lead in popularity and sales. However with the macs they need to step it up. Its been 1 1/2 years since there last iLife and they are getting behind on it and Snow leopard which wasnt a huge update to beguin with. It seems like a long time for apple to leave these things be. There better be something big or its gonna be pitiful when microsoft can tell us that they really do do things better than apple. I can only beleive with no evedence that :apple: wont let us down (again)

Microsoft, for all their faults is working very hard on Windows.... Windows 8. If windows Mobile 7 is any indicator, I predict a slick and sexy new UI to go with the stability and flexibility Windows 7 already has.

What's Apple doing on the OSX platform?
Why not even a mention of OSX at WWDC?
Why all this hate from Steve Jobs for computers or as he calls them, "Trucks"?
Why did apple get rid of their 'Get a mac' campaign and replace it with...NOTHING?
Surely not everyone at Apple is working on the ipad and iphone?

You're way ahead for now Apple... but I wouldn't rest on your laurels.

you make a lot of good points here. i sure hope that apple is working hard the next OS X, if not OS XI.

Screw You Windows. If Bill Gates never stole Steve Job's design Mac would be the most popular computer in the world and PC's would fail! PC, you will keep on failing and maybe in 10 years have to stop this stupid company. Adding a PC VS. Mac section on your website was a bold move. And most of the stuff you posted was ********! **** you windows! And I don't give a damn if I get banned because of vulgar language, etc. Windows deserves this kind of hatred after what they did and are still doing now. Windows is truly the devil.

And if Steve Jobs didn't steal the ideas of Xerox, there would be no Macintosh. Like Steve-o says, and I quote:

“Good artists copy, great artists steal. And we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas.”

But honestly, who the hell cares. It's a computer, so take a deep breath, step away from the keyboard, and relax. lol

buzz at #Windows7 website on *PC vs Mac* tab is ****ing damn FAKE!! poor you Microsoft!!!

I use the keyboard more on both, if possible. But you need 3rd party software on either to make it truly useful. (they have both gotten better recently with some built-in capability) All those Windows shortcuts are random and different for every piece of software, AND hard to reach in most cases. Using 2 hands makes it not a 'shortcut'.

The statement "PCs are always ready, willing, and—most importantly—able to get down to business" (sic!) applies only to Linux machines and Hackintoshes. And writing itabout PCs as opposed to Macs, is nothing but pathetic. Talk about ignorance. :D

It is hard to call it stealing when Apple got a contract and wrote a check.

Indeed.

And if Steve Jobs didn't steal the ideas of Xerox, there would be no Macintosh.

You understand that Steve and company were actually invited to Xerox and told they could use the desktop metaphor, upon which they made very significant changes and improvements, which became the Macintosh OS.

No real "stealing" involved, Xerox's higher ups somehow didn't see the value in their engineers pet projects.

Anything by Gigabyte, ASUS, MSI, ASrock, BioStar, Zotac (etc etc) released in the last few months has USB3. Hundreds of PC boards with USB3 on them.

First of all that's simply not true. USB 3.0 is high-end to mid-range boards only and only slowly coming down to low-cost boards. Secondly, who gives a toss what retail mainboards can do or cannot do. Nobody build his own computer anymore. I'd like to know how many laptops or desktops I can buy in the next store round the block support USB 3.0. Not that many! Not until Intel includes it in its chipsets, which will be next year. And that's when all the Macs will get the feature too.

Until then, enjoy your tech toy about which hardly anyone apart from some geeks actually cares.

Or is that iLife? My bad. Either way, you have a choice. They make it seem as if iWork is the only choice on a Mac. When they themselves make office for Mac
