So they are either resting Beckett because the division is a lost cause or he is injured and would have been out even if they were only 2 games back.

WTF is it with the Phils?! Can someone please remind them it's not Christmas yet -- not yet time to give nice gifts to other teams like wins for them? The way they've been playing lately, they don't deserve to win the NL East title.

Well, looks like the Angels just won the AL West.

Unfortunately it's the Twins. My boss is from MN, we talk crap, and they just put up just enough of a fight to make it interesting but ultimately, same old story. I'll be shocked if the Angels deal.

I know that's our formula. Unfortunately, I am just old enough to remember both '87 and '91.

Just old enough to make it painful every year, I know, I am a dreamer...

2 things will happen, Twins make it into playoffs and pick up momentum by getting past Detroit and become a spoiler. Or Twins make it into the playoffs burn the pitching in the process and get blown out in the first round.

The Red Sox are not the same team that kicked your ass, they are going to limp in themselves.

Touche -- that's a very good point! :D Having been following them for almost 30 years now (used to live near Philly for many years), too used to the "lean years" where they were merely the lovable losers. Ah, the days of if they got close to .500 (even if they were 20 games below), that was considered a great year. ;)

HOME OF THE WORLD SERIES CHAMPS...

Twins one game back! booya!!!

I was talking with my friends about it, and wouldn't it be weird if we won the World Series? I mean, this is perhaps one of the worst teams the Twins have had since 2002. The starting rotation is shakey, the bullpen has been much improved but still isn't as good as it was from 2003-2006, and perhaps our biggest offensive threat, Morneau, is out for the season.

Look at 2006. We had the MVP, the batting champ, the Cy Young winner, and multiple Gold Glove winners along with Cuddyer producing like he is this year and several other players having career years and we got swept first round of the playoffs by Oakland.

And does anyone else think Cuddyer has a shot to be MVP this year... at all...? I mean, the guy has done a phenomenal job for the Twins... Playing above average right field, playing some centerfield when Young was out and Gomez, playing phenomenal first base when Morneau is injured, and really the only reason we are still in this pennant race being thour main offensive contributor for the past couple weeks. I think they should definitely consider him. While Mauer/Teixeira/Cabrera will probably win it, I definitely think Cuddyer means just as much to this team, if not more, than Mauer at this point.

Not THAT weird. Not any weirder than the 2006 Cardinals winning it all. The 1987 Twins were not that impressive a team going into the playoffs, winning a weak division and upsetting the heavily-favored Tigers in the ALCS. Take a look at the 1988 Dodgers roster and you'll shake your head that a team putting up those numbers won it all. It happens quite often.

None. At all. Mauer will get all the MVP votes on the Twins and probably deserves to win it, although a lot of people seem to think that Jeter will win it instead.

OK, so let's see...

Magic number: 1 for both the Phils and Dodgers, and 4 for the Tigers.

Looks like the AL Central division title is the hottest remaining race, with the Yankees, Angels, and Cardinals having sewn up their divisions. (And with Dodgers guaranteed post-season play, along with it being a virtual certainty for the Phils.)

I think I'd like to see Tigers and Twins decide it in the 9th (or in extra innings) on the last day of the regular season. I'm sure Procter and Gamble (maker of Pepto-Bismol) would agree as well. :D
