Funny - some of what you refer to is hardware, not windows itself.

Viruses are much overblown on these forums.

Ads / spyware - not really an issue. Again overblown.

You can get perfectly good anti malware apps for free.

Microsoft is adding continuity to windows 10 for android. Mac OS only supports iOS.

Not really. I got infected browsing to legitimate sites that had their ads infected. With Windows, not only do you need antivirus, but also an ad-blocker these days for security. I hate blocking ads and cut their revenue off, but I need to do that for security reasons.

And Windows 10's built in antivirus is just as good as anything else - as in you cannot and should not rely an any AV software to keep your system 100% clean. Practice safe habits and you will be fine on either platform. But I do need an ad-blocker on Windows these days and I have not run into any issues on the Mac yet without an ad-blocker.

What's so innovative?

It has VASTLY inferior I/O to even the 13" MBP, and nevermind the 15". You can get those 2 USB 3.1 Connectors and SD Card slot for around $15 on Amazon all day long. And then the 13" MBP will STILL have 20 Gbps of I/O Bandwidth available, and the 15" MBP will STILL have 60 Gbps of I/O bandwidth available.

SurfaceBook: Proprietary Dock Connector that adds $200 to the price. MBP: Industry-Standard USB-C/TB 3 Ports that can connect to a wide variety of "Docks". MBP suits a MUCH larger "Application Envelope".

Not to mention the fact that, although the Nvidia GPUs are somewhat faster than the AMD GPUs used in the MBP, they do not have nearly the same External Display-Driving ability as the AMDs (which is why Apple chose them).

I don't for one second believe their 17 hour battery life, unless 8 of those hours are spent with the screen so dim you can't read it except in a pitch-black room.

MBP still has the fastest SSD on the market BY FAR.

MBP can still have a TouchBar. Laugh if you will; but most people that have them, think they are pretty cool.

Windows OS. 'Nuff said.

No, it isn't. And I use both every single day.

Guess a Porsche is "somewhat" faster than a truck.....

I have an SP2 and SP3. Did not need to try SP4 and the SB 1 to find that they had many problems.

If you compare what Panos says and how it is actually using the thing, you will notice a lot of half truths ... aka lies about the product.

Hopefully this one will offer a far more robust experience and not be money down the toilet of frustration.

Cheers.

I do photo and video editing and illustration. I also do a lot of music/audio production. These are significantly faster (and some features I use aren’t even available in any comparable Android device/App).

If you are trying to do video editing and production on a smartphone, then by all means go for it! I would never try to do that on a phone, and don't see it as a common use case. I do a lot of photography work, but little to no video. I currently possess 2 devices. A Note 8 and a Surface Pro. For my requirements, they cover 100% of my needs. They are portable enough that I have them with me when I'm working. I was at a volleyball tournament all weekend and my Surface Pro was in the camera bag.

What's so innovative?

Providing the function of a Macbook Pro and iPad Pro in one device.

Oh look. A decently portable and well made laptop with a powerful cpu and gpu and usb type A + type c and a sd card slot. This this is so much more "pro" than any Apple Laptop.

Can you yank the screen off your MacBook Pro, pull out your Apple Pencil, and and use it as a tablet?

As a "Pro"fessional in the consulting space, I find the ability go back and forth from tablet to laptop on the same device to be incredibly valuable. I use it daily. Apple has nothing that does this. So yes... it is "much much more pro than Apple" in that regard.

So you haven't used three generations of products that you claim to be an expert on. Wow, you are brilliant.

As for your statements, they are completely false. Microsoft has one of the best return policies on the planet, so if they truly didn't work for you, you could have returned them and not thrown any money down the toilet.

I hope it's getting better, but I've bought several Surface products and got rid of each one. In every case, their attempt at being both tablet and laptop compromised both jobs. I REALLY wanted the Surface Pro 4 to be a solution to my needs but the lousy I/O, silly dock connector, and horrendous display scaling made it a loser. The Dell XPS13 was better in form factor, but absolutely nothing worked properly on it and I gave up trying to get an external display to work evern marginally with it.

But then my TB MBP never endeared itself to me, but had I waited for 2017 bought a 13, I think it would have been great.
Balance and comfort while holding it and walking around is crucial as I use my laptop for field work that is always in weird locations. the Surface products are awful when it comes to balance.

Fortunately, I have found the X1Carbon to be the perfect solution, though I do wish it had the 3:2 screen of the Surface stuff. I would still prefer a lower resolution screen since Win10 still does not deal with hi-res very well, however it is getting much better at it. I still cant drag stuff from 1080P to 4K screens without scaling issues with all apps. OSX has always done this flawlessly.

... that Start Menu Tiles you see almost 100 times daily vs something you don't require in macOS (menu bar clock shows the time).
i--and many windows users--never use the start menu. I just keep all my apps pinned to the menu bar. Its very simillar to the mac dock scaled to its smallest size with animation turned off. I personally think when the two os's are set up intelligently they almost indistinguishable.

I prefer windows browser over finder, and the windows windowing style--which recapitulates the software menus on the top of each window. This is hugely more intuitive for multi window use on large or multiple monitors.

And yes--the windows taskbar shows the time date!

In Windows I just hit the Windows key and type, in OSX I cmd+space and type, in Linux I control+space and type..so yuppers :)

Looks to me like the same price as their MBP counterparts. Does that mean we can stop bitching about Apple's prices being too high?

Sure, if we ignore the fact that you get twice the power and more than 1,5 times the battery and and and and whatever else they promise at "the same price"? Just the battery life on that thing makes me reconsider once again. My rMBP2013 finally seems to have come to the end of it's life. It's shutting down randomly and I can't have that from a work machine. I've gone through 3 2016-2017 macbook pros and always returned them. I was getting ready to give up but I guess I'll just get surfacebook 2 after all. I can live with it although I'll miss macOS. Then again, maybe I'll just test drive the keyboard and touchpad first. It could be even worse than the MBP one.

I haven't run into any such issues with windows 10, nor did I with any version of windows I've used. Ever.

YMMV.

Anyway, how are you sure which site you got infected with? There is probably more to this than what you've said....

Don't forget the pen capability makes it much more pro than any mac as well. :D

Microsoft consistently gives battery life estimates that are on the high side, so keep that in mind. Their published battery life for Surface Pro is 13.5 hours of video playback. I get about 9 hours of use time doing real work, which is a mixture of web, office suite, email, pen based note taking, etc.. I am sure there is a set of conditions you could reproduce what they quote, but its not my normal work profile. They are consistent with this, so use that as a guide.

Bought 3 Surface devices (SP3, SP4 and Surface Book) and returned all 3 after my hardware and software issues became too frustrating and outweighed the positives. I wanted to love these devices as much as possible, but the lineup is just too unreliable in my opinion.

Fooled 3 times, shame on me. Won’t get fooled again. #surfaceno

Well, if you understood how to use the proper tense of a word we'd take this comment more seriously.

Well, if a tense of a word is more important to you than a point, bravo for you.
Enjoy your forum spell-checking time.

The Surface Book 2 is not a Porsche when compared to a MBP.
Well it certainly has the better hardware and features than the MBP. Even several people have said they are considering ditching their MBP for this device. So what kind of car would the surface 2 be then? And what of car would the MBP be in relation?
