The amount of autism in this 'prediction' is unreal. How does this make ANY business sense to have the MOST expensive iPhone not support Apple's Apple Pay feature or security? This is completely inaccurate, shame on MacRumors for even giving this moron space on the website with such a stupid prediction.
I suggest you look up 'autism' in any reliable dictionary, as it's fairly obvious you don't know what the word means. And I think you ought to check Ming Chi Kuo's background as well before bandying insults like 'moron' around.

Apple has something up their sleeve in reference to Touch ID. May be one of their best kept secrets in a long time. Can't wait. But if it ends up being Touch ID on the back, I'll be disappointed.

I mean, either its embedded under the screen, on the back, or gone completely. Not sure what else could be "up their sleeve."

My 3 year old iPhone 6 is going strong, was going to buy the iPhone 8, but no touchID would be a deal breaker. I want nothing to do with face/eye scanning. Would be absurd to remove it. Delay it if you have to until you figure it out.

Two things:

1.) I question this rumor entirely. I don't see touch ID being completely removed altogether and then having facial/iris scanning being the primary. I'm still guessing it's going to be embedded under the display.

2.) I see a lot of posts on here that are questioning Ming Kuo being accurate or not. I think with most don't seem to consider, is he has likely had directs insiders with parts suppliers and or manufacturers. This is where he gets his information from and then he is nothing more than a translator/middleman to leak the information publicly. Over time, he is more accurate than not. And usually, his predictions seem to grow widely more accurate towards the iPhone release Date.

"Kuo instead referenced advanced features like "3D sensing for facial recognition," suggesting Apple is ready to ditch Touch ID completely for a new form of biometric security. The analyst said that Apple is still facing technical challenges with implementing Touch ID into a full-screen front-facing display."

This seems like deliberate misinformation to prop up sales of existing iPhones until the 8 is released.

I don't buy this rumour. I think Apple has to (for their own sake) include Touch ID, especially on their newest and most expensive iPhone.

I wouldn't mind Touch ID being placed on the back as I've tried it on a Nexus 6P and it was fine, worked well. I don't usually use my phone lying on a table, so as long as it is placed in a comfortable place I'm fine with it being moved. I don't see the Power Button being ergonomic to scan a fingerprint but I may be wrong. If there's no Touch ID at all, then I'll be extremely disappointed and will cause me to consider not buying the 8, and instead go to the 7S.

To me, 9 to 5 Mac has mentioned the most credible solution for no Touch ID being embedded in the screen; A TouchBar solution similar to the MacBook Pro. It'd essentially be two different screens but look like one entire display.

Let's see what happens.

Thing is this isn't apple fault if the tech isn't quite ready for under the display

Going to take time for it to be done. Note 8 I'm sure won't have it either.

It will have TouchID because without it there's no Apple Pay. Really hope it's embedded in the display.

They've already said the Note 8 will have it on the back because they couldn't get the color right on the screen where the sensor is.

Don't worry touch ID is going to be replaced by smell ID. Simply place phone under armpit for a few seconds to unlock your phone.

No 3GB of RAM in the 4.7 - deal breaker. Ask the 6 users how they feel about having 1GB of RAM running iOS 10 after trying a 6S with 2GB of RAM.

5S - 1GB of RAM
6S - 2GB of RAM

<wait for it>

7S - 2GB of RAM

Idiots. Looks like I'll be holding onto my 6S for a bit longer.

I have a 6 and have no problem running IOS 10 whatsoever, can also have multiple apps open without them reloading, multiple tabs etc. So 2GB is definitely not an issue.

"Ming-Chi Kuo Predicts iPhone 8 Will Omit Touch ID Entirely"

That's a click-bait headline. At no time did Ming-Chi Kuo state that. He only said TouchID would not be embedded in the screen.
He also said “"We predict the OLED model won't support fingerprint recognition”

That sounds like no Touch ID anywhere on phone to me.

This pretty much means they went the remove Touch ID way and go with 3D camera

1) He said no TouchID embedded in the display, not that there would be no TouchID at all. Macrumors are the ones responsible for the misleading clickbait headline, so perhaps you should be questioning their credibility instead.

2) Ming-Chi Kuo has the highest accuracy amongst Apple analysts. He's not always right, but he's right more often than the rest.
Wrong. He also said “"We predict the OLED model won't support fingerprint recognition”.

We went on to explain why it wouldn’t be embedded into OLED display but never said it would be included in any other part of phone.

I hope he's wrong, that would be a major bummer.
Yet I have strong doubts that it's actually gonna be embedded into the display. Apple doesn't innovate anymore :p

Sometimes I wonder how people manage so easily to deny reality whenever reality represents something they don't like. They know very well that Ming Chi Kuo is far from stupid and overall pretty reliable but they are either able to completely (and irrationally) change their opinion about him (or 'forget' his history) based on a single rumour they consider very unlikely or they just lie because what it gives them emotional gratification to shoot the messenger.

Of course, irrational lashing out is very human, but I don't understand why they cannot control themselves one bit on such a, in the grand scheme of things, trivial matter.

Lack of touch ID show's this guy is simply looking to do something different than everyone else. They've built too much into the capability to do away with it, and Apple Pay depends on it. But, he did get me to actually post something, so there's that at least...

I would love to know the stats on accuracy of non-obvious predictions he’s made (that nobody else predicted).
I am pretty sure it is noticeably higher than 50%. But compiling the stats is non-trivial. When rumour (1) says either A or B will happen and later rumour (2) says B will happen, does this count as a non-obvious rumour?

Hahaha... I'm sorry this whole iPhone 8 rumor cycle has been a roller coaster ride. Just last week people were absolutely certain that Apple would have TouchID in the screen. Now everybody's in a frenzy "again" because there's a rumor that says they might not.

TouchID is one of the best innovations Apple has ever come up with, and it would be a shame to see it go. I wouldn't put it past Apple to switch to facial recognition, however, since Apple has a history of ditching existing technologies despite their popularity with customers (headphone jack most recently).

Would there be a revolt if they remove TouchID? I don't know, but Apple might do it anyway.
