It looks like you're the only person that has received one so far, I can't find any other reviews. You should do a quick video and put it up on youtube so at least people will stop ordering them. lol

At least the back skin looks good, which one are you using?

looks like a dodocase back, probably not since I know a lot of companies make backs like those.

Hey guys. My two miniot covers arrived this morning. Here are some pictures and initial thoughts:

My thoughts: The packaging isn't the greatest but it isnt bad either. The cover itself is OKAY. It fits good but its a slightly bigger than the iPad. It doesn't bother me really. It's not very visible and you can only feel it.

I like the way it folds. It snaps real good when you roll it to get that round circular form so it can act as a stand. The cover feels a bit loose when you hold the case against the floor in the air and it basically is just a flat cover to place on the iPad. When the cover is placed on the iPad it doesnt utilize the magnets on the side that the smart covers grip uses. Instead this cover just uses the magnets on the screen to HOLD it. When you snap it into position it takes use of the magnets on the side to get a good and solid grip of your iPad.
You can't let it rest on the backside of the iPad2 with the cover still snapped on the the iPad.. If you want to use your iPad with the case you have two options.
1. Take it off and place it somewhere else.
2. Roll it so it will take that standing position and use it that way.

It has the auto wake and off functions like the Smartcover has.
I will upload a video later today if i have time. If you have anything you want to be shown in the video, post it here.

PS my english isn't the best because its not my primary language.

So... Fedex charges duties because the thing is made in the Netherlands.
The back is actually a cheap skin from ebay from the juststickit brand.

The post that just went up looks good, and it looks like the website photos/photoshopped! That's what I wanted mine to look like!

But alas, I think mine will not be the only one with problems. There seems to be a very fine line between having the thing assembled properly, and having the bunched up defect.

I also am surprised that the poster tadde doesn't mind the bigger than ipad dimensions. Basically with the thing hanging out, if you grip your ipad with 2 hands the thing really bunches up in the middle by pushing both sides inwards, and also it keeps opening accidently whenever i accidently open it.

So you can't flip the cover upside down with the felt side on the back of the ipad to use while using it, I assumed the magnets that hold the cover to the top would hold it to the back as well. This is a deal breaker, I dont want to have to store the cover when I want to use my ipad on a plane.

Finally, knowing what you know now, for those of us whos can still cancel, would you rather have the Leather Apple smart cover instead at the same price point?

I don't know that any magnetic cover will hold on to the back of the iPad the way you want. I suspect that any magnet strong enough to do that would turn off the iPad. I know that my Apple Smart Cover certainly doesn't stick to the back. However, it is easy to stow when off because it holds in half in a flat position. Or, to put it more accurately, I don't "stow" the cover, I just fold it in half and keep it in my lap.

It's funny because my friend at work went ape**** when he saw it from a distance, and said how much he liked it. Then when he picked it up and then inspected it, and saw the defects, felt the roughness of the cover, saw it sliding when gripped it , he started to not like it. He started seeing the flaws.

I still think it's better than the smart cover because it's more unique, but I wouldn't pay what I did for this, until they iron out the bugs.

DO NOT buy - cancel order if you still can

Honestly, as beautiful as the wood looks, the case is not well made and it is not functional. It is slightly bigger than the ipad, noticeably bigger and it folds in the middle, which adds on to the sensation of the case being flimsy. What's worse is that you cannot easily fold it back without removing the case completely in the process.
The folding process is not as seamless as it looks in their promotional video. Also, I found the apple smart cover more stable in landscape viewing mode.

The only pro about this cover is that it is very comfortable in typing mode and the viewing angle is better. Not a good enough reason to buy one though.

So, if you are still in time cancel your order - I am not sure they accept returns and even if they do you would probably have to pay for the shipping cost back to europe.

I am seriously considering cancel my order too.
If I have to pay duties in th USA on top of the high cost of this cover, them that's it.
It's a beautiful cover but it doesn't look very stable or functional at this point.

Yeah... sounds like you got your bubble burst like me... I just tried the landscape stand mode, and it actually stands almost 90 degrees. Makes me scared that it's going to tip over, because the groove that the ipad sits in is not very deep. I would actually agree with your suggestion about cancelling until they guarantee a fix. Especially if you bought a non-standard one for over $100.

i didn't realize I needed the folding back as much as I do. It's so inconvenient to have to hold on to the wood piece seperately, so I put it behind the ipad even though it doesn't magnetize (because i am in motion or standing quite often when using it) and the floppy sides are pissing me off, and then it turns off the ipad as well because of the magnet. Still haven't heard back from my email about the refund...

I did not have to pay duties, and I am based in chicago.

... mine actually fell off a couple of times in landscape stand mode... dodocase or smartcover are better and cheaper options in my opinion

This thread has convinced me to cancel my order and order just a classy black leather Smart Cover or even the dodo case, atleast I know it will function as intended. Too bad, it could have been spectacular like we all thought. I bet all top case lists will remove Miniot they get their hands on one.

Yep, just email asking to cancel my order and a full refund since they already charged my cc. Too bad the looks are fantastic but they seem to have many issues at this point for a case this expensive.

I just received my miniot cover and I'm not too impressed.

Unfortunately, due to temperature and humidity issues, a number of Miniot Covers appear to have been shipped which do not meet our standards.

Hello, this is my first post here as I joined in January when i bought my first set of Apple Products. Macbook Air 13" Ultimate, 2 Apple TV's, Ipod nano with lunatick watch kit, and ipad2 64GB white Wifi. I am slowly moving to everything MAC. Waiting for imac refresh before i buy the latest 27".

I have to say that i purchased a custom miniot ipad2 cover that cost me $122.00. It was scheduled to be here for another 5 weeks. After seeing these pics, just the thought of it has turned me away. I just sent an email asking to cancel my order and was immediately send back an email saying that the order has been canceled and a refund will be issues as soon as possible. Just the though of having to pay international duties, or return shipping cost on a product that may not live up the the hype changed my mind. Thanks.

Sorry, but I am going to play devil's advocate here: I am not sure this has anything to do with production issues. It seems that are some design flaws that are structural! Like the fact the the ipad is not solidly locked in in landscape mode or the fact that you cannot flip the cover back easily - like in your promotional video - without detaching the case completely from the ipad.

I have not received an email from them yet, but I will post responses. If it's a situation where i have to pay return shipping, and then i have to pay duties of $25 again on the replacement, I'm not going to return it, because it will cost me more than the cover!

If it is a defect as they claim they should at least give me a discount or something.

just received the following email from miniot

Dear early adaptor of the Miniot Cover,

If all is well you received your Miniot Cover. We've worked hard to get this entirely new product
into your hands as soon as we could.
While we are very happy with the fit and function in general,
unfortunately a number of Miniot Covers has been shipped that might not meet our standards.

Hints for use.

- The Miniot Cover is manufactured in a controlled environment, and are in perfect order when packed,
but temperature and humidity shocks during transport may warp it or change its dimensions.
The acceptable size deviation is ± 0,7 mm.

- The Miniot Cover is made out of one piece of wood, sliced into 11 pieces.
Because each part gets its own tension after slicing, a slight warping might occur. This is acceptable up to ± 0,5 mm.

- Because of the effects described above, the fit might be too loose or too tight, either in flat or rolled-up state.
Because this also changes the alignment of the built-in magnets, operation wil not be optimal.

If you recognize one of the effects above, please wait at least 6 hours after unpacking to let the wood adjust to its new environment. Don't force dry, warm or cool it, just let it rest in your normal environment.

If the problems still occur and if you feel you received a Miniot Cover you are not happy with,
or which doesn't work as shown in the YouTube video,
please send your Miniot Cover back to us on our expense by Priority Mail.
You can print the attached pdf in this mail and put it on the package.
Please make sure you put your order number on the outside of the package.

After you have emailed us a proof of dispatch or a copy of your shipping receipt,
we will send you a new Miniot Cover, approximately within two weeks.

Best regards

Peter Kolkman
The Miniot team

I still have not received the email confirming my cancelation. I will wait 48 hrs before send another one.
While I am happy to see Miniot is acknowledging the issues, I just feel not knowing the product I will receive meet the highest standards is just a big turn off. Maybe that's why dealing with wood can be tricky.
Anyway, I hope the best luck for the folks who have ordered.
