Bing is an ABSOLUTE CRAP, a makeshift attempt at a search engine by MS.

Unless Steve says we're going to use it, then it will be the BEST Ever, always was, and Google always sucked...

Don't be a Troll BRLawyer and quit thinking for yourself. That is not allowed in the land of Applemania!!! - One of the advantages of being an Apple fanboy is that Gosh Golly Gee everything just works and we mindlessly accept everything "Steve" says... Learning how things work is for MS Fanboys who "tinker" inside their boring boxes.... Apple doesn't cater to "tinkerers" (Who wants to know how to do some complex chore like change a video card)!

Come on, Skate to where the Puck is going to Be - Bing Sucks, unless Steve says it doesn't!!! Then it will be the best (and most elegant, delicious, and sexiest) search engine that ever was!!

Woooo Hooooo Steve!!

Sure, just think about the Apple /// and the Lisa ;)

APPLE IS DEAD. AND SO IS MS.

GO ACER!!! :D

ANYTHING BUT ACER :(

No wonder why you hate PCs, Acer is a terrible terrible brand. They literally fall apart after a year (from my experience, if anyone has had a better experience let me know).

Go Lenovo, or Sony. Seriously. :p

Not anymore. Chrome is quickly gathering popularity and marketshare. I believe that in a couple of years it will be close to Firefox. Too bad for the Opera though, since it is actually the best browser out there.

LMAO @ all the sheep who voted negative. Wow, that is insane.

I don't care though, Safari is junk either way, Firefox is slowly becoming a great standard.

Humorous that you didn't realize this is about iPhone... and Firefox is not available on the iPhone. Whose the sheep now? /facepalm

Will i be crucified if I said i use Bing...sometimes.

Honestly..both have their place. Bing image/video search is loads better than Google. Hell even their maps is better.

Google normal search seems to produce a few more relevant hits vs. Bing...but to pretend like Bing is some terrible search engine is just ignorance.

You really should read the article before doing your own facepalm.

The article states Bing might be coming to Safari in OSX also.;)

What's your real opinion BRL?

MS made its way by copying Apple. We all know this. MS lest we forget "saved Apple" with a large cash investment at a critical time. MS and Apple are inextrickably linked. Deal with it.

This is Apple's time to shine. MS will have a cloud form of office on the tablet and it will not be on Windows, but on TOSX (iPhone OS). It will be tethered to Apple in its form of distribution with a piece of the action going to Apple. It will compel the purchase of service fees, a portion of which goes to Apple.

In a sense the tables are turned. Apple "controls" MS now in this environment. MS wants to be on board because they have made unenlightened efforts into these spaces for years now (mobile, cloud, AOL-like stuff, search), BADLY.

Apple will bring religion and will get paid for it.

Rocketman

Default search for a large fee, not exclusive search. We can all reconfigure to Google when we get our devices.

I'll agree there. Though they have gotten better.

My company of choice is Asus as of late however.

But then again, i'm a desktop man so my computers remain custom built while the gf gets the laptop.

However, remember that before iPhone came along smartphone users were free to install any application they wanted. Apple has a tendency to "revolutionize" a lot of things. What if use of search engine becomes one of them? :D

It's called ttthhhheeeee innnnnttttteerrrrrnnneeetttt. I can go on it, go to the URL box, type in "www.google.com" or "fanboysblowsteve.com" and hit the go button, and guess what? getting warmer?? yes, that's right, it takes me to the website i put in the URL bar.

...although, i don't think the second url i posted actually exists,:D

I am not that dyslexic, it's because of this:

"If the negotiations are successful, it could also mean that Bing could eventually replace Google as the default search engine for Apple's desktop version of Safari as well."

Again, that "default" word. That indicates options.

Microsoft has repeatedly demonstrated where "quality" sits on their list of priorities.

Not that high, folks. Not that high.

The thought of Apple aligning itself with any of their products makes me queasy.

lol, seen the yellow iMac threads and the faulty machines that Apple KEEP shipping.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 1.6; en-us; Archos5 Build/Donut) AppleWebKit/528.5+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.2 Mobile Safari/525.20.1)

Looking at the ratings it appears that many people are unhappy about this roumour.

If they still gave you the choice then it wouldn't be so bad but the less educated would probably stick with the default.

Why is Bing absolute ****? Please provide reasons.

I've just performed half a dozen comparison searches with Google and Bing, and both provided me with similar, if not the same, results.

Anyone?

Bing is not even close to Google's search. Not even close. I've agreed with most of your posts in this thread. But, you are way off on Bing search results over Google's search results.

Bing sucks as a search engine, but there is some useful functions within Bing - that is about it.

Google has no close competitor in search, not even yahoo. Organic results & spidering in Google is something Bing needs to look at to update there search.

Bing sucks!

and about Bing being default - who knows if Apple will allow you to customize this. Your hypothesis is too early to be definite Surely!

Fair enough. Thank you for providing actual reasons.

I am not here to defend Bing, and I am not an avid user of Bing. However, in the 6 or so comparison searches that I've made, I came up with pretty much the same results on Google and on Bing. So based on that, I don't see much of a difference. Obviously, I know that 6 searches doesn't provide definitive proof.

I just don't like seeing the "Bing sucks because it is Microsoft and I hate them" posts. It's ridiculous.

Woooo Hooooo Steve!!
What a tool you are, NetS.

Google is the only software company that I've known that Apple let in so far into their world of business and suddenly, they are competing in Apple's space. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if promised were made that were broken from Schmidt and the Boys ("No, Steve. We're not interested in doing a Google phone. Cross our hearts and pinky swear!)"

I'd deny them the revenue too of my browser -- they need to be taught some sort of lesson. I'm very disappointed at Google and the ways that they have taken advantage of Apple's good graces.

Very strange... Not that I care much. Since "default" search engine implies that I can change it, no big deal. Even better if I have more options to decline.

Again, that "default" word. That indicates options.

Default means it's in a prime position. Anyway, the problem is not default or options, it's the fact that Bing would be a choice at all.

Microsoft is anti-consumer and anti-competitive. If it can't get a decent slice of the search pie by itself, the last thing device and software makers should do is help them.

Granting Microsoft yet another way to force their vendor lock-in filed crap unto the public is not the way to promote competition.

And yes, this is why Bing sucks, because it's made by the worst monopolistic software maker on the market.

A possible olive branch here for fun and profit. Otherwise Bing needs to play a major game of catch up in layout. The maps are fun to look at but not as much for directions. Cashback is always relevant.

Anti-consumer?

Let's look here.
The Google chairman sits on the Apple board of directors for 3 years. All the while stealing ideas from Apple.
The Google chairman leaves and starts to make a LOT of various software/hardware that poaches on Apple's IP.
THAT! is anti-consumer.

A company that steals ideas ( Microsoft AND Google ) is NOT consumer friendly.

Have you taken a look at your front door through Google maps recently ?
Had a look at people walking down streets lately?

Google is not only anti-consumer they are also infringing on privacy.

They're as bad as AT&T.

As far as I'm concerned Google can go search itself.

Out of interest, what exactly have Google stolen from Apple?
Google bought Android INC back in 2005 Link. What do you expect Google had planned with Android back then (before the iPhone?)
