gugy, if you can find something that isn't a skin that will fit with the miniot cover on, I'd love to see it.

Ideally I'd like something like the Belkin Grip Vue, but I'm not sure if that'll work. What I'd really love is if there was an easy way to spray on a rubberized black coating onto it.. no clue how to go about getting that done, or the ramifications of doing it.

I asked this question on a thread but no answers. I think we need to wait for people to get their Miniot covers in order to see them coming forward with solutions for the back of the iPad.
I personally like the Incipio Feather but not sure if it will work.

not happy

I just received my miniot cover and I'm not too impressed.

The box looked good, I opened it, and it went downhill from there.

The good: it arrived very fast and had my name engraved on it.

The bad:
1. on delivery, Fedex asked for $25 in duties and shipping on top of the cost of the case.

2. The cover is actually larger in dimension than my ipad2. They screwed up the basic shape of the cover so that there is an overhang resulting in misavertant opening of the cover

3. while resting, the middle of the cover bubbles up! looks terrible and amateurish, especially for a close to $100 cover...

4. the wood is rough, and not sanded down as i expected looking from the pictures. it feels like an ikea product where i can get slivers etc

Would you mind posting some photos if you have the time? I'm quite curious as to how it looks in person(aside from the promo video from miniot).

Thanks,

danrel

@therock111

Oh no. That's disappointing all around...

Looking forward to pics or video, and also a response from Miniot about this.

notice the bunching up of the middle, with no apparent reason?

OMG, that really looks like horse piss. That has to be a mistake or a bad cover. Mine is supposed to be here in another two weeks and I will send that right back if it looks like that. Unacceptable!

Thanks for posting the pics. I'm really sorry that it came in in such bad shape. That's really odd that it buckles like that in the middle. How are the separate wood planks attached? Just by the inner felt lining? If that's the case, maybe they attached the center planks too closely to each other and the tension is pushing them up?

I know it's a first run for the cover and they were overloaded with orders, but for the money you spent on it, I'd give em hell.

Edit: maybe the wood wasn't quite dry after dying/staining it and during shipping it warped... Just a thought.

horsepiss

ha ha horsepiss! I laughed hard, because I expected this awesome cover, and was so excited to see the fedex truck pull up. Then i tore open the box, put it on the ipad, and then was like WTF!?!?!

it's so bad, that it's comical.... I'm pretty neurotic with my electronics, and collectibles, and my stuff is like pristine... (i was the kid that put all his baseball cards in plastic holders, then in binders, and then categorized them by position etc...)

I just sent them an email, with the same pics and asked for a refund. I'll post their response...

That's too bad! :(

However, if you don't mind indulging my curiosity, how exactly does this cover attach to the iPad? I don't see any magnetic hinge like on the Apple Smart Cover.

It attaches by magnet attraction however it slips if u grab it with force... It doesn't have the nice katchof the smart cover on the side...

Actually when I flip it flat on the backside it sometimes turns the iPad off unfortunately from the magnets ...

Thanks for the info!

Do you have or have you ever used the Apple Smart Cover? Mine does snap off sometimes if I put pressure on it the wrong way. Do you think the Miniot cover would tend to come off accidentally more frequently than the Apple one?

I think it slips more because the magnet attaching it is oly on too vs on the side just my 2 cents

Meh. I'm underwhelmed if that's the standard they're using. That clearly wasn't tried out on an ipad as part of a qc process.

Very anxious to hear how they respond to this. If this is normal I'll be getting a refund and getting an Oberon cover for my ipad instead. I really want this to work out though.

'Edit: maybe the wood wasn't quite dry after dying/staining it and during shipping it warped... Just a thought. '

I think it's a case of the middle slats being too wide. The magnets hold the cover in a fixed position relative to the ipad face. There is too much wood in between and it has no choice but to buckle.

I'm curious. If you look at the site you see this.

What are the chances that the slats have stacked in such a way that the grooves aren't lining up this way? Like, the bottom of one is getting hung up on the lip of the adjacent slat?

Try rolling the cover and see if you can make sure the grooves in the pic are lining up properly.

ha yeah that was the first word that came to mind when i saw your pic. I have also been drooling over the Miniot provided pics for weeks now anticipating it making my iPad look awesome. I feel like I just found out that Santa isn't real.

Actually it looks good when rolled up but I think the glued pieces weren't done right. Looks like a home job

It's like buying that cereal box for the decoder ring and then finding out it's a cheap plastic ring with the decoder sticker put on backwards lol. Except that I paid 100 bucks for it...

The phrase 'Victims of their own success.' comes to mind. I can only imagine two thoughts coming to their heads as orders start coming in.

1) Woot!
2) Oh ****...

This is definitely disappointing. I ordered a tone your own on the 3rd after cancelling my original ebay order and the total was about $125, with $24 for shipping, and now I have to pay another $25 on top of that? Wish they would've mentioned that there would be customs fees for US\International shipments.

Almost sick to my stomach thinking about how I spent $150 for something that might turn out like ish.

I hear u... Thank god I didn't spend more than the standard case. I think the problem is that it is individual wood pieces glued to a liner. They should have made the cover one solid piece and then bevelled out each strip. That would ensure that there would be no bunching.

Earlier someone mentioned that the cover,s aluminum makes it snap flat on the back.... That's not true either. The sides flop down... So basically you have to take it off completely when u are not using it.

I just watched the YouTube video Miniot put out, it definitely doesn't look like that and looks actually hand made by someone who cares. I wonder if there was a bad batch or if it was damaged in shipping?

It looks like you're the only person that has received one so far, I can't find any other reviews. You should do a quick video and put it up on youtube so at least people will stop ordering them. lol

At least the back skin looks good, which one are you using?
