Hey guys. My two miniot covers arrived this morning. Here are some pictures and initial thoughts:

My thoughts: The packaging isn't the greatest but it isnt bad either. The cover itself is OKAY. It fits good but its a slightly bigger than the iPad. It doesn't bother me really. It's not very visible and you can only feel it.

I like the way it folds. It snaps real good when you roll it to get that round circular form so it can act as a stand. The cover feels a bit loose when you hold the case against the floor in the air and it basically is just a flat cover to place on the iPad. When the cover is placed on the iPad it doesnt utilize the magnets on the side that the smart covers grip uses. Instead this cover just uses the magnets on the screen to HOLD it. When you snap it into position it takes use of the magnets on the side to get a good and solid grip of your iPad.
You can't let it rest on the backside of the iPad2 with the cover still snapped on the the iPad.. If you want to use your iPad with the case you have two options.
1. Take it off and place it somewhere else.
2. Roll it so it will take that standing position and use it that way.

It has the auto wake and off functions like the Smartcover has.
I will upload a video later today if i have time. If you have anything you want to be shown in the video, post it here.

PS my english isn't the best because its not my primary language.

After reading your post, I have several questions,
So the miniot cover does NOT fold flat against the back of the ipad like the smart cover does?
Is there any magnet on the wood side so at least I can flip it backwards and stick the wood against the aluminum bottom for hand held reading
Btw, is it sturdy when it's rolled for typing position?
Are the first 2 photos in walnut wood?
Thanks

Correct, it does not fold flat against the back like the smart cover.
The only thing that's actually good about the cover is the typing position. the viewing angle is great, better than the smart cover and it feels pretty sturdy

Letting it acclimate makes sense. You do the same thing for wood flooring.

Yes, it's walnut.

Well, I have had mine for 24 hours, and it still is the same. The acclimate comment does not hold in my opinion, because these are separate pieces glued to a liner. Therefore expansion and contraction are already accounted for by the give and space between pieces.

Where it would hold is in the production process. If they used the wood to create the covers before letting the wood acclimate to THEIR environment, then it would create issues where the wood could expand or contract after they glued it to the liner.

Your logic holds true if you lived in the same climate they do. If they swelled after being glued and mailed to you, it would cause this issue. Prior to swelling it may have been perfect. Where do you live? I'm guessing it's a humid climate.

I live in Canada near toronto which has a climate similar to new York or Chicago and near the Netherlands which I have visited. I would say my climate is not very humid in the winter/spring.

I still haven't heard anything from my email.
I actually dug into my bill and it turns out that iwas charged 20 bucks for shipping and then paid 25 in duties on top of that! Anybody else pay this much for shipping? I wrote them asking if I would be charged duty a second time for the replacement but haven't heard anything yet

Not sure if anyone got the email about the order status of covers.

https://www.miniot.com/webshop/?portlet=miniot&page=orderstatus

It shows their progress so far of orders fulfilled, and they're at 75% done with orders submitted on 3/28. My cover has now been delayed to ship the week of May 9-13, or at least planned to. I guess the upside to that is it still gives plenty of time for more reviews as they trickle in to really decide if I should cancel or not.

Sent them a question regarding paying duties again when getting a replacement. Hopefully they can reimburse me the cost of the duties so that I will not be charged duty for a replacement purchase, that was their fault in the first place.

While it was funny at first, I am getting really annoyed and upset by the whole process. They shipped me a crappy cover, they should take it back and refund me the money, or send me a new replacement one free of charge. That's only fair considering the cost of the damn thing.

To all the people bitching about duties; that is a function of where you LIVE.

So if you live in a fabulous place like CAN-A-DA, be prepared to pay a duty tax. Whereas the United States exempts tax on imports up to a certain amount, which is more than the $100 or so for the Miniot Cover.

In addition, if you return the item to Miniot, if there was a duty tax due on the return shipment, it would be Miniot's responsibility to pay to their government.

K, thanks!

Now add yourself to the list of folks 'bitching' about duties, since that's the subject of your comment. And you're most certainly being bitchy... Just calm down, take a breather and realize that not everyone knew of or what duties even are. You could have easily taken a much nicer tact with folks here. Be nice :) No need to be so rude.

Tried using the pre-paid PDF form, but postal office won't accept it. It is for the Netherlands only.

Just wrote an email for them to reimburse me postage I pay, or if they can send me a prepaid fedex form or something.

Anybody else have any problems with the pdf form?

I had the same problem, but fortunately my post office accepted it. I took a couple of photos with my iphone, as the post office would obviously not give me a receipt for the package, and emailed miniot the pix as proof of shipment. They said that was fine and they would send a replacement out asap. I am not sure they will ever get the case back, I think the label they sent me won't work but as long as I get a new case back I don't care :) anyway, that worked for me...

Update on pick your wood orders -

Apparently these are not pictures of completed ready to ship covers, but computer generated images of what the cover should look like based on a particular piece of wood. Given that, Im not sure how they are going to ensure that your specific piece of wood is chosen, but we'll see.

I'd assume they tag it the same way they'd tag the completed cover. They'd just pair the wood with the order # rather than the finished cover with the order #.

How would a magnet help you stick the cover to the ALUMINIUM back ?

in addition, if you could read, you would have understood that he was referring to the duty he'd have to repay when his replacement shipment arrived. But I guess you were in too much of a rush to educate everyone with your vast knowledge about tariffs.

Me lulz @ you

Team America, **** yeah, comin to save the mother .... day YEAH!!!!!

If anyone wants a brand new one in Walnut...I think I'm going to sell mine. It's in perfect shape. Nothing wrong with it. Drop dead gorgeous. Just doesn't suit my needs.

And Miniot's own YouTube video has deleted and disabled all comments\commenting.

Too bad the functionality doesn't equal the aesthetics of it. There should definitely be a price drop.

That was an excellent review on the video. It really is a beautiful product, but I have to agree after seeing it in action. It's not nearly as convenient as a smart cover is. Really goes to show how really well thought out the smart cover is.

I've cancelled my order with Miniot. I'll probably be going with an Oberon Design cover instead so the back is protected.

Good luck all, hope you enjoy it when you get it!

Nice review on YouTube.

I agreed with the guy there, the fact it becomes two separate things when you open the cover is a pain. I thought it would be connect at all times. That's a design flaw that Miniot did not address and did not show us in their site.

That said, I requested to cancel my order two days ago and a full refund and no answer from Miniot. Kind os distressing because I don't know what will happen. I hope they will not ship the order and I already notice they charged my Visa right away when I place the order.

I love the look and design of the cover but the functionality still lacks unfortunately.
