Uh-oh. Almost looks like the XR is going to be a repeat of the iPhone 5c. I thought people loved phablets?

It is not Phablets for a lot of people any more, The 6.1" is barely larger than the Xs. You would need to get to 7" ( 20:9 Ratio ) before it is a Phablets.

I don't understand how it could not be a better screen because according to Apple it's better then LCD... It's Liquid Retina!
What Apple said was that the XR is the most color-accurate smartphone LCD in the industry. The Liquid Retina LCD is their marketing term for edge-to-edge LCD screen.

Even though by Screen area the 6.1 Xr has the same area as 5.5 Plus. A lot of people still wanted a bigger, Aka Xs Max size Phone. ( And equally some people wanted a 4.7" X design Phone ). But couldn't justify the $1099 price.

70M is not a bad figure though.

But Assuming we see the same 230M unit, On a 40M Xs and 70M Xr, that means Apple is expected to have half of its sales going to older generation iPhone. I don't think this is good at all.

Meanwhile there are kind of better and much cheaper Android - Smartphones like the Xiaomi Pocophone F1.
We will see how it develops. Competition is good for us.

I think that is what Kuo is stating in items 2 and 3 above, just not in the same words you used.

Item 2 is stating that some consumers don't see the value proposition of the iPhone XR and item 3 is stating that some consumers see a better value is a competitor's device.

I agree. Sadly Apple answer to counter will most likely be "push yet another 2 devices with a different screen size and dilute even more the value, innovation and increase 10% the price". Next year we will have like 5 "new" iPhones surely.
Apple wants to be the Rolex or smartphones, Jobs legacy sadly is not so strong.

My hands are big, but I still have no idea how anyone could think the XR is too big. Ever since I got my iPhone 6 Plus, I’ve never been able to go back to anything smaller.

My launch 7 Plus is starting to show signs of wear and tear and I’d consider replacing it with the 8 Plus over the XR any day, and that’s not even accounting for price. And as much as I want an XS Max, the PWM is too much for me.

He’s right about Huawei, too. Both their notebook and smartphone lineups are excellent right now. One of the only companies who might be able to turn me away from Apple.

And Huawei is cheap compared to what you get. insane value. Its just that darn Android, tried it for a year, couldnt get used to it after 8 years with ios. (i just switched my Huawei to an XS MAX).

Since most consumer don’t know what LCD stands for, their “Liquid Retina LCD” is a way to sell their product.

It’s actually called “Liquid Retina Liquid Crystal Display” which sounds weird :p

Who cares? Did you short it big? If not, you’re just throwing out meaningless predictions.
[doublepost=1542078326][/doublepost]
You just threw that out as a reason. No one even knows if iPhone sales are impacted by this nonsense guess from Kuo, let alone why.

The freaking Nubia X is not realistic competition for iPhone unless it starts running iOS. These silly gimmick designs are more competition for other phones running Android than Apple.

Again, no one but Apple knows how iPhone is doing and all sales data has been nothing but positive from Apple. Apple sold MORE iPhones in 2018 than 2017 at far higher prices. They don’t need huge unit sales row then with their pricing power and shift to services.
Oddly if the iPhone came out with dual screen and a notch less design it would be called innovative let alone "courageous" I still wonder how many Android haters here actually have used say Android 9 and seen how fluid and fast it is. As for privacy, you are on MacRumours, how many scripts and adverts are privacy advocates blocking I wonder, let alone surfing of course though a VPN for that extra anonymity and one that's not in one of the 14 eye countries either. If not, then all your data is probably owned as much as any device. iOS privacy is as much part of the marketing as much as anything else. I bought the Xs this year and was a bit shocked at the lack of innovation from the 7 that I came from that will get used in day to day life. Even iOS 12 is a patch job after the mess that was iOS 11. That Nubia looks interesting at least, hell you can even use its rear facing camera and screen which on most phones is the best of the bunch to take a selfie if that's your thing, not struggle in low light to be seen even on facetime calls, unless I flood illuminate my living room...

No wonder! The XS is too big, too heavy und much too expensive. The XR is much too big, much too heavy und too expensive. Both are much, much too damageable, when falling down.

I am waiting and waiting for a desirable XR-Min, which is as solid as the SE was. My SE fell down several times without any damage. Best iPhone ever. And no, I don't like cases.
Me too. In fact I just replaced my original 64gb SE with a never used “new” 128gb SE. Battery on my old one was getting a bit soft, and I needed more space. Not interested in these huge new phones.

Everyone is different. My SE broke and I had to borrow an iPhone 7 for a couple months. It was too big for me. Very frustrating. I thought that after a few weeks I would get used to it and get the new XR, but I purchased another SE as soon as I saw that they did not release a new small phone.
Yep. Me too.

iPhone 4 design, without home button. Edge-to-edge screen. 2-3 days battery life. ≥64GB storage. $699.- That's the phone the would go like hot cake. And Apple, while you're at it. Make an iPad Pro mini.
I’d pay “XS” price for that.

My ideal phone would be one that has like 5% smaller dimensions than a 8, X style, latest specs and XS battery life. OLED isn’t necessary but would be good to have. Dual lens isn’t necessary but would be good to have. 128 GB isn’t necessary for base but would be good to have. Price around XR isn’t necessary but would be good to have. Price up to XS is my max. And you got a deal with that. I do want fast charging (Necessary), wireless charging (preferable) and TrueTone (necessary) though. And if possible I’d like 3D Touch but that isn’t a deal breaker.

In short:

Dimensions 3-5% smaller than 8, X style. If you want the size can be as much as 8 but not as big as X.

Latest specs

XS Battery life

LCD, 64 GB, Single lens camera, no 3D Touch

Price at USD 699 ideally. But for massive sales at USD 599. And I’d still buy at maybe 749-799.

You have a massive winner.

Too big doesn't always mean too big to hold but too big to store - e.g. I would rather have a smaller phone to fit in my pocket - iPhone 6 sized.

I think Apple understands their customers quite well. However, I also believe that the iPhone XR was never meant to be a big seller in North America or Europe. I think it was targeted at China first and maybe India second.

These two countries have a very large percentage of poor people. But their upper and upper-middle classes in terms of actual people are incredibly huge as compared to other countries.
The XR should sell really well.
The XS/Max with its laptop pricing is Apple seeing how far it can gouge customers before they spew.
The XR is hedging ones bets in case the XS/Max gamble doesn't pay off.
Its just a shame that with nice products Apple is just a company for the wealthy.
I hope that the share price keeps falling while Apple keeps raising prices.

After the Honor came P10 Plus and P20 Pro and soon Mate 20 Pro (better overall than any iPhone yet priced as the cheapest Xr over here in Europe (Sweden in my case).
I got my hands on a Mate 20 Pro yesterday to test in my work environment, and it's absolutely gorgeous. I also have the iPhone XR and P20 Pro for testing, and the Mate 20 Pro is way more impressive. The screen is so sharp, so clear, it almost makes my eyeballs bleed. The in-screen fingerprint reader works very well too.

Apple sold more iPhones in FY2018 than FY2017 and for higher ASPs.
...
It's literally meaningless.
Stats wise Apple sold the same amount of phones in 2018 as they did in 2017 (0.4% more) but 6% less than they did in 2015. Apple is selling less of the higher priced phones and their stockprice is taking a dip because of it.

Im in charge of a semi large company. My empoyees have pretty much been able to choose whatever they want in terms of Mac computers, iPads and Apple phones. BUT with Apples new prices it’s not possible any more. It gets to expensive. Now I can only approve the MacBook Air or the cheapest phone.

With the Swedish bleeding currency, 25% VAT and Apple Sweden adding even more than that to the prices, it makes it impossible. We will continue to standardize on Macs, but we will have to start to look around for alternative solutions wherever IOS is not absolutely needed. Its a shame really. But the Swedish prices are about 35% higher than the US prices.

Its starting to feel like a the old solution that hardly ever works out in the end. How can we earn more money? Let’s raise the prices.

Keep the prices at a fair level and sell more units instead.

According to Apple, it's was iPhone X, at least up until the XS was released. Hmm, wonder who I'm going to believe. Based on ASPs and the fact Apple can't lie, I'm going with Apple.
Why not show your calculations on the percentages on each and how it matches the ASP, in my rough calcs, Apple must have sold less of the more expensive models to achieve the $766 ASP, considering the XS/MAX are $999-$1449

One possible calculation to achieve an ASP of $767 would be
34%: XR/XS/XSMax
66%: 7/7+/8/8+ series
Noting that 2018 was mainly X and below, i think the ASP in 2019 will drop.

Yep. Pretty much. I tried to caution people on the XR. The “other people’s “ phone. Reviewers gushed on it with one key exception...they would not personally buy it. Instead they raved how “most people” would love it. This is poor reviewing.

Many of you jumped on that bandwagon. Groupthink. The best value. The best phone for most people. Lol. Now the idiot analysts are all lined up cutting estimates.

The best phone for most people is what they’re using. Or the cheapest. The apple faithful get the best.

just curious if in that five years if you will replace your battery. I think for me i would after 3 years.

I've had my 6 Plus since launch and I did have the battery replaced this year. I'll have to play it by ear with the XR. If it needs it, I wouldn't be opposed to paying for a battery replacement a few years down the line, it'd be a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new handset.

Prices haven't really gone up just the dollar is so strong right now but that won't last forever.
Actually they have. Apple is putting a buffer on the price of the phones sold abroad to cushion any blow from falling currency values. For the Euro it is only 10-15%. In other regions it is more like 40%
