“man, they cant even make enough iPhones to meet demand and there are all these friendly, helpful people in the store. I guess they are probably gonna go out of business soon.”

Please reread your post and think about it. It truly makes no sense at all.

No, it made very much sense. You simply didn't understand it.

"You can't get a Mac with a Blu-ray player, TV tuner, Memory Stick reader, or built-in 3G wireless. PCs running Windows 7 often come with features that aren't available on even the highest end Macs, including Blu-ray, eSATA, multi-format card readers, Touch, and mobile broadband."
Macs have Memory Stick readers.
Built in 3G wireless? Don't really care.
TV tuner? Not a big deal to me.
Bluray? Yes, I would like that.

"Macs only come in white or silver. PCs are available in a full spectrum of colors across a range of price points."
*****, I've been using a godarn silver computer this whole time when I could've chosen from a whole rainbow of colors? Too bad I'm color blind, and I can't make out the difference.

"Windows 7 was designed to make it simpler to do the tasks you do every day, with features that the Mac doesn't have. For example, the new Snap feature makes it easy to view two documents side by side."
Wow, that's a great feature. Completely revolutionizes the way I look at my documents, even though, I can just preview both documents side by side on a mac...

"On a Mac, out of the box, you can only encrypt your home folder. With Windows 7 Ultimate, you can encrypt your entire hard drive and even USB drives. So your stuff can be safer wherever you go."
But a Mac doesn't get viruses?

"On a Mac, you have to manually set up photo sharing, manually set up music and movie sharing, manually set up file sharing, and manually set up printer sharing. It's easy to automatically and securely network with all the computers in your house when they're running Windows 7.
"

A one time click of the button really is a hassle.

I think I'll be switching now...

While these commercials were a little funny, overall, I didn't care for them. They made Mac users look snobbish. That's why I kinda liked the Microsoft "I'm a PC" commercials. Instead of saying what's wrong with the competition, they said what was good about themselves. With the Apple commercials, they point out why I shouldn't get Windows. But didn't show why I should get Apple. Maybe I would get Linux instead.

Let the flamewars from all the Apple fanbois begin.

No flames, but I will point out that you missed the same metaphor about those ads that Microsoft missed. The Mac ads were NEVER about the users of the OSes. The actors were portraying the OSes themselves. The metaphor was they were the OS, not the users of the OS.

Microsoft, being Microsoft, cluelessly missed that fact and created their answer: "I'm a PC" where actors portrayed users. Laughable.

No, the Apple ads were never snobbish about the users, but about Windows itself. I'm stunned that it's 2010 and people still miss the metaphor about the ads.

Screw You Windows. If Bill Gates never stole Steve Job's design Mac would be the most popular computer in the world and PC's would fail!

Before Mac and Windows stole from each other (and yes, even Apple took ideas from windows) they both got their ideas from Xerox.

"You're ripping us off!", Steve shouted, raising his voice even higher. "I trusted you, and now you're stealing from us!"

But Bill Gates just stood there coolly, looking Steve directly in the eye, before starting to speak in his squeaky voice.

"Well, Steve, I think there's more than one way of looking at it. I think it's more like we both had this rich neighbor named Xerox and I broke into his house to steal the TV set and found out that you had already stolen it."

Maybe there isn't a tsunami of USB 3.0 devices hitting the shelves right now, but do you remember the time when Apple used to be first with introducing stuff like USB, Firewire, DVI ports, DVD writers etc,

In none of these cases, Apple was the first (maybe except for Firewire, can't really remember). It usually took them at least 6-12 months to pick these technologies up, but once they did it, they embraced it entirely. That's why people get the idea that they were the first. They were the first who cut ties to the stuff that came before.

Funny thing is, no one will ever see this... Who the ***** visits the microsoft website? I highly doubt they sell computers there, in which case the computer buyers will likely NEVER see these "arguments". I'm sorry microsoft, but this is kinda retarded... If I were you, I would just put in a TV commercial outlining some of these stuff, I would welcome that heartily. Who knows, maybe apple will finally get their heads out of the ground and put some damn blu-ray drives into their computers!?!?! The "get a PC" commercial made apple cut most of its computer prices, who knows what this would do? Over all, this type of competition can really only help us :)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

PCs are designed for work and play, with features you need to get things done on the job or at school and have fun at home or on the go. From easily sharing Microsoft Office documents to watching HDTV and Blu-ray movies, PCs help you do it all.

SAY WHAT?

Microsoft just kicked Steve Jobs with the Blu-Ray. And what's this 'PC fun'?

I wonder who actually read the propaganda war.

Windows Media Center is worth every penny though. It sold me on Windows 7.

The statement "PCs are always ready, willing, and—most importantly—able to get down to business" (sic!) applies only to Linux machines and Hackintoshes. And writing itabout PCs as opposed to Macs, is nothing but pathetic. Talk about ignorance. :D

Actually, mine now boots and is ready to go just fine. It just crashes 1/3 of the time when closing down.

Smell the fear.

Here's the dealio with these types of ads: they worked for Apple because most people knew little or nothing about the Mac, but they already knew plenty about Windows (viruses, device driver conflicts, bloatware) from personal experience - and Apple made it a point to point out the painful, familiar truths.

Who, exactly, is Microsoft trying to fool with their own ads? Here's a newsflash, Microsoft: most the people you are talking to are already intimately familiar with your crappy products, that's why they are looking at Macs in increasing numbers. Your "just works" nonsense will strike anyone who has used Windows before (which is pretty much every person on the planet) as a laughable fabrication. It's amazing to watch MS continue to follow Apple's trail, step by duplicated step.

But hey, I'm sold. I'm off to the Microsoft Store to pick up my new non-silver-or-white-or-black Windows-based PC and watch the employees do the Electric Slide. It Just Works.

Microsoft: The Derivative People (TM)

Windows is dying, but it will take inertia many years before most people notice.

As much as it stinks, windows 7 has had record sales...

Windows isn't dying. Unfortunately.

As I've been telling my family members for years... if you don't understand the difference, you'll be much happier on a Mac. If you do understand the type of benefits that come from an open-platform approach to computers, you've already made up your mind.

Very true on both counts.

However, if all you want is a $299 computer for internet and emailing etc, and price is important, Mac isn't your choice, windows is.

A windows PCis more affordable in the up front costs.. viruses checkers are cheap these days and will still be less than an Apple. Apple cannot compete on costs alone, Apple have to compete on looks and functionality ( read: marketing ).

They actually pointed out a lot of problems that I had going to from Windows to Mac. Finding a replacement for programs I'm used to, or no replacements at all, things not being where you're used to, or even lack of customization and lack of hardware support. I'm sure some of the same would be true for someone going from Mac to PC, when their brains are hardwired for Macs. OSx will never equal Windows to me, since I can do pretty much whatever I want on Windows without thinking. And no I haven't used an anti virus since 2003, and have no idea how to modify that registry thing, which some Mac users think is something that Windows users have to do.

WTF? the first 2/3 of the 8th page look like this:
I refreshed and cleared my cache too, still looks like it.

Microsoft, for all their faults is working very hard on Windows.... Windows 8. If windows Mobile 7 is any indicator, I predict a slick and sexy new UI to go with the stability and flexibility Windows 7 already has.

What's Apple doing on the OSX platform?
Why not even a mention of OSX at WWDC?
Why all this hate from Steve Jobs for computers or as he calls them, "Trucks"?
Why did apple get rid of their 'Get a mac' campaign and replace it with...NOTHING?
Surely not everyone at Apple is working on the ipad and iphone?

You're way ahead for now Apple... but I wouldn't rest on your laurels.

Why the assumption they are resting? Apple has been showing developers some amazing things lately. There is do doubt they have some amazing things planned for 10.7. It is certainly easier to write great, bug free code with the new Xcode and LLVM-based compiler.

Do you think Apple actually says what they are doing in advance? We get 6 months at best for a partial feature list. Apple has a big advantage in this area too. Their OS is light weight. Development on the iPhone and iPad can be rolled back in to OS X and vise versa. The ability to run one OS essentially is what allowed them to steamroll over the entire cell phone industry. You can't imagine Windows 7 running on a cell phone for good reason. Apple's OS design and overall ecosystem allows them to make big changes internally without majorly breaking things. Microsoft may be doing better then they were, but while they are polishing and bug fixing, Apple is looking over the next horizon. Apple has been investing a lot in their core technology while Microsoft has been focused on polish.

The only place Apple seems to be resting is with OS X Server.

According to Robert Cringley, Steve Jobs paid Xerox Apple shares to get the invite to XeroxParc. Xerox management didn't have the vision to see the potential of their west coast division. Bill Gates, when confronted by Steve Jobs succinctly described Xerox as the neighbor who didn't care about his TV (XeroxParc technologies) and left his window open. By the time you got around (Jobs), someone else already took the TV.

You understand that Steve and company were actually invited to Xerox and told they could use the desktop metaphor, upon which they made very significant changes and improvements, which became the Macintosh OS.

No real "stealing" involved, Xerox's higher ups somehow didn't see the value in their engineers pet projects.

Relax man, if you don't like the way Apple is going go buy yourself a windows computer. Apples are not for just anyone. Besides, don't you keep up with the rumors? Apple opened a position to add some revolutionary new feature to their Mac OS:X software. keep an eye on your updates when it gets to around 10.6.7, thats when we start hearing some good stuff. What ever happened to my fellow die hard macheads? All we have now is a bunch of little pissy iPhone users.
