How the *bleep* is Morneau not #1 in All-Star balloting? He means more to the Twins than Teixeira or Youkillis means to the Yankees or Red Sox. I mean, Teixeira couldn't hit the ball until he got protection from A-Rod... he was hitting like, what, .240 until A-Rod came?

Who did you guys vote for All-Star Game?

AL:

OF - Jason Bay
OF - Adam Jones
OF - Torii Hunter
C - Joe Mauer
1B - Justin Morneau
2B - Aaron Hill
SS - Jason Bartlett
3B - Evan Longoria
P - Roy Halladay

NL:

OF - Ryan Braun
OF - Juan Pierre
OF - Raul Ibanez
C - Brian McCann
1B - Albert Pujols
2B - Brandon Philips
SS - Christian Guzman
3B - David Wright
P - Johan Santana

I tried to pick a mixture of traditional All-Stars, veterans, youngsters, people who truly have the best stats, and non-traditional All-Stars

It doesn't matter what the player means to a certain team. It is about setting up an AL team that can beat the NL again. :D And you can not deny it that Teixeira has been hot lately.

Because of A-Rod's protection. Morneau, for the most part, has been hitting without a serious hitter's protection. Kubel has helped as of late, but he isn't nearly anything compared to A-Rod, which I think you will agree with. I doubt Teixeira will stay hot into July. They both play fantastic defense, though.

I guess Matt Cain has finally, finally turned the corner on his career. Shut down the A's today to go to 9-1 with a 2.39 ERA. He's right up there with Lincecum amongst the top starters in the NL. Hope he gets a fair shot at the All Star Team.

Hell, actually... thinking about it... I think Russell Branyan deserves the all-star vote himself... He hits with absolutely no protection, and has a better sluggage and on base percentage than both Morneau or Teixeira. The only thing he really lacks is the fantastic defense, but he deserves it for turning his otherwise disappointing career around.

Don't forget about Youkilis or Miguel Cabrera.

About the same shock level of Wang having a what? 14 ERA or so? But, at least Wang can pull the injury excuse. What was Johan's excuse? The Mets curse? :p :D

Sosa Said to Test Positive in 2003

Sammy Sosa, who joined with Mark McGwire in 1998 in a celebrated pursuit of baseball’s single-season home run record, is among the players who tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug in 2003, according to lawyers with knowledge of the drug-testing results from that year.

The disclosure that Sosa tested positive makes him the latest baseball star of the last two decades to be linked to performance-enhancers, a group that now includes McGwire, Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez and Rafael Palmiero.

Sosa, who is sixth on Major League Baseball’s career home run list and last played in 2007, had long been suspected of using performance-enhancing drugs but until now had never been publicly linked to a positive test.

In a recent interview with ESPN Deportes, Sosa, 40, said he would “calmly wait” for his induction into baseball’s Hall of Fame, for which he will become eligible for induction in 2013. But his 2003 positive test, when he played for the Chicago Cubs, may seriously damage his chances of gaining entry to the Hall, a fate encountered by McGwire, who has attracted relatively little support from voters in his first three years on the ballot.

The 2003 positive test could also create legal troubles for Sosa because he testified under oath before Congress at a public hearing in 2005 that he had “never taken illegal performance-enhancing drugs.”

Corked bats don't help hit home runs.

You mean to you don't think there is a psychological advantage to using a bat you think will help you to hit the ball farther? Judging from the mental capacity we've seen Sosa display in the past I doubt he understands the physics involved in whether a corked bat will make a ball go farther or not. Additionally, it is possible that the decreased weight associated with a corked bat could have also increased Sosa's bat speed allowing him to "catchup" with a few more fastballs (even a slight improvement in bat speed could account for at least a few homeruns). Provided the bat wasn't too light he'd still be able to connect for plenty of homeruns. Regardless of if a corked bat actually increases homeruns, it would still be cheating and I'd still love to know.

corked bats are lighter and thus allow the batter to swing faster, which helps hit home runs

Yeah, when the Mythbusters did it, they really screwed it up because they missed that point. They used a robot to swing the bat to get a constant swing each time, and discovered that there was no difference between uncorked and corked., but the robot was swinging both the uncorked bat and the corked bat at the same speed. The robot was never adjusted for the fact that you can swing a corked bat faster due to the lower weight.

Which can mess up you timing.

If you aren't used to an cheat/aid, all they tend to do is mess up players.
