This point has been made many times in this thread, but I don't personally think it's any coincidence that he talks about TouchID removal in point 2 and his very next point number 3 concerns the new advanced 3D facial recognition capabilities.

I feel there is a direct correlation here, as it seems does the OP of this thread.
Agreed. Add to that the fact that 9to5Mac's reading of the KGI report is that there is no TouchID at all - under glass or otherwise.

With facial recognition the way it works today, that is very true. I'm wondering if Apple has found a way around this and has facial recognition working at greater distances.
Possible, but I doubt it. Still seems a lot more complicated than Touch ID.

1) He said no TouchID embedded in the display, not that there would be no TouchID at all. Macrumors are the ones responsible for the misleading clickbait headline, so perhaps you should be questioning their credibility instead.

2) Ming-Chi Kuo has the highest accuracy amongst Apple analysts. He's not always right, but he's right more often than the rest.

Apple following Samsung and moving TouchId to the back is almost as absurd as them removing it completely. Unlike Samsung, Apple has a usability reputation to protect - putting TouchId elsewhere on the device is a big step backwards from a usability perspective.

Everyone keeps saying this "Ming-Chi Kuo" has the highest accuracy - facts don't get created by mere repetition of a statement. What is the factual basis for your statement?

Thats entirely stupid though. Having a really long password makes touchID unnecessary but we have touchID for a reason.

I don't want to have to be in a well lit area and pick up my phone so the camera can see me. I don't want to have to take off sunglasses or a hat so it recognises me. I don't care if it can recognise with with a disguise on to be honest. I won't buy a phone that requires me to pick it up and point it at my face to unlock it.

Apple are not retarded. They won't get rid of touchID and I am almost certain they wouldn't move it to the rear of the device. The worst they will do is put it on the power button at the side. Even then I would be surprised.
This presume facial recognition as we know it today. It is entirely possible that Apple has found a way for facial recognition to be done via IR and at a distance so that it would be as effortless for Apple Pay as TouchID - maybe even easier.

Reckon TouchID might end up in the power button on the side of the phone like some recent Sony handsets - can't see them removing it entirely. Think it would be an OK compromise until 2018/19 when it can be embedded under the display.
While the power button might be a good substitute (versus the ridiculous notion Apple would stick it on the back), I can't see Apple doing a back-and-forth by putting it on the power button for one iteration and then back to the front the following year.

I would be actually happy if this crappy Touch ID goes away. Doesn’t work 70% of the time anyway if your fingers are not perfectly dry.
You should reset your fingerprints in iOS then and try to be more thorough this time. Everyone I saw having issues with their Touch ID did set them up sloppy. Especially the second part where you have to scan the edges.

No way they are dumb enough to fully remove touch ID, and what rely on face recognition? What about those times I'm not facing my phone, like in my car when it's mounted or when I'm in bed reaching across to my dresser? I'm definitely concerned though as we keep hearing very strong rumors that 1) all the prototypes and leaked cases have no cutouts for a rear mounted fp sensor and 2) that the under screen fp sensor technology isn't ready for release. Which does place worries in my mind that maybe Apple will be dumb enough to release this with only facial recognition. Oh well, I guess I can always fall back on the PIN.

My touch ID kind of sucks also if my finger is even just a little bit moist, and forget it if I've been working around the house and due to construction maybe my fp is a bit smooth. With that said Apple's implementation is still the best around, but you need almost perfect conditions for it to work. That's why I was looking forward to the underscreen implementation because from what I understand it won't matter if your finger is wet or smoothed out from hard work.

Maybe keep it for the '8S' and move it back with a slight redesign for the 9. Whilst I'm sure they don't think hopping about all over the place is optimal, I can't see them artificially keeping TouchID in the power button for a few years when your Samsungs, your Pixels etc will be embedding them under the screen.

3D facial recognition (*actual* depth sensing) as well as Unlock w/ Appple Watch like MacOS. :D

I don’t have to use TouchID with Apple Pay when I use my Apple Watch - and it only has a 4-digit pin on it. I could see this feature being ported to the phone. I love it on the Mac.

And some people don't want to have to take of their gloves or dry their fingers so that their phone can recognise them.

But I guess since you much more frequently wear sunglasses than gloves (or have wet fingers), that should decide what biometrics are essential and which are unacceptable.

If true, I'll just get a 7S+ this year and hold out for the next one. I'm not giving up the convenience of Touch ID and Apple Pay. I've now got it on my MacBook Pro and the iPhone 7+ and I depend on it.

Also, new-tech Apple devices always seem to have some drawback.( lack of ports usually.) I can put up with it on my laptops and iPads, but not my need-it-for-business iPhone. Besides I like the physical size of the 7+ and the way it fits in my big hands. The 8 looks to be physically smaller and I don't wanna go back.

I don't understand why so many have a problem with the fingerprint scanner in the back. I got used to it in less than a day after upgrading from s7 to s8, and actually find it more ergonomic than having it in the home button.
Because they have been bagging on Samsung phones for having it on the back. Some of these people are zealots, and everything Samsung does has to be wrong.

No way they will drop Touch ID altogether. Maybe move it to the back until under screen tech is working.

Given the way phones are being hacked by governments, businesses and criminals I'm not sure I WANT a device that can scan and identify me without my knowledge that it is being done. At least with the fingerprint device I have to actually place a finger on the phone for the verification to take place.

Working in retail at Apple it seems that Apple’s number one focus at the moment is Apple Pay. The entirety of Apple Pay hinges on its security. If you remove Touch ID from the newest flagship phone you would also be removing Apple Pay. These claims need to taken with the largest grain of salt.

I can't say that I have had many problems with my Touch ID. Extremely occasionally I've had wet hands that didn't work but wiped them on my jeans and I then had no problem. Most of the time even wet it worked, though.

It has to be under the display if another company has already figured it out, Apple must of too.

If touch-id is in the power button, it will be as if Apple took the cheap way.

APPLE YOU NEED TO WOW THE CROWDS AS YOU DID 10 YEARS AGO!

"Ming-Chi Kuo Predicts iPhone 8 Will Omit Touch ID Entirely"

That's a click-bait headline. At no time did Ming-Chi Kuo state that. He only said TouchID would not be embedded in the screen.

After reviewing other sites' headlines on this topic, MR does have the most click-bait of them all.
