Its a little hard to believe squeezing new chips and a charging coil into an old shell will hog up to much of Apples resources. If they wanna update the SE, they will.

I've been so discouraged with the manufactures preference of larger phones being flagships. I understand that there are technical advantages to having a larger chassis to fit "more stuff" into but the SE has always been a second class citizen. Our hardware is more then up to the job but we miss out on all those fancy new features.

My real issue is that when they launched it the statement was "some people just like smaller phones". Not "only poor people like smaller phones". I cant palm a basket ball and damn it i want to touch all four corners of my phone with one hand. Make a god damn 4" version of the iPhone X or 8 and i'll happily buy one! Hell i'll happily pay 1000 bucks for it maybe even 1200.

They can't update it and have it hurt sales of the iPhone X and 8 phones. It would cost them too much money and not make it to 1 Trillion if they updated the iPhone SE. The only logical decision is to treat the iPhone SE like they do the Mac Mini / Mac Pro / iPod Touch / iPad Mini.

You're literally saying they shouldn't do this because it would hurt their focus on making as much money as humanly possible in spite of everything else. Apple used to be consumer-focused ... which is why they got to where they are in the first place.

The SE is already on the level of the iPhone 6s, just one notch behind the 7. It would be silly to update an already long-in-the-tooth phone just to give it a slightly-less-old chip.

Also a notch behind the X, right? :D

I would like to see the C form factor back; that very square model is just uncomfortable. Do a C like unapologetically plastic 2, but make it worthy. Windows Phone is on the way out and I still don't care for Android. A new cheaper iPhone with a bit of C fun and SE build quality, and headphone jack, would be cool to see.

Unfortunately, the SE as it stands is still good enough for Apple to sell for a third year, just at a lower price point again.

Touting an SE right now and it's still handles everything that I throw at it. I can't think of anything more than I need it to do. Even the battery performance meets my current needs, since I can plug in at the office, at home and in the vehicle.

I disagree wholeheartedly with the square form factor being uncomfortable. It's my preferred design. I love the solid feel of this device. My gf has the 6s, but she is always using my phone for playing games! She prefers it, too!

I don't know where your hate is coming from, but from my memory this guy definitely has scored much higher than 5%. Perhaps, you should look up all his analysis and make a statistics if you think he's less than 5% correct? Last year, he correctly predicted iPhone X (he called it "8" at the time) will completely remove Touch ID and feature a bezel-less display. Older statistics, if you are being lazy, could be found in the links below:

https://www.cultofmac.com/273923/ming-chi-kuo/
https://www.ped30.com/2016/04/24/apple-ming-chi-kuo-truthiness/

I'd like to see better frames of reference, how far out where the amazing predictions, weeks, months? My perception is that he's just lucky and some of his other predictions other than those noted, have not been close, but somehow those fall off the map.

Another thing to consider the if you update it much you increase production cost. It’s being sold as a $350 (or less) phone. Profit margins are much better on the larger phones where people expect to pay more. If we don’t see an updated SE it probably has more to do with margins then it does with Apple not having the resources to develop it.

Wow, resources is one thing I didn't expect apple to lack.
I think they're talking about more than just money -- need the bandwidth of all kinds of technicians, I'd imagine, not to mention the availability of components, contractors' production lines. You have to assume these resources are committed well in advance because nobody wants an idle factory or an idle worker.

I'd be super interested to see a documentary showing the total journey of all the parts of (say) an iPhone from raw materials all the way through manufacturing and shipping. Anybody see anything like this?

I am a huge fan of the SE, but an upgrade still doesn't make sense yet. It is a very capable budget phone. People have to remember this was meant for emerging smart phone markets and it was a perk for those of us that like the smaller form factor. If they update the SE with the specs of the 8 (only way an update makes sense), it will surely eat away at the 8 and even X.

Improve the battery life, speed, and an OLED would be nice. Don't need the wireless charging. Still one of if not my favourite iphone. Good things come in small packages.

If I remember correctly, Ming-Chi Kuo is the same source who stated that the shrinking delivery times for the iPhone X was not an indication of weak demand. Does he do retractions or does he just move on?

Makes sense - stick in an A11, updated camera and 2nd gen TouchID and get it out the door. The whole point of the SE was that because it reused the iPhone 5s frame it had very low development costs so thinking Apple would 'develop' a new phone to be the low-end didn't seem right. I'm sure it's possible that they could make the SE2 using spare iPhone 6(s) bodies and screens, but this might pull too many people away from the high end phones.
I know I would gladly upgrade from our 6s to that new SE if it meant a sensible size (3.5-4"), Touch ID and a A11, regardless of the price.

Absolutely this. Improved networking, processing and mics for Siri, and camera improvements, are the 2 things I want in phone upgrades, but these alone are not worth £699. Everything else that makes the iPhone 8 £699 is what I want an iPad for: a brilliant display.

AirPods, Watch and Siri are amazing for me. The iPhone is an increasingly unnecessary step between Watch and iPad. Perhaps I’m the perfect candidate for an iPhone Plus?

Your iPad replacement was part of my initial thoughts for my post. Somewhere along the way, lost it. Thanks!

Retractions may be common for a ventriloquist dummy of the Apple Board - but only in private time
He's just preparing/managing/manipulating public opinion and can't be wrong

Just update the internals and give us a better low light camera and I'll buy it for sure. I'll probably buy it with just an updated processor.

I don't care for wireless charging. I'd much rather have high speed charging instead.

Instead of updating it they should make it bezel-less. 4" is way too small a screen at this point.

If there's indeed to be a Q2 new phone announcement, that phone should already be well under way in the supply chain, and solid rumors would be leaking out. The fact that all we have is speculation thus far suggests to me that nothing's coming that soon. Would be nice to be wrong, though.
