Where did you come up win June? That's a bit exaggerated. If you preorder and do so promptly, your chances will be greater of receiving it much earlier. Your definition of a failed launch doesn't equate to everyone else's experience who will receive their iPhone earlier based on preparation. What you're saying is more of self biased generalization.
I was at my computer last night for the iPhone 8 prepped and ready 15 minutes before they went live. I know now that I lost a lot of sleep for no reason. I do this every year and am always ready to go right away, I don't wait. Had to wait a few weeks back when the iPhone 5 came out because I decided to order at 7am here on the East Coast, and I haven't made that mistake since.

Regardless, I wish I was exaggerating, but MacRumors posted an article a little while ago where Ming-Chi Kuo rumored that market demand for the X wouldn't be fully met in first half of 2018, that's June. Of course that doesn't mean people online at launch won't get them before, but I would constitute not being able to walk into an Apple store and guarantee a X purchase anytime after January a failed launch.

Do apple stores get fed with stock on launch day, or due to the massive preorder number they don't bother stocking physically stores? If so, how many?

I'm planing to get mine at the store on nov 3.

From claimed sales numbers, the galaxy range of phones is mopping up around 500K units per day, so I reckon Samsung can afford to let Apple have their 10K units per day without much problem....
I think I read that the Apple OLED panel differs in significant ways that slows manufacturing plus Apple is exceedingly particular about quality control. I know I know -- we've all seen iPhones with flaws. There could also be other manufacturing issues with other components. They're not known for using many off-the-shelf parts.

I just saw this too --

Remember how the finish on the Jet Black slowed everything down to a crawl? Yeah, that is this year's Jet Black.

Either you ignore the meaning of "slightly" or if you want to talk in hyperbole don't act surprised when you get corrected.

You haven't corrected me.

The iPhone 7 (4.7 inch) has a screen 375 points in width exactly the same as the iPhone X. The iPhone 7 plus is 414 points in width. So the iPhone X gains nothing in width on the smaller phone at all and is significantly narrower than the Plus models. Meaning that a lot of the benefits of the plus phone, bigger keyboard, bigger horizontal screen real estate aren't there.

The height of the X is bigger than the Plus, 812 as opposed to 736 (points not pixels), but you are losing some of the height due to the "ears" and the new UI "home" drag handle. So the net gain in usable screen space is smaller than that difference.

Any application that actually displays the status bar is going to give more vertical content space than the plus models (albeit marginally) and exactly the same horizontal space as the current smaller 4.7 inch iPhone 7. Great for list views not so much for anything else.

Where screen real estate is concerned the iPhone X is, to all intents and purposes, a taller version iPhone 7 (4.7 inch).

A mixture of can't make enough of them, and rushing them out the door as a consequence, will bode well for QC.

That's so true. Add to this Apple's track record with first generation product problems and the wise thing to do is wait for next year's iPhone Xs, or whatever they name it

It doesn’t seem like the iPhone 8 stood a chance against the X. Most people rent/lease their phones under their carriers so the $1000 price point definitely won’t deter anyone from getting the better option.

Uh, until your monthly cell bill starts looking like your car payment!

Did you forget the massively superior OLED display with a much higher resolution? The previous phones are dinosaur technology compared to the iPhone X.
Maybe so but I bought an 8+ today anyway, tried an true technology.
The x has got a few more features but it may not be out for 3 months or more.
I figure the new tech on the X will only get better and I'll upgrade next year.
I traded in my 6 for $300 so that eases the sting.

Whoohoo! Enjoy! Gotta say I *love* my Series 2. I suspect you'll be very pleased with the 8+ for a few years (save yourself the cash for something else, eh?).
Yeah just not sure I can deal with the larger size of the 8+ so we'll see.
Looking forward to the watch..got the cellular version for the full Dick Tracy experience :)
Enjoy Your 8+! Looks like it should be in my sweaty hands sometime the week of the 25th!
Cheers!

Err...no they don't!

In fact the majority of your list is not in the 7

I get it, exactly the same but different?

You're confused. Please, read the other replies before commenting. The items I listed are in tandem with the iPhone X, the Orignal OP and asked what was the differences before hand. I listed the iPhone X capabilities and the shared the similarities between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8, aside from the iPhone X Face ID and OLED display, which was already discussed four pages back. There is a difference in price point for what someone is receiving based on the various models.

I hope this doesn't come off as trollish, it's just a question, but does MacRumors have some sort of connection/relationship with Ming-Chi Kuo/KGI?

They all report on Ming-Chi Kuo's speculation or Macotakara etc. Apple rumours are the life blood of tech blogs. If there was a shaman in Peru spouting Apple-esque tongues they'd all be reporting it.

Oh Jeez, so that's what happened to Blush Gold. It got vaporized! :p I couldn't understand how a planned color could run into so much trouble and just disappear when Ming Chi Kuo first warned the Blush Gold was in trouble. I had posted that Samsung churns out all sorts of different colors of glass phones with matching metal frames, so what was the big deal?

Ah, Apple...being meticulous again, over something we are going to cover in bumpers and cases and skins or scratch all to hell anyway. But I appreciate that. It's going to be gorgeous when it's released. If it's ever released. And the silver and black will be, too.

I dunno, I don't buy this one. Something tells me those who want one will get it.

Everything Apple makes sells out and is in short supply after release. Every Mac, Apple TV and watch. Just wait for Home Pod. It will be the same.

I'm not convinced the iPhone X will be such a huge success as previous phones. I mean, what does it offer over the 8? Face Recognition - that's about it. Is that worth another $300?

The main thing it offers from my point of view is an iPhone Plus sized display with a "normal" iPhone sized body. That is my main reason of interest. I had a Plus once and loved the screen size, but sold it within a month or two because it was too large for most of my trouser pockets.

No, that's not about it. It also offers:

Augemented reality
A11 Bionic chip
Tru-Tone display
OLED/HDR display
Wireless charging
Glass backing
Portrait Mode lighting
Upgraded Camera with Dual OIS
Stainless steel
Better battery (Two hours added over iPhone 7)

What something is worth is only valued by what the consumer appreciates. So that's completely variable.

Huge omission: much better screen to body size ratio.

iPhone 8 has no notch - it's better already! The notch on the iPhone X is enough to deter me, before I've even looked at the price.

Yes, it is very much in the balance for me, all because of the damned notch - hate it.

Jony Ive --
"Ok, I'll let you guys do what you want with the notch, this time, but I get to decide the finish..."

Agreed that almost certainly I'll do a bumper or ultra-thin case otherwise I'd be very sad at the first blemish...

I probably wont get it. I wish they spent their energy on removing that ugly camera bump on the back vs getting rid of the home button.
