Hum... I don't love Windows, don't own an Android phone nor have I ever, own Apple products and use them and love them. But frankly, you know what made me post "pro-Microsoft" junk ?

The damn Mac head/iOS junkies that can't seem to know the facts before they spout hate towards anything not-Apple.

Seriously, this thread wasn't close to being about Apple, it's about Windows 8 and a supposed application marketplace it will have, what does Apple even have to do with this aside from being competition ? Do we really need all the "Copying Apple!" and "Apple did it first! this will suck!" ignorant comments littering the thread ?

Next time you're wondering why the Apple crowd gets "trolled" so much, stop and wonder if they're not the ones attracting it. I hate Microsoft, yet I can't stand by while ignorance is being spewed in a thread, even if it is about them.
Indeed. I see nothing wrong with Microsoft launching an app store for Windows.

Let's hope that they fix windows update! Lousy updates that stay forever and never complete or fail to do so.

They need to get rid of that message that nags you to restart your system, for an update to be installed. At least it has been improved since XP, where it would restart your computer, if you weren't there to click postpone.

Could I just say, Windows 8 is like my worst computing nightmares come true-a desktop computer running a mobile operating system. *shudder*

Except that its running an improved W7, and packs a touch-friendly interface for when you actually need it (along with a new application platform).

Educate yourself, will ya?

Fanboys

See thats what forums are for,to say what u want even if its not true.Apple did not invent the phone but on here you would swear they did i guess just to fit in FANBOYS say anything notice the term BOYS Apple and Microsoft have been around for along time they work side by side every daydid you FANBOYS know that oops no you didnt not that you care Windows 8 will be the os of the century just like IOS will be tied in with IOS to be also the os of the century cometition is good for all no one has the rights to any specific generic term but here so-called FANBOYS dont see that are you guys really fans of apple? im looking at one of the first Apple machines sitting right next to me how many of you remember when it came out care to guess or go look it up.

They'd probably better call it the "Microsoft Windows Online Store for Selling Digital Applications".
Or else. :D

Hey man, take a chill pill.

I think Microsoft is just going to use "store" as the name for their app store. Why is everyone talking about Apple suing Microsoft for using the term "app store" in Windows 8, when clearly on the bottom left tile is says "Store"? Does Apple have the word "store" trademarked too?

Not one person said Apple invented app stores. Where do you see this?

Generally people who use the word "fanboy" tend to make things up...

You don't see how bashing Microsoft for copying or stealing from Apple strongly implies the perception that Apple is the inventor?

I'd just like to say that I in no way endorse this comment and would like to distance myself from these kind of posts as they have nothing to back up the needless hate and name-calling.

Question : Have you been drinking ?

I'm actually excited by this. I don't care if it was copied. Why can't we have love for both Apple and Microsoft?

Don't you know? If you're not with us then you're against us.....:D

Could I just say, Windows 8 is like my worst computing nightmares come true-a desktop computer running a mobile operating system. *shudder*

I'm hoping you're making a joke because I assume you've seen Lion......

Have you used either? I have (Win8 milestone builds), it's great.

Windows Phone GUI is probably the best out there, it's very intuitive and slick.

Agreed. I have been using iPhones since 2007, and just switched to a Windows Phone 7 device this week. I absolutely love it. I really don't understand the UI hate some people have for it, it is the most beautiful UI out there in my opinion.

Seriously, we need to all stop caring about "oh, they just copied ____". or "oh, ____ had that feature first". It's nonsensical. I want products...from any company...that work. If that means they stand on the shoulders of who came before with features, so be it. If Windows wants an application store, why do I care if Apple had one first? If Apple is updating iOS to have more robust notifications, why do I care that Android had it first? Do they want a fricken prize?

Why not take it to the extreme? Why not criticize the iPad for using an LCD screen with "oh, Compaq had LCD screens on their laptops back in the 90's, this is nothing new, Apple is just copying others by using an LCD". Makes as much sense.

Come on...

This.

The copyright system fails completely and companies are turning this legal games into wars. This should be a free world and we all should push the ideas of Creative Commons. Art, science and all areas where creative input is a must, are simply not working without copying. There are NO new inventions, everything is a copy of other stuff, combining elements resulting in developing new things at the end. You can not invent the wheel again.

Apple does not deserve exclusive rights to the term 'App Store'. This is almost as stupid as Cadbury wanting to trademark the colour purple, for chocolate wrappers.

Terrible analogy....

Apple came up with the name, and they trade marked it. Period, end of conversation.

It is like Ford trying to name a car a Ford Camry. Just won't happen....

App is short for Application. People would have been using the word app before the App Store even existed. End of conversation.

Creative Commons is intended to give credit to the creator. We see patent and copyright law suits when credit or compensation is not given to the creator. That is what has been happening in recent months and all companies, including Apple, are guilty.

In fact, with soooo much innovation taking place at such a rapid pace, it is quite possible that various companies are creating technology not knowing that someone already patented it. The original iPhone had a 375 page patent portfolio. Who the hell has time to read through that in this fast paced environment when bringing technology to the market?

Who used the term "app store" before Apple?

lol, Windows 8 :D

Windows 8 looks incredibly disgusting! What better time to get a Mac

I second that. The Windows 8/Windows Phone GUI is an absolute train-wreck.
Like the Steve said, there's no culture in Microsoft's products.
You would think that, with the Windows Phone abysmal sales thus far, they would get a hint, but nope...

I think the fact that it has windows in front of the "app store" is reason enough not to worry about it. How well could it possibly do with windows in front haha. Also, in my opinion there is no way windows 8 can compare to lion.

P=mv : Microsoft has a ton of mass but unfortunatly V=0. Apples V=C, apple looses mass its so fast!

Call me a fanboy and I will reply "thank you, i love good engineering"

I wonder how Microsoft manages to get Windows so ugly.

Do they employ undesigners?

PS: Windows tries to look like what OS X looked like 3 years ago. Looks like they are catching up.

Too little too late.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Apple step forward, Microsoft follow. Where would Microsoft be without Apple? They wouldn't exist at all.

It's Microsoft. After having spent decades dealing with their software and support, it should be named the crAPP STORE.

Yes, because we know how great is Microsoft's track record on making tablets useful.

My remark was about how it looks: so uninspiring that you don't wanna try it out unless you absolutely have to.

Microsoft should worry about making Windows 7 more stable and secure instead of switching to yet another version of Windows.

With that new GUI, it should be called Microsoft Mosaics 8. It looks terrible, unless that's just a status screen. What are they thinking!?

win 8 - already ?

Terrible analogy....

Apple came up with the name, and they trade marked it. Period, end of conversation.

I like an open minded discussion. How about you guys?

Can we quote you when iOS is merged with OSX on Macs?

Again guys : They already are merged. They always were merged. What you guys are talking about is not iOS and OS X, it's Finder and Springboard.

And I very doubt Apple will ever bring Springboard to OS X for the Macs. Forget it, what has to be merged always was, the OSes are already the same in every aspect they need to be.

That Apple will bring Sprinboard features to Finder and vice versa, I can agree, but they will never merge both.

You make yourself look like an Apple fanboy.

You make yourself look like you prefer calling names than taking a look at Microsoft's history.

Are you unable to see any good in a Microsoft product?

Does that even matter? We're talking about the very concrete subject of Microsoft's history with Tablets. Is that a history of successes? (man, I don't think even Ballmer would try to argue about that)

But hey, you're practically asking for a retort here, so I'll take a shoot:
Yes, I heard that Microsoft Flight Simulator is even good. Or at least it was at some point in the past, don't know how is it now.

Yeah, after Apple starting using it. Case and point, they have the right to copyright it.

First, you mean trademark it. Second, Apple wasn't the first to use the term App Store, Sage Networks registered for the same trademark for an online software rental service back in 1998. The only ones who can say if Apple will have a right to trademark is the judge in the review case, not you or me or anyone else.
