I'm having a real tough time on deciding whether to get my iMac replaced or not. It will be two weeks this Thursday. On one hand, everything about it is perfect. No dead pixels and no scratches anywhere. On the other hand, there is some yellow tint on the lower part of the screen. I have AppleCare so part of me just wants to enjoy the iMac and have the screen fixed in the 3rd year if it really bothers me later on.

I was in the same boat, and I sent it back. Now I'm debating about getting another one, or waiting til Apple resolves this.

I say get rid of it. You likely won't feel better about this over time.

Did you just tell them that you had the yellow tint and wanted your money back?

How come you didn't go for a replacement free of charge?

I did send my Apple sales person a pic of my screen. He recommended that I return it.

I called customer service, and they offered me an exchange or my money back. I took the cash as I'll order one with a 2TB drive.

okay i've got a question? how bad is this problem....has apple leaked any figures of returns?...just wondering coz i've just ordered one... :D:( ..obviously I ask because a poll will always be bias as people with the yellow-tint are more likely to find this tread and post etc etc

I mean you cant even smoke around these screens because of dust getting trapped within the lcd I could punch the g4 emac crt screen and it would not make a bloody difference:D

It's common enough, unfortunately. Took me two times to get a good one. Although the problem isn't getting that much press. Wished apple would get there QA straightened out.

Good luck to you!!

Hello Fellow Mac Users:

After carefully researching Mac computers for about two years and weighing the pros and cons - and well also acquiring the means to purchase one, I finally entered the Mac family a week ago by purchasing a 21.5 iMac from Best Buy. Needless to say my expectations have certainly been met as well as exceeded.

I grew up working with PC's working with various forms of multimedia. I was really growing weary of all the headaches I had to contend with with PC's and I had been hearing how wonderful Mac computers were and how they were the standard in multimedia production.

So I have literally been enjoying this computer like a fat kid in a candy store for the past week and relishing every moment. Then to my horror , these stories of yellow-tinted displays on the iMacs start popping up.

After repeated testing and looking at this display every way but upside down, I think I can safely conclude that I may be one of the lucky ones. Although as paranoid and obsessively compulsive as my mind is, I think my eyes are creating "phantom" yellow stains that come and go...no I promise I'm not mental lol.

Maybe you guys can help put my mind at ease, but from what I can tell the issue seems to be largely with the 27" models and lesser with the 21.5 models. It also seems from the reports I've seen that it seems to be something that is initial right from the start. My question is...are these stains something that suddenly develop and get worse the longer you have your computer?

Also, it seems to me that Apple's customer service is legendary, and I wonder how they would address this situation should - and hopefully not - my computer become afflicted. I have read that Best Buy is an authorized distributor, and I hopeful that Apple will honor the warranty should anything happen.

Also - not to change the subject - but I was trying to register my computer" How do I go about rectifying this?

I absolutely love this computer and am completely sold on them. If anyone could help out a newbie here with some information I would be so ever grateful. Thanks in advance. Take care and God Bless

i had noticed it but if it progresses would apple care just exchange it in a year or so ?or do i have like 30 days?

they wont exchange it, they'll try to fix it or replace the screen. You only have 14 days to get a new one.

hm if its only the bottom lower left hand side which i dont even see then i guess its fine... most people on this site usually have large tinting.

one more pic... slight tint on lower left anybody think i should exchange and take the hit of getting a worse one? or is it tollerable?

or is it tollerable?

That is a question only you can answer. What is tolerable to one person isn't tolerable to another.

If I paid 200 dollars for an iMac, that's a tolerable screen to me. If I spent well over 1,000 dollars on an iMac, I'd return it and have them open new ones up in store for me to see before I left.

I can't really see it that well, doesn't look too bad, but it's up 2 you. You could send it back and then get one that is worse, then have to keep going through the process until you get a clean or decent one again.

That looks fine to me.

I think people on here need to Google what the real yellow tint issue looks like. It's obvious if you have it! All this "do i have it? I'm not sure? maybe i am just seeing things?" means its fine.

My first iMac had blue tint on the right and red tint on the left, i didn't need to post pics on an internet forum asking people if it was there, i could see it straight away within the first 30 mins of using the computer.

Send it back if you like and get a refund, or play "return/replace roulette" and either end up with something worse, similar, or go through exchange after exchange trying to find perfection.

Sorry that wasn't aimed at you specifically, even though i quoted you (just using it as an example).

If you have other issues then exchange, but be aware you may 'fix' one issue and get another machine with other issues. Such as a louder HD, debris under the glass (dust etc), flickering, dead pixels, backlight bleed in one of the corners etc.. all these things are possible so you just have to decide if the issue you have is worth rolling the dice on another unit. You could easily end up with a perfect unit, but some people have gone through 3-4 returns to find this, and conversely some people have gone through 3-4 returns and still had issues.

My first iMac had bad red/blue tint. I get a second unit which has a more consistent screen (although still not prefect. But from what i have read this is very rare) and a louder HD (was Hitachi and now is Seagate). So just be aware is all i am saying...
