The 8th generation has arrived!

Well... Almost!

Nice, great news, and I'm gadfly alt the improved kinect. The original worked great, but i always wondered why so many idiots in front of the Microsoft store never could get it to work!

I need to get ready to drop some money on a preorder so I can put it on eBay.

Totally glad they went with a neutral 80's VCR design. It matches everything else in the living room, unlike the last 2 generations of Xboxes, which stuck out like some goofy nerdy object.

low-key is best, especially as the market expands to places you wouldn't normally see video games.

There are definitely some cool features but I think the console is very ugly. I definitely would like to get the PS4 over the Xbox One, but I guess I have to do whatever all my friends do. Hopefully they like the PS4 better as well!

Serious question tho, why are people so butthurt on what it looks like? Its gonna be sitting on one of the tv stand shelves, with your PVR box, receiver etc. Its nopt like your lugging iot around with you like your phone or tablet, or even your notebook.

Some apple fanboys just hate everything but Apple, for the sake of hating. OPEN YOUR EYES. Apple is not the end all be all. There are other companies do that do tech, some better, some worse. But to write off the Xbox One even before its even sold is laughable.

MSFT took a huge gamble with making consoles in the Original Xbox in the first place, and look at them now. 24 million Original Xboxs, and 77 million Xbox 360's and counting.
And why are people even comparing an Xbox to an Apple TV anyways? How can you compare those 2 anyways? And Xbox is dominiating in sales, 77 million since 2005 of the Xbox 360, compared to about 10 million for all Apple TV's combinbed.

You're joking, right?

The Xbox has Live, the great tv integration, and updated kinect. I guess it ultimately comes down to the types of games you play, but to me its no contest based on both unveilings so far.
It also prevents people from playing used games and rental games, or to lend games to your friends.
It also requires an always on Internet connection, and if the Xbox 360 is any indication, the TV integration and online services stuff will only work if you live in the US.
Also, dumbest name since the Wii U. I can just see the eBay scams now, with thousands of "Xbox 1" showing up 6 months ahead of its release.

Because you buy a gaming console to look at it, not the TV.

What do you expect Microsoft to do to make it look better? Make it even larger just to smooth out the corners more? Or perhaps get rid of the cooling system to make it thinner?

I guess I would have to see the games to really be able to judge whether I want this thing or not. As neat as the voice and kinnect commands are, it's not something I feel I need, or would ever really use. I already run an HTPC which stores everything we watch and easily streams to any room in the house. It is ultra low power consumption, and was likely cheaper than this thing is going to be, not to mention absolutely silent (largely due to the low power consumption). Also, a huge factor is, an HTPC runs a "real" OS. That is to say, full fledged Windows, or Linux, or whatever I want. The advantage there is I can install whatever I fancy on the thing. I can only assume the Xbox One won't allow this.

This thing isn't bad though. It's essentially an HTPC (as close as the market can get right now what with licensing, etc.) that is prebuilt and thus able to get into the average consumer's hands, which is a big plus for the company.

As far as the design, it fits completely with Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 Metro designs. I can understand people not liking it (after all, we are all entitled to our own opinion, right?), but I can see why MS went in this direction.

Actually it won't play 360 games... But when used One games become available, it will play them. It is also not always on. Those were rumors they've debunked in the past 24 hrs... Sorry.

Will it have the same faulty thermal design as the 360 that leads to failure after a few years?

No thanks, Microsoft, I'll pass.

I love everything about Xbox except for its reliability and the way customer support treats you when it does eventually fail.

One thing that really blew me away is the voice command thing especially the "On" and "TV" thing. I wondered if that's the same "strategic" that Apple is supposed to announce with ATV or TV.

Keep it up MS!

When is the AppleTV with voice command coming out?
... Oh, it's just a rumor still.

When is the XBox One coming out?
By the end of the year (likely in time for Christmas for obvious reasons).

The 360's overheating issues are well gone. Yes there was a serious issue when it was first released but i had mine swapped out 5 times, no questions asked. The service was really good tbh. Im sure Microsoft learned form their mistake as the ONE looks to be very well ventilated.

I had a 2nd gen Xbox, I believe (before they got skinny) and I can tell you that heat was a problem. Of course, technical issues aren't a big deal if a company will stand behind it. But when mine failed, Microsoft wanted $120 to fix it, plus to keep my Xbox for 12 weeks while they fixed.

Of course, that's 12 weeks during which I'm still paying for Xbox live, which is completely absurd.

Like I said, I love the system. Their customer service is horrendous.

Not only did I not pay the $120, but I also charged back all of the games I had purchased and not finished, plus the balance of my XBL membership. In total it was greater than the $120 they wanted to fix it.

I watched my friend play it for a while on his PS3, and there wasn't any lag.

Bethesda are renowned for their shoddy PS3 ports, the Cell architecture is apparently challenging to develop for, being completely different, whereas apparently developing for 360 is remarkably similar to PC according to Valve.

Geometry fail.

Please stop responding to this comment, it's a joke that's been on the internet since the 360 launched. Once you see an Xbox 360, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away. The whole point of it is to goad people into responding to it with a correction, if people keep falling for it peopl will keep spouting it.

But it requires a fee to play used games. That is probably what he is aiming his point at. And in some interviews they said it has to check in online every 24 hours at least. And the option to make a game have an always on connection is an option added in for developers and we can bet EA will fully do that with how they are.

Yeah, we've known that for at least a year, since we heard the first info about the Durango architecture. Never said that the new console will be backward compatible.
But when used One games become available, it will play them.
If you pay a fee for each game you bought used.

From the Xbox One FAQ "Xbox One does not have to be always connected, but it does require a connection to the Internet."
Since the box has to ping home to check you're not playing an unauthorized copy (used, rental) of the game, this basically requires that it's connected at least when you want to install a new game, save your progress, and so on...

Required Internet connection: Every gaming sites, based on the Xbox One FAQ and the actual event.

Restrictions on used / rented games: That's what Microsoft said first (see first link below) and then retracted a few hours later. Now they're hiding themselves behind marketing speak (see second link) and we don't know anything. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess why.

No backward compatibility. Already confirmed by The Verge.

XBOX 360 is PPC and the One is x86.
PPC emulation would not produce a quality experience, so they decided against it.

Neither PS4 nor Xbox One have backward compatibility (at ship at least)...so no advantage there for either console.

I agree with all that says it doesn't look good. I'll have to find a new hobby now that sitting for hours on end looking at the equipment is not appealing anymore...

If my gaming console is the visual center of my living space...I have a **** living space. Its black and will fit in the entertainment center where it belongs. That is all...

Microsoft blew it....

This Console is useless outside America, we can't use all that tv stuff.
The games ... Really ? ANOTHER cod , another forza....

GG microsoft , gg
Why? Your cable or satellite box doesn't have HDMI out to feed into the Xbox One?

No reason they can't easily add guide information for providers anywhere in the world.

I agree... not eveyone has a cable or sat box. I don't. My TV aerial feeds straight into the TV and receives Freeview/Freeview HD.
