Lester just finished up a complete game, 2 hit 1 run performance where he struck out 11. He was perfect through 6 1/3 with 10Ks on only 65 pitches!

With the 8-1 win, the Sox retake sole possession of 1st place in the AL East. :D

Looks like Beckett and Lester are finally rounding in to form... Beckett has now made 6 quality starts in a row and Lester has had back to back games with 12 and 11 strikeouts respectively. If they both keep this up (and dicek pitches average), the Sox could be tough to beat.

They still need to address shortstop, because Lugo is beyond awful. Hopefully Lowrie will be back in a few weeks and can take over. And something needs to be done with David Ortiz. You can't have a DH who is the 2nd worst hitter in MLB among qualified batters...

Red Sox dominated the Yankees tonight. Ortiz hit his first real home run in the 2nd inning and they chased burnett out in less than 3 innings. The sox offense scored 7 runs.

Beckett gave up 1 hit and struck out 8 in six innings, and the sox bullpen only gave up one hit to combine for the 2 hit shutout victory.

What happens when...

- Your team is fighting hard to move into last place

- your old manager was a nice guy, and your new one made everyone go "Huh."

- you ace couldn't get a medical waiver from the insurance company to sign a contract extension, and immediately goes on the disabled list

- your bullpen blows chunks

- your fans are laughing about your draft choices

... well if you are in Phoenix they will reward you as one of the cities 25 most admired CEOs.

Not a lot of upstanding businessmen left in Phoenix?

At least Penny is pitching so we have a chance to win.

Looks like Ortiz got into A-Rod's stash.

D-Backs have some good players, me thinks. Justin Upton, Stephen Drew, Max Scherezer. Keep Eric Byrnes and trading Carlos Quinton for a bag of donuts was really dumb though. But, They also drafted the Boerchering kid who by all accounts is supposed to be pretty good (in 5 years).

just got home.. that game was ****ing awesome. i'm soaking wet but i don't give a ****. sox are 8-0 against the yanks this year :D

Nice! I went to last nights game (also my first Sox/Yanks game)...did you guys keep the "you do steroids" chant going?

Yeah. It was great when Penny drilled him in the 1st too. :D

Also, did you see that amazing catch Johnny Damon made in the 4th? oh wait... ;)

Looks like the Sox Aces might finally be rounding in to form :D

Beckett's last 4 starts:

8.0 ip, 5h, 1r, 0er, 1bb, 5k
7.0 ip, 3h, 1r, 1er, 4bb, 8k
7.2 ip, 2h, 3r, 0er, 2bb, 9k (no-no thru 6.2)
6.0 ip, 1h, 0r, 0er, 2bb, 8k

28.2 ip, 11h, 1er, 9bb, 30k (0.31 ERA, 0.69 WHIP, 9.4K/9, 3.33K/BB)

Lester's last 3 starts:

6.0ip, 3h, 1r, 1er, 3bb, 12k
9.0ip, 2h, 1r, 1er, 2bb, 11k (perfect thru 6.1)
7.0ip, 2h, 1r, 1er, 2bb, 11k

22.0 ip, 7h, 3er, 7bb, 34k (1.22 ERA, 0.63 WHIP, 13.9K/9, 4.85K/BB)

The first 6 innings of Lester's June 6th start against Texas might have been the best pitching performance I've seen in the past few years. 18 up, 18 down, 10 strikeouts on only 59 pitches!

Hopefully they can keep this up. If Beckett and Lester are this dominant, they are definitely the best 1-2 punch in the league, and I like the idea of them starting 4 of 7 games in a playoff series for us. Now only if Dice-K could pull his head out of his ass... (or maybe they could call up Buchholz, he's probably the best pitcher in the organization behind Beckett and Lester)
