I believe it has an HDMI in for things like freeview boxes. I'm not sure how it will work and I'm sure quality will be hugely variable depending on what unit you connect but I'm hoping it will be fairly simple to record the incoming HDMI signal for later playback! Plus it would allow me to have 3 HDMI devices connected to my monitor at a time. :p

would need to get my wallet out and spend more :(

my freeview box is over 10 years old and only has scart output

recording from the input would be good if it can do this

If they revamped halo I would buy it on day 1.

The first Xbox had in my opinion the best halo. The kind of halo that was fun to play in dorm rooms with your college buddies.

On the 360 halo was turned into a 12 year old experience and then refreshed to be like cod.

He'll even if they rereleased halo ce in its entirety without just porting the multiplayer I'd buy it.

But I think a lot of franchises have been a bit disappointing in the past few years so only time will tell.

I think the features were impressive but it would have been more impressive to show off a game and then give those features a backseat. Because hopefully we will see a huge leap in game design (I mean the jump from 512 to 8 gb!). I would really like to see games incorporate more online players. For instance halo has been at 16 since 2001.

Ah that's annoying. I bought one recently on eBay or amazon (can't remember) which was only 20 quid and is DVB-T2 so you can get all the HD channels. Doesn't record or anything and the guide is a little frustrating but if you're looking for something cheap and cheerful with HD capability it's great.

Let me see if I can find it...

EDIT: Blaah can't find it and I'm not at home so can't look. I'm almost certain it's a Technika branded one and they have a few models which look like they do much the same thing as mine. If you're really interested PM me and remind me to let you know the model number later.

Sounds good, Cheers

keep meaning to look for a cheap HD box, but then forget about it

Wow, 12 pages so far of this garbage. If MS were stupid enough to go the Apple design route and make it skinny and crippled, you'd all be screaming at them for copying apple's design.

Instead they come up with their own design, and you're so high on Apple's kool-aid all you can do is ignore the product and insult the look. It's not a bad look, just clearly not stolen from apple. It really is impossible to win with you people.

No wonder people laugh at apple users.

Now cool your jets. A very small population of people laugh at a very small population of Apple users and it is usually on the Windows forums, so relax.

I never once remarked on the design, I was quite thrilled and still am to see that this will basically blow the ATV out of the water for me. It does what I want it to do and plays my games. My biggest concern is the used game fee, I'm not sure if that's official yet. I'm not jumping right away, but when it is time to replace or when I get the upgrade bug (and it is possible with the wallet) then I will grab one. I'm not exactly sad about the design. It's simple and fits in well with my other components. I'd be bummed if it were all kinds of Alienware-like. I'm too ****ing old for neon lights.

OTOH, the main reason for not moving to the new console right away will be that it won't play my 360 games. This will be something that will hinder an upgrade in my house for a while. I will take advantage of people selling off 360 games that I never took time to play for cheap though. :D

Image search is my friend. I believe it was the Technika STBHDV2010 sold by Tesco.

Can't find it for sale anywhere but there seem to be equivalent models such as STBHDH2010 or STBHDIS2010 for less than £50. Good luck!

Thanks, off to do a bit of checking now

Who cares what it looks like?

It's all about what the games look like.

Hopefully it looks better than the ps3. That thing was ugly ! One side taller than the other, it just looks weird when standing on its side.

But people don't buy game consoles to look at them, we buy them to play games.

I'm willing to bet the ps4 is even more overpriced than the ps3 s at released.

600 bucks is too much for a console, period.

I personally like the look of the XBO but seriously I quit from console gaming. Both Sony and MS have gone past the point of a traditional gaming device. Sony wants to integrate the PS4 with social this and that and MS is trying their version of it but adding the Kinect.

My concern is the data that could be collected with the Kinect. I read that the Kinect will be used for licensing. So if you want to watch a movie with a couple of friends the Kinect will add up the bodies and tell you that you'll need to pony up some more doe for the movie to start.

I think the Kinect will also be used as a sort of face recognition for it's games licensing as well. I just want to play games damn it. I don't want to jump thru more hoops to prove to a machine i'm the one who purchased the game and the $60 per game has gotten old.

So it's back to the future for me. Back to playing games on my PC hooked up to my HDTV.

You seem to be one of the few people who thinks the way I do, so I'm not sure why you started by defending the blind apple fanatics.

I don't care all that much what the box looks like as long as it gets the job done. The new xbox is simple and functional, the look has a simple charm. What more do you need in a console?

The used game fee will be a deal breaker for me, so I'm actually not too interested in xbox news and not getting my hopes up. It's just amazing the people here who can take a quick look at the box and decide they hate it. No wonder the iPhone 5 was such a hit.

Always been an Xbox fan and will continue w/ this!
Don't really care about TV as I don't watch that much and my current STB is good enough.

It has a Blu-ray drive. I'm in.

I have been trying to hold off buying a Blu-ray player for a long time now because it was almost guaranteed that the One would have one (that and the fact I like a very minimal TV setup with as few boxes as possible).

Xbox One vs. Apple Television?

Will this spur Apple to make a significant play for the TV space? If the Xbox One works as well as advertised, Apple will have a much tougher sell to try and dominate the living room. Even with Siri integration, Apple doesn't play nice with networks so getting live TV and making concessions that Microsoft probably did don't seem likely.

I'm with you on the $60 games. As for the rest, I'm hoping that's just you being comically sarcastic. If it's not... wow. If the Kinect is that much of a concern just turn it around.

Not so much of a defense as it was me remarking on how you approached the "blind apple fanatics" with such vigor and generalizations. Even still, it is clear we agree, enough. If it looked like a Mac Mini or something along those lines then some people would **** themselves, you are right on that. Either way, I want a console that doesn't ostracize my current game library but gives me the opportunity to move forward with technology. I don't feel as though this console will give that to me. I realize the 360 is some 8 years old or something like that, but I've had two 360s, the first gen that was later given away and the last revision that I still have and have had since 12/2011.

Point is, I'm not ready to rebuy the games I play now so I can have the newest features. Perhaps when I finish a couple of games and retire from my season in Madden I will think more seriously.

This is why it would have been great for Microsoft to have "perfected" a cloud play solution so you could register your 360 games and play them streamed from the cloud from the new device.

I agree with all that says it doesn't look good. I'll have to find a new hobby now that sitting for hours on end looking at the equipment is not appealing anymore...

I'm confused. Are you saying that your hobby was looking at equipment?

To each his own. Personally, I've never played a game, watched Netflix, ESPN, UFC, etc. while staring at the 360. I have stared at the TV thou.

Hadn't thought about that at all. That would have been real nice.

Indeed. I get that devices can't always be backwards compatible because of new tech/architecture - but it seems that if they could have perfected a cloud play - then they wouldn't need to worry about local hardware.

Perhaps cost prohibitive. But I bet that a lot of people would have paid for the service so they could upgrade to the new tech and still have the compatibility.

hopefully we see something like this at E3, apparently they are holding back on a lot of the gaming side stuff until then

so far though, I can definitely see myself purchasing one of these this holiday season

Unfortunately, the Wii U looks more and more like a Dreamcast 2, introduced a few months before two mighty competitors entered the market and crushed it.

The only thing helping Wii U sales is probably a steep price drop once the PS4 and XBox One are out, a price cut also got 3DS sales up again.

But the Wii U tablet probably costs them quite a bit to manufacture, so they can't lower prices enough (?).

Nintendo looks between a rock (Desktop/living room competition from Sony and Microsoft) and a hard place (Mobile competition from Android and Apple).

I wish Nintendo the best because I love their 1st party games but I just cannot see how the Wii U will take off

also man the Dreamcast brings back some memories

Darn you Microsoft. I was all set to get the PS4, and now I think I have changed my mind. The TV functionality and the added features to the controller (trigger vibrations...sweeeet). Also Sony kept the uncomfortable location of the thumb sticks, but do like the touchpad possibilities.
