In cheerier news, Orlando Hudson became the first Dodger in franchise history to hit for the cycle in Dodger Stadium, in the home opener.

Even cheerier, the Dodgers stomped all over the Giants in the same game. :D

I can't remember ever seeing such a weird scheduling move as this one. LA's home opener on a Monday, a day off, then the rest of the series on Wednesday and Thursday. I've never seen a day off in the middle of a series before.

I was going to say... but it's early, and you can count on even a lousy SF playing the Dodgers tough in any given season.

Neither can I. Very odd. Usually these anomalies in scheduling are a result of broadcasting issues, or at least seem to be.

Opening day usually has a day off in between for rain. If they get rained out they use the off day. The past few years a lot of teams have had a break.

Not around here they don't. Opening day at Dodger Stadium has never been rained out, and I believe the number of rainouts at Dodger Stadium have been less than 20 total in over 50 years.

Josh Beckett has been suspended six games and fined for throwing a head-high pitch at Bobby Abreu of the Los Angeles Angels, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday.

MLB disciplinarian Bob Watson said Beckett was suspended and fined an undisclosed amount for the pitch, in Sunday's game at Anaheim, and for his "aggressive actions after the pitch that incited the bench-clearing incident." His suspension was due to begin Tuesday night, unless he appealed.

Angels' hitting coach Mickey Hatcher was also suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for his actions during the incident. His suspension was also to take effect Tuesday.

Angels' manager Mike Scioscia and players Torii Hunter and Justin Speier were also fined

Thats the most unfair suspension the MLB has ever given out. He wasn't even ejected from the game. Joba Chamberlain throws two fastballs at Youkilis' head, is ejected from the game, and gets 2 days, Beckett throws one, isn't ejected, and gets 6? Give me a break. Wonder who Watson used to be GM for?

As an Orioles fan, tonight's game could be an adventure. We have Alfredo Simon starting for us against the Rangers line-up in their ballpark. Might get ugly.

I don't think those are 6 pitched games are they? He will miss just one start.

Yeah, just 6 games, not pitched games, as far as I know. Was Joba's starts? If so then I retract the above, but I believe it was just 2 games and a $1000 fine.

I don't remember if Jaba was in the pen or not. I know he did miss a game or 2.

Maybe in places where they get rain, but not in Los Angeles. I believe there have been six rainouts at the Ravine since it opened in 1962. And three of them were from one storm about ten years ago. That can't be the reason this time.

They said he it into to many double plays so they made him lead off.

Not exactly a vote of confidence in him, if that's true. If he has too many GIDPs, it's a sign that (1) he often doesn't make good contact, and (2) he doesn't run to first very well. So leading him off just means that he'll ground out instead.

The old aways were grey with red "BOSTON" on the front and red lettering/numbers on the back.

I don't know anyone who really likes these new uniforms
They're basically the same as they were in the 80's.

Can't be worse than Wang did last night. Even Nick Swisher did better!

So can we blame the WBC for the horrible pitching we seem to be seeing. Matsuzaka looked like crap last night.

sweet opening for the new toilet

sizemore just hit a grand slam, and then victor martinez hit a solo shot 2 batters later.. its 10-1 in the middle of the 7th

We aren't playing in Fenway yet, and it isn't new.

Don't be jealous because we get a new park and you don't.

Wow, the Blue Jays are on fire! I know it's still way early in the season, but 13 wins already!

14-0 last night against the White Sox. The Jays had 21 hits, and only 1 home run. Plus, solid pitching from a fill-in starter.

I haven't been this excited about the Jays in 15 years. It's the Cito magic..... it's back, baby.

I'll have to catch them when they play in Anaheim.

Go Jays Go......

****ing umps blowing calls again, how do you call Ellsbury safe even tho he was tagged out on the leg 2 feet before touching the bag.

the marlins, after a hot 11-1 start, went on a week long losing streak, getting swept by the keystone state and are now 11-7 heading up to new york. i think their pen is worse than ours (the braves), if you saw how the first two games of the philly series turned out. i would watch out for the pirates though, after whipping up the padres (hot streak, it's over and it's back to loserville they go).

the rays are also bad, losing another series...i wonder if this is the ws loser curse setting in...i hope not.

and of course, the braves are mediocre, back to .500. why can't we play great baseball? but then again, it's only three weeks into the season, long way to go yet.

Phil Hughes made a nice comeback. 6 scoreless innings 6 strike outs with only 2 hits.
