Why I would sell my Macbook pro for a ****** Windows, can anyone explain? I switched to Mac 2 years ago and I don't see any reason to switch back, alternatively, you can install Windows 10 via Boot Camp

Microsoft do not really need to worry about Mac users. PC's dominate globally, especially in the enterprise.

And who cars about the OEM's? They've been holding back on hardware for years & given users tiny incremental updates with new models. Surface brand is forcing OEM's to up their game. And what are the pissed off OEM's going to do if they don't make PC's? Make unprofitable ChromeBooks? Ha!

The stigma with PC is cheap price, cheap laptop. People are willing to pay for that. Why do you think the 110million windows 10 users within a few weeks number is something to gloat about? People want to pay next to nothing for a computer that can do their work fine and a windows pc is the #1 choice when it comes to cheap computers. OEMS and companies like acer, asus, dell they all make computers for every majority of buyers from fat wallets to no money left.

All of a sudden now you want windows pc laptops in this case to be priced at a premium? This is delusional - i'm gonna tell you now so you can come back and quote me these things will sell just like the SP3 but it will not be forcing any of those OEM manufacturers to stop doing what they do that is make cheap products that everyone is willing to buy at a cheap price.

This is not being elitist but I'd personally NEVER pay that much money for a PC laptop no matter how snazzy that new tech is.

I'm an OSX/iOS user and I can't imagine giving up my Macbook Air and iPhone anytime soon, but these generation of hardware from MS is the first compelling alternative that I've seen to Apple's products. Both the Surface 4 and Surface Book seem like better laptop replacements than any iPad, Pro included. MS has been far behind Apple for a while, but they have plenty of cash to spend and they've learned from their mistakes since Surface 1 launched just over 3 years ago. Changing operating systems is a big leap for people, but I think MS will gain many buyers with this new hardware that would have gone with Apple otherwise.

Great, so I'll buy a phone with "facial recognition" so someone can print off my Facebook profile picture and get into my phone.

And Microsoft apparently still hasn't learned that hybrids are only so-so at both the things they do. There's a reason Apple hasn't caved to the "pressure" to make one. It's because it's a terrible idea.

Time to step up your game, Micro$oft…
Oh where to begin. NO Windows Hello can not be fooled by your FB photo or any photo for that matter. This hybrid does not suffer from the typical hybrid issue because both sides are zero compromise. So not it's a fantastic idea.

As for Micro$oft ...come on grow up. You support the richest corp in the world.

don't think you understand how enterprise DSU's work. They are notoriously slow movers - with majority of large corps still stuck in the XP and Win7 world. The Surface Book has not been created for enterprise users in mind, they are targeting education, creative and personal computing - which is a more comparable space to Mac users.

That surface book is amazing. Microsoft really capturing the excitement. Hope Apple hits back!

I'm in the market for a new laptop. My 2010MBP has to give out sometime... right?

Keep in mind that in order to get the dGraphics, you need to spend a minimum of $1900. A fact MS didn't mention in the presentation.

with SP4 line of i7's not out till Nov 20th, I'll wait to see if rMBP next gen update is announced in the interim. If not, I think I might be spending my money on the SP4

Today's microsoft event -

For the first time in the history of these product events, Microsoft truly stood out - because each and every single one of those presenters on stage really gave a F* about their own products - enthusiastically un-modest and very, very happy to showcase their new tech. Some may think it's like a bad informercial like selling oxyclean but at least I did not feel like they were trying to rip me off like Phil Schiller does every time he opens his mouth - it's just marketing bullcrap. I really liked that purple hat guy he really was into his presentation.

Apple event makes me feel like wow, this year another trickle down feature handed to me because finally apple thinks i'm worthy and just enough of an upgrade to make me pull out my wallet (which I haven't done so for their phone lineup since iOS 7.0 debut). Apple events are really marketing hype and the microsoft event today really was cool.

The guy introducing the pen is like a dodgy geezer from the market trying to offload some crappy electronics. Very strange. Might try this out, but didn't like the surface 3 so not holding out too much hope.

Panos?? Are you kidding? He crushed it today. He actually spoke directly to the consumers. He showed us the cool stuff that differentiates these products. He was genuinely excited! He is a major reason this event was such a success and is flowing through the press with enthusiasm.

Unless of course this is less of a "dodgy geezer" in your eyes:

Yep, this is important. One of the major things that has hurt Windows through the years when it comes to the average non-techy customer (and something that probably annoys Microsoft on a massive scale) is the way OEMs loads lots of cr*pware on top of every Windows install.

This is more prevalent on the cheaper plastic computers that people for some reason compare to Macs 2-3 times the price than on more pricier hardware like Lenovo which gives a very different experience both on the hardware and software level.

So if I plug the display to the keyboard, it charges the display first? If the keyboard is out of battery, does it draw power from the display? Does windows indicate which one is out of battery? Many many questions have I:)

This will probably (my guess) work like the Battery Cover for SP 1 and SP 2 - which housed a battery in the keyboard. It charges the internal battery of the tablet first, and then charges the external battery. It draws power from the external battery first, and then the internal battery when no AC is present.

Looks like the Sleeping Giant has awoken.
But Apple's got an ace up its sleeve with iPad Pro 2. Now in Rose Gold.

The ace isn't the iPad pro 2 rose gold aka pink color - it's the fact they put in a 720p front camera in the iPad Pro 2 and tell you it's the same HD isight camera that's so epic used in every iOS device

microsoft has that mid 2000 apple vibe going on!
stoked for the surface pro 4....like why would you choose the ipad pro over this? its got all the pro apps already.
and pen is better than pencil lol

not sure id go for the surface book though, the retina mbp is still the gold standard.

No....it has all the PC apps...the lack of great tablet apps for Windows is still a huge problem. Same with Windows Phone.

If you want to use it like a laptop, sure, it has "all the pro apps already". But in that case - why not buy an actual laptop? Even MSFT knows this, and are promoting the Surface as an alternative to the Macbook Air. It's really not an iPad replacement. I could imagine owning both a Surface Pro and an iPad, but not a Surface Pro and a MacBook Pro.

No....it has all the PC apps...the lack of great tablet apps for Windows is still a huge problem. .

it's not though. a lot of the major 'pro' apps have tablet modes now.
like it or not, for 'pros', the full app with tablet mode beats scaled down tablet apps.

how nice would it be to work on lightroom and photoshop on your tablet, with the tablet form factor....not lightroom tablet edition...but lightroom.

that's the advantage.

if you were a pro, why waste time on the scaled down versions of apps.

And this announcement is relevant to Apple users how? (other than perhaps the obvious point that MS would rather roll out its own doomed hardware than work on the OS X version of Office...)

What are they going to do, go to OSX or Linux? Who cares if it pisses them off? I don't think it will, by the way.

My SP3 seems to run things (Adobe and Autodesk creative suites) pretty smoothly. And it's nice being able to just hand off files back and forth between it and my workstation. That's the biggest obstacle I see for the Ipad Pro.

And Windows is fine. That argument is tired.
We will be talking smooth after 1 more year and tell us how windows 11 will work on your sp3after months of mess up the registry
