I think Apple is in a bit of a tight spot with regard to the SE. In Feb/Mar 2017 a customer survey was released indicating that not only did the SE have the best overall customer satisfaction of any iPhone, it was the only iPhone to have a higher customer sat rating than the latest Samsung phones at the time. While having a customer be delighted with any iPhone is better than being with the competition, being delighted with the entry-level iPhone is not desirable (from Apple's point of view).

The SE can now currently be found brand new for under $200 without a contract and no subsidy. That's cheaper than the latest iPod Touch model that is woefully outdated.

SE battery life is noteworthy in that it is noticeably better than the more expensive iPhones. In my uses, I can go quite a few days with my nearly 2 yr old SE on a single charge without a problem.

Any update to the SE will eat into sales of the iPhone 8. How much depends upon how much of an update it is and how important the smaller form-factor, headphone jack, and lower price are to people.

I'd be surprised if there is an updated SE in 2018. 2019 seems more likely.

Touting an SE right now and it's still handles everything that I throw at it. I can't think of anything more than I need it to do. Even the battery performance meets my current needs, since I can plug in at the office, at home and in the vehicle.

I disagree wholeheartedly with the square form factor being uncomfortable. It's my preferred design. I love the solid feel of this device. My gf has the 6s, but she is always using my phone for playing games! She prefers it, too!

Interesting. I found the square sides of the 4/5 to be especially annoying for gaming. Digging into one's hands like nothing since the PS1 controller with its insane screwholes.

The design peaked with the 3g/3gs and it is a shame they clearly never realised that, while being impressive that they got it right so quickly. To each their own of course :)

Fascinating! Thanks for stopping by this thread about the iPhone SE to let us all know that!
YOU ARE VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERYVERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY WELCOME!

An iPhone SE 2 would do! iPhone X is an scam. I am keeping mine to remind me I am not inmune in doing very stupid tings in life. The iPhone X is a compilation of things you do not need that you already have... but worse.

I disabled face ID.... it takes too long and is faster to insert the code any way.
The button on the right side has to be combined with the buttons on the right and is confusing, you want to shut down the phone and you end up taking a screen shot and having to click 2 more times to delete that picture and shooting down the phone again.
The only "good" thing is the camera but Samsung is way superior, that means that for $1000 we are not getting the best on the market at all.
Then... is made of glass, it will break. My iPhone 5 lasted until last December, never had a broken glass and I stopped using because Apple like to sabotage their own technology to make us but new crap.

That's about it.

Get the iPhone SE 2, it is smaller, if it has aluminum frame is way better! And that is it.

Damn keeping yours to remind you to not do stupid things in life... Instead of just selling it and getting something else.

It sucks that you’re having such a hard time with it. It’s really not bad...

The SE is the last real iPhone. It has a unique design, that sets it off from the competitors. Everything after that, 6 and its clones and the X look generic.

I just hope for 128GB, better camera and better touch ID, then I will throw away my 6 and go back to the roots, back to a time, when a cell phone was a cell phone and not a phablet.

I don’t even think the SE’s big issue is it’s processor.

TouchID 2 is what I want most. :)

Apple should then introduce tech that keeps all users in sync with their services and design direction, which means:

- A new screen capable of Force Touch
- AirPlay 2
- Solid Home button (one you can’t press down because it’s not an actual button.

Lastly, include a better CPU, because they’d need to redesign the internals anyway, and an A10 chip would be great.

Why does this guy keep getting quoted as a reliable source. Every time I read one of these articles the guy is wrong or completely absurd. He might get 1 out of every 20 prediction right. MacRumors would be better off quoting one of us.

Because if it weren't for Ming, then MacRumours would be posting recipes for cooking toast and boiling eggs. Unfortunately now with so many 'Ming says...' there isn't much worth reading in here anymore. Time to burn the Ming effigy MacRumours.

I prefer smaller form factor phones. When my SE dies and I am forced to get a new phone, I won't be staying with Apple if there is no upgraded SE or another phone with a similar size. I've used iOS for almost 10 years, and the smaller SE is the only thing keeping me right now. If I am forced to get a larger phone, that'll be motivation to get rid of Apple.

Good luck finding an alternative. The iPhone SE is one of the few phones with a small screen and reasonable specs.

Another thing to consider the if you update it much you increase production cost. It’s being sold as a $350 (or less) phone.

$150 gets you an AT&T iPhone SE.

$100 around the holidays got you a Total Wireless iPhone SE.

I picked one up to use as an iPod Touch. Alas, under iOS11, do not seem to be getting the much vaunted 10-12 hours of battery life. It's also been an adjustment given how thin my current IPT 6G is. Still, great device, although I long to see the iPad Mini updated

Several people mentioned one-handed use of their iPhones. How do you manage that?! I've always operated these things with two hands —one to hold and one to tap. Sure I'd drop it, otherwise!

Both my wife and I have SE's and they will remain on 10.3 for as long as we own them. We're still getting terrific battery life from them. As for one-handed use, it is pretty easy. Even my wife (when she doesn't have long nails) can use it one-handed and she has small hands.

Bro! iPhone X the size of SE would sell like hotcakes!!! why would you make 2 more phones bigger than the X?!?!?!

Kuo believes Apple doesn't have enough spare development resources to focus on launching another iPhone, with three new models already in the pipeline, including a second-generation iPhone X with a "much different" internal design, a larger 6.5-inch version dubbed iPhone X Plus, and a lower-priced 6.1-inch iPhone with Face ID but design compromises like an LCD screen.

An excerpt from the research note, obtained by MacRumors, edited slightly for clarity:The announcement of three new iPhone models in the same quarter in the second half of 2017 was the first time Apple made such a major endeavor, and we believe the delay of iPhone X, which had the most complicated design yet, shows that Apple doesn't have enough resources available for development. […]

With three new models in the pipeline for the second half of 2018, we believe Apple may have used up its development resources. Also, we think the firm will do all it can to avoid repeating the mistake of a shipment delay for the three new models. As such, we believe Apple is unlikely to have enough spare resources to develop a new iPhone model for launch in 2Q18

I literally laughed for a minute when I read this, what he is saying, is that Apple, with all its endless billions and billions and billions in cash, more then some countries, and its thousands of workers around the globe are, incapable, of designing more then 2 or 3 phones at a time...

Bbbbwwwwaaahhahahahahahahah

Why would anyone invest in a company like this? Meanwhile other companies with a lot less money and resources are MORE then capable of knocking out a few new phones every month...

If this is true it will not be down to Apples lack of resources, mearly it’s business plan to refuse to spend the money on development, another sign of its sheer greed.

Bugs in iOS 11
Delayed HomePod
Delayed iPhone X

Something is definitely not working as expected. Resources would be a good guess.

If u keep bring out more models we'd end up like Android is... plenty to choose from and even Apple couldn't keep with with all the sizes, even if it *is* as a convenience for customer, it would actually drive everyone nuts.

We may say, "bring out a new model" but if we keep saying that, Apple will no longer be a simple company anymore. Then we'd be worrying that Apple makes too many products for us to choose.

Drive EVERYONE nuts? Are you saying that Apple customers will have difficulty choosing a phone among 4 models?

They definitely aren't in danger of making too many products. The lack of updates on some of their products is the biggest issue people have with them ... or just completely and utterly ignoring customer needs (like the Mac Pro). They need to dislodge their heads from their nether regions.

If that was true, it would have been done. But Apples never made as many products as others, because they want to simplify everything in choosing.

Fewer products are easier to manage then too many products and must cater for a larger section with updates etc..

I wouldn't say 'ignoring' anyone... by not updating for a long time, to me that always mean a 'shift' (end of life, or just putting it out on the fence to dry)

Until Apple does prove it at WWDC that is.

So again, you think that 4 iPhone models are too many?

An iPhone SE 2 or iPhone SE (2018) would be the ONLY thing I'd consider buying from Apple at this point. And only because it is almost impossible to find a smaller (reasonably) sized phone in the US market. Otherwise I'm done with them as a company.

They don't make any products I want. And everything else about them I can get for better/cheaper under Windows or Linux at this point. The Apple Tax used actually stand for something, but iOS 11 and High Sierra have been dumpster fires out the door. Build quality has gone down, at the same time serviceability has nose dived, meaning Apple is the only place to go for costly repairs that should have been matter of 10 minutes work with a screw driver.

Apple has spent these last 5 to 7 years just pissing me off repeatedly, to the point that I'm not pushing my non-tech relatives towards Windows and Linux platforms over Apple. Especially those who've gotten screwed over by Apple's Annual Death March of Obsolescence.

Tim et all seem to have forgotten that is was the technology savvy that brought our non-tech friends and family over the Apple space over 10 years, which is why they now enjoy the market share they do. In the next 10 years I will not be shocked at all see that population get migrated away again, like it did in the early/mid 90s.
