I agree whole heartedly. I would have prefered them to say it was going to be down for 2 days, bring it up as soon as possible and see how many find/hit it for the day or so that is left. Hindsight is 20/20. I'm guessing there will be a big 'lessons learned' meeting in about a week.
Yeah it's quite a sad state of affairs... Apple has been doing this for over 20 years, by now they should have got things right... We have a simple policy in software development: If things don't work roll them back.
The mobile me servers were online before they released the web version, dotmac was working fine before then.
In fact, I've been reading IE 7.0 is not even supported! That is PANTS. 90% of web users have IE, if you a mobile me customer, chances are you will be using it from an internet cafe, which would generally mean IE..
To be honest, I don't really see much difference in ME to dot Mac, the only nice thing is at least when you get a new message you don't have to click another folder, then click back on the inbox to see it...
There are no filters, no smart mail boxes, I guess the gallery is much better, idisk is OK... Although you can't use files in there from mail... If I wasn't so embedded I would stop using it. But the problem is I use my mac account for all my mail. Work block outgoing ports, so I have had to use gmail for the last couple months because dot mac web client was so bad, now me is unusable LOL.
