I meant they have a right to attempt to trademark it. In theory, anyone can try whatever they want, and Apple seems to get a load of press everytime they try to legally protect their work. Apple does have a strong case to trademark the term, IMO, however, I am not in the profession of issuing trademarks, copyrights or patents, so, it is just my opinion.
In regards to the term being used as a common term, no one started using it with any regularity until Apple did, regardless of any current trademarks.

Regardless, it was not a common term until Apple started using it. Other than Sage Networks, back in 1998, who used it with regularity before Apple? I know you didn't. Please don't site Wikipedia...that is not a reliable source of information.
