So you used your iPad to Remote Desktop into a real computer to get work done? Do you not see the irony there?

With my Surface Pro I can pop it open, do work with local files and they sync when there is a network available with OneDrive. And do all that stuff right from my device. I can also RDP back to my Windows machine or network too. It's a much better work device than any iPad.

I think he's just saying it's a great companion device. Obviously, everyone is different when it comes to whether or not they can use an iPad as their primary.

OneDrive works with the iPad, too. Office for iPad is pretty good. It could be better, but that’s up to Microsoft. Pages, Numbers, and Keynote have feature parity with the macOS versions.

I would never consider a Surface (love my iPad Pro) but speaking to the ad itself - it fails for me. That child's voice is extremely annoying.

Too bad that is completely untrue. If your W10 computer is an unreliable disaster, it's all on you. You either bought a piece of crap computer to begin with, or you downloading too many "free" things from the internet.

The truth is, W10 is one of the best, most reliable versions of Windows 10. But, feel free to post links to mainstream IT sites who say W10 is a disaster. I'd be interested in what I must be doing right for my clients who have completely a trouble-free W10 experience. As a matter of fact, one client that is mixed Mac and Windows, the Mac users have far more issues than the Windows users. Far more.
HOW many links to "Microsoft Pulled <x> Windows 10 Update"... Do you want me to post?

...And that was from just the first half page of one Google Results page.

Isn’t Azure itself running Windows server products on the back end though? Windows is still relevant somewhere though.
Sure, Microsoft will use its own software as a base, but the point is that they aren't as focused on selling Windows. It's toward the end of its cash cow status. Office 365 is in cash cow status. Azure is their growth model.

OneDrive works with the iPad, too. Office for iPad is pretty good. It could be better, but that’s up to Microsoft. Pages, Numbers, and Keynote have feature parity with the macOS versions.
True on OneDrive but it's not nearly as good of an experience as it is on Windows or OS X.

Nice selection of articles. I did not have any of those problems on all 5 of my win10 machines. My wife did not have any of those problems on her win10 work laptop. Very small percentage of people having those problems out of the 400,000,000 computers running win10. Now, would you like me to give you a list of links to articles of the number of problems Mac users are having with both the OS and the hardware? They are plenty.

Don't have time for a more comprehensive list, but here is just a few of the 100's to choose from on a simple Google search. I did not include iOS software and hardware problems, but there are plenty of those as well. Time to prepare dinner here on the East coast, but no fear...I'll be back to continue this later.

My Truck is a real truck because it can carry more stuff. Done!

Your truck is a motor vehicle. So are: Winnebagos, Compact hybrids, and motor cycles. If you need to haul lumber, use your truck. If you want to take the family to Wally World, rent a Winnebago. If you need economy transportation for everyday commuting and around town driving, buy a hybrid or motor cycle. There are suburban Joes driving around town in giant 4 wheel drive trucks burning fuel while they try to wedge into impossibly small parking spaces just to impress their friends and maybe haul some junk to the dump once per year.

A truck does not necessarily carry more stuff. It depends on what you want to transport. If you want to drive 4 people to the beach and put your food and drinks in the trunk, you might find that the hybrid has more capacity for that job than a two seater truck with a long bed.

All of the above applies to computing devices. Pick the right one to do the job. Don't worry if people can't understand that a device with a Bionic A12X chip (billions of transistors and performs over trillion operations per second) is a computer. It matters not.

Totally a "Deep Pockets" b.s. lawsuit. Almost NO laptops and All-In-Ones have filters. Filters are a double-edged sword, causing more problems than they solve when people neglect to clean them (which is everybody, all the time). AGAIN with the Keyboard issue?!? Jeezoid, guy!!!

SO, Total "Issues", not including DUPES: Three Mac issues, one iPhone issue:

1. A supplier-issue with the SSD modules (Toshiba makes them). Not Apple's fault. Can and has happened to other OEMs.

2. Contract Manufacturing or Component Supplier issue with the iPhone Display "touch" issue. Not Apple's fault. NO ONE QCs every single unit, sorry! Can and has happened to other OEMs.

3. Keyboard issues on MacBook Pro. This one has some merit; but Apple has made significant improvements. Would like to know if the new MBA keyboards suffer the same fate.

4. "Filter" Lawsuit. Just silly.

I can read fairly fast... ;)

Not sure who 'they' are you are referring to who are calling an iPad a companion computer. But even if I was to grant you that most professionals have both an iPad and a traditional computer (like myself), so what?
There are two groups of people, some call the iPad a computer, and some that say it is not a real computer.
Its obvious that the iPad is a computer, but those calling the iPad not a real computer are also correct.
Nothing wrong with both sides being correct, it all down to perspective.

This doesn't make a ton of sense to me. The iPad is computer, the same as the iPhone or the Mac Pro. Different computers for different people, tasks, and situations - that's the only difference. For some, they need a Mac Pro to accomplish a task that a MacBook can't do very well. Does that make the MacBook not a computer? Same idea. The iPad is just another alternative computer available. The whole idea that the iPad isn't a real computer only comes from those that are holding onto their dying desktop paradigm for dear life and don't want to consider any alternatives.

People call lots of things by different names, I think it is acceptable for people to call an iPad not a real computer.
But do understand that they are really talking about a traditional computer like you say. But to them it is not a real computer.

I think it's a jealousy/envy thing, to be honest. They see their traditional PC world shrinking and want to put down anything different. Everyone has their right to call a device whatever they want, but it's pretty ignorant.

I think that is his point. If the traditional base line is a desktop/laptop computer and the iPad can only satisfy a subset of a desktop/laptop, then people generally won’t consider it a real computer.

A real computer in this context means something that can replace feature parity with the traditional sense of a desktop/laptop computer

I don’t think it’s jealous or envy. It’s a common (mis)conception that a computer was a desktop/workstation.

Of course if you take the definition, then computers are everywhere (Casio watch, appliances, etc). I think debating terminology with disregard of societal conceptions will lead you down this path

Which goes back to my original point - it all depends on the individual, task, and situation. An iPad has replaced a MacBook for me, feature for feature, completely. So an iPad is a computer for me, but people can't accept that because it's not for them? I just think it's a dumb naive mentality to say "because it can't work for me, it can't be a real computer." People are desperate to hold onto this old desktop paradigm that they completely ignore anything that doesn't fit into their specific needs. I am not oblivious to the fact that laptops, desktops, and all traditional PC's are still completely viable and the best tool for the job for a lot of people and situations. This dumb recurring argument would be like me saying those aren't real computers because they can't do some tasks as well as an iPad can. It's very short sighted.

Question for you.
If someone was in your house and was looking for something in your kitchen that you'd left on top of your microwave oven and you'd told them it was on the cooker, would you expect them to question your description or just come back and say, 'Yeah, found it'?

All people accept that the iPad is a computer for you. Now you still have to accept that it is not a computer for all people.

Not at all. If all you ever did on your MacBook was adding/subtracting and multiplication/division I still very strongly suspect that you would still call the calculator you replaced your Mac with, a calculator.

I can't say, I don't know what a cooker is.

All people accept that the iPad is a computer for you. Now you still have to accept that it is not a computer for all people.

I 100% do, I even said so just a little bit down in the exact post you quoted - "I am not oblivious to the fact that laptops, desktops, and all traditional PC's are still completely viable and the best tool for the job for a lot of people and situations."

Not at all. If all you ever did on your MacBook was adding/subtracting and multiplication/division I still very strongly suspect that you would still call the calculator you replaced your Mac with, a calculator.

You can try to diminish what I need a computer for all you want. Here is an excerpt from when someone asked what I use my iPad for daily. If you don't feel that these tasks equate to what a "computer" is needed for, then so be it.

Nope, I sold my MacBook and went iOS/iPad only as my primary computer about 3 years ago. I am in an executive level position for a logistics brokerage. I use my iPad mainly for email, performance dashboard management (Safari/Excel), talent management (Safari), drafting proposals for clients (Word), FaceTime meetings with my virtual team, creating presentations (Powerpoint), sharing and collaborating on documents with my team (Office 365, OneDrive, Dropbox, Documents, or Files app), and financial reporting management (Excel). At home, I am a heavy user as well. I use my iPad for web browsing (Safari), movies (Plex, Tubi, Netflix), music (Apple Music), TV (Netflix, Playstation Vue), FaceTime with family and friends, photo management (Photos), server management (QNAP) for Plex and HomeBridge, fantasy football, reddit, Apple News, stuff like that. The iPad has been my favorite computer by far (10.5 and now 11).
