How about a bad idea for Microsoft? Again, all the reasons are spelled out in this thread (along with plenty of rants pro and con) if you care to read them.
Like you care about MS making a bad decision. Please stop right there before it's too late.

I still don't understand the reasoning to drag discussions into who's the fanboy or hunt the astroturfer then.Is that what I said?
Strawmen fail. And you're trying to elicit an emotional response from me...or something.![]()

Oh right, I guess Microsoft will be giving jobs back to the 5,000 people they laid off this year, right? Yeah, thats what I thought.Your response was quite emotional, and not too well thought out. Please try again.
P.S. Did you read the part about creating jobs in a bad economy? Or are you on auto-response?
Then the Apple brick stores should have failed since you can also buy Apple products at Bestbuy, Sears (at one time) Microcenter.
I still don't understand the reasoning to drag discussions into who's the fanboy or hunt the astroturfer then.
Nope, I say bring on the Microsoft Stores. It will be an entertaining spectacle.
But to deny they're somehow not a carbon-copy clone of the Apple Stores (yes, even though other stores did pre-date the Apple Store *gasp*) is simply ignorant.
Enjoy your Microsoft Store shopping experience.
OK so MS copied the Apple Store. Now what? You life has been changed forever? What's the big deal? Defending a "Product Manufacturer" in such an emotional way needs some serous attention. Get yourself some help.
Why the astroturf comment then?Because these forums are recently being wrecked by these folks (not talking about lex750 in this particular instance).
Outrageous comments are easy to spot. It's just when nearly everything else gets lumped in with it as well."Only brainwashed morons with an obsession with fellating Steve Jobs buy Apple crap." - MacRumors troll
*total pandemonium ensues*
I'm not sure how this is healthy - or even tolerable.
A lot of "rational criticism" about Apple isn't really rational. It's often nonsensical (Psystar, netbooks, licensing out OS X.)
Fact is Apple has done nearly EVERYTHING right since 2006, and has shown signs of "Apple knows best" in 2001.
A lot of the criticism against Apple is unfounded. And besides, Apple usually goes on to prove the critics wrong every time.
Not necessarily. They want something compatible with their current PC, which is possibly all they could afford at the time, and/or are simply using what everyone else is using (Windows being the de facto choice whether they like it or not.)
I still can't figure out how there is such a thing as a "Microsoft fan." What exactly is there worth being a fan of?? Office? The Intellimouse Explorer? MSN? It's like being a fan of drywall.
Apple fans, on the other hand . . . you can understand the reasons. They are apparent.
I'm not sure I'm as obsessed with this particular topic as you are...![]()
MS retail stores are going to create jobs for people who need them. So who cares if it's a bad idea or not. Can you at least see ONE positive thing in all of this?
You seem to think I'm outraged by the thought of Microsoft stores. I'm not. Amused perhaps. Hardly surprised. It's a classic play from the Microsoft playbook - find out what someone else is doing successfully and do that. To see their plans so clearly ape the Apple Stores just adds to the entertainment value.
Me, I couldn't care less that a Microsoft store appear in my local mall. I would be willing to wager that that store won't be there in 2012, however.
But that's just logic talking.

Competition is good for the consumer. Take the "Laptop Hunters" ads. Apple drops prices a bit on their hardware. Not a good thing? The MS retail stores will also bring on more competition and more price drops. That's good for you and me. Don't you think?
Of course competition is a good thing. That doesn't mean that Microsoft's stores are going to be successful or a good idea for Microsoft. Because I believe 1) they aren't, and 2) it is.
Only time will tell, of course. Let's talk about this again in a couple of years on the "Microsoft Closes Retail Stores" thread.![]()

The MS retail stores will be successful in some way even if they are short lived. Just like the "Laptop Hunter" ads. MS has money to burn, do you really think they "need" retail stores? No. It will be very interesting to see Apple's response, and they will respond.
Maybe I'll see you in a few years at the "Apple Falls Of The High Horse"... thread...![]()
I think there is a need: No store that I can think of has a good demo of a windows pc, media center, xbox 360, media center extenders all working together in a home setting...
So you expect it to be a demo store that pimps Geek Squad style $100/hour in-home setup of this crap?

Why is your answer so irrelevant to his post? Another emotional response that makes no sense to me.![]()
