I don't quite get what me.com does that mac.com didn't.
Apple wants its services to become more ubiquitous, so they can lure more PC users away by not requiring them to switch operating systems entirely, at least... not YET.

Because the MobileMe service will be so nicely integrated with iPhone and its web app foundation makes it platform agnostic by nature, calling it ".dotmac" limits their potential pool of users. MobileMe patches into ALL of Apple's devices, from iPhone, to iPod, to Apple TV. It will no doubt become more and more prominent in iTunes as well.

In the end, Apple intends to cash in on what Time magazine did when it named "YOU" the person of the year in 2006. It's all about personalized service that allows everyone to be their best, and have their life represent an effortless continuum of information and interconnectedness. It's not about the INTERNET-version of the MAC computer. It's about what Apple computer can do to improve the efficiency of how you live your life. It's all about YOU, but moreover, that inner dialog you carry on with yourself.

That is to say... it's all about ME.

Close credits.

Hey is anyone else having trouble setting up Mobile Me on a PC?
I'm using XP and I went into the Mobile Me preferences and tried to turn on syncing with the computer, but got an error message saying that I should try again later. Anyone else having this issue and/or know of any workarounds?

has anyone gotten the push contacts to work? When I turn it on, it ease all my contacts on my phone, but it hasnt sent them for my Mac yet.

^^ why wouldve Apple not hosted the update yet? maybe there are problems with it? im not updating until it appears in Software Update.

My feelings exactly. When people downloaded the 2.0 update yesterday, it would up being a different version than the final release. Especially after all of the problems that have been going on lately, I'll wait until Apple decides its ready to be released!

Although, I really do wish they'd hurry it up already! And, a speed bump to MobileMe (like, a major speed bump) wouldn't hurt either.

Apple just pushed out the 1.1 update which upgrades Mail to 3.4. Just downloaded it via Software Update.

it's not showing up in mine either.

I'm going to wait until it shows up for it.

I clicked one of those links yesterday and I cancelled the download half way through and then trashed it. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

I'm pretty sure that pushing anything to the mac requires the software update, which very few people currently have. And even then, with the speed that MobileMe is currently moving, I doubt the push is going to be very push-like

which software would that be, I'm running 2. on the new iPhone.

i have somehow the feeling the people a apple finally woke up. they got the basic functions to work. then they stopped distributing the mobileme update to everyone because the servers are overloaded already. they probably have a few beige G3's as servers:rolleyes:. i guess in a few days we finally have mobileme sytem prefs and push mail.

well at least i get my .mac functionality back. activating my iphone at 8:30pm est worked like a charm. the iphone seems to have priority. the online service of apple sucked anyway even before the mobileme fiasco.

but for the near future i'm fine with what i have: .mac functionality and iphone software 2.0 and a few apps. pushmail can wait and the mobileme update will eventually come.

KOOL AID slurping fanbois will have great trouble selling anymore of their "be patient / its' in transition / they never promised......" BS about Apple's dismal performance on this complex launch.

MM is down or slow as a snail - can't even get into my account page.

BTW - for clarity - it will be fixed - but this poor launch could of and should of been avoided.

Okay, Okay dude, you've made your point. YOU'RE RIGHT OKAY. Is that what you want to be, RIGHT? So at this point what are you going to do to make it better? Nothing! There's nothing any of us can do at this point but wait and be patient. Or with your attitude we may as well cancel our Dot Mac subscriptions, buy Windows machines and signup for Microsoft's web crap. Is that what you plan to do? Because a person that hates on everyone here for being patient would do that.
Your name calling is not appreciated.

Here's the weird thing...

I run a Software Update Server in my house; my server has mirrored the MobileMe update from Apple, however when I run Software Update on my client machines it still tells me I'm up to date.

So that begs the question, what exactly determines if you're eligible for this update?

Maybe I misunderstood something, and please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but anytime I update something on either the web service, my iMac or my iPhone, it should be reflected on the other respective devices, correct? If this is the case, then why is iCal still trying to manually sync with my iPhone when I connect it? Why when I add an event to iCal on the iPhone it updates the web service but not iCal on my iMac?

There are two very likely reasons for your syncing problems, and it's probably a combination of the two:
1) You don't have the newest software update for your iMac, since Apple hasn't pushed it out yet (at least not to many people)
2) MobileMe is clearly not fully up and running yet. It's likely that push will be slow or non-functional until they finally figure everything out.

So I was correct in that at some point everything will push to each other and I won't have to worry about manually syncing anything? The reasons you stated make sense. How would I know if I had the newest software update from Apple? Is it an actual OS X software update? I have the MobileMe software update (from the link posted in this thread, a few posts up I believe), though I'm not sure if that's the one you're referring to or not.

bit the bullet

Well, decided to bite the bullet and get it now despite all the complaints. Usaing the 60-day trial

1. Used my Dell Windows XP as a guinea pig (did not want to screw up my mac, besides I have not applied all the updates yet).
2. Itunes download was 60 mb.
3. Followed the instructions to setup my outlook 2003. Hung a couple of times when setting up the mail information.
4. Used same instructions / settings to setup my Palm Centro smart phone.

Sent a test email from my gmail account.
On my Palm, I have to click Get to get my mail. But then again, I had to do that with all 3 of my emails accounts. Not sure if my Palm can truely handle push. but my email comes across.

On my outlook in my Dell, well... I hear the tone that I get new mail when I click send/receive (ok a little impatient to see if push really works). But where is it?

*Edit - Never mind I found my outlook mail, it seems there is a separate mail.me.com with its own inbox. I am sure I can probably change outlook so that all my mail goes to one inbox (maybe have to setup a rule or something). But hey, it seems to be working.

Found one little glitch, not sure what to do about it . In my outlook 2003, I have 2 email acounts. one of which goes through an exchange server, the other through mail me. My exchange is not connected as I have to sign in through a VPN. I would have thought that the mail.me would send the email, but it gets stuck in my outbox and never sends
Well, on my palm centro I sent an email from my mobile.me to my gmail and it got there.

From my PC I could see my idisk. uploaded a 116kb jpg photo. Slow as anything, but got there and i could see it from my webrowser on another PC

Sent an email from my gmail to my me account and it showed up in my outlook in about 2 minutes (automatically without clicking send or recieve, so looks like push is working) - not bad.

*Edit - found the problem with my palm cento, I did not have sync turned on, now I get notified when i have an email and I can go right to it.

My only problem now is syncing my calendars and sending email from outlook. this is probably because of the fact I have mobile me and exchange setup and it is getting confused.

Tomorrow I backup and setup my mac. also setting it up with iweb. ;)

You are correct, this is how it SHOULD work, but the push technology is obviously having issues. I have finally just got my calendar to push a few times, but is seems to have trouble pushing from the 'cloud' back down to my Mac and my contacts won't sync at all, in fact they won't even display in MobileMe. The 'push' I have seen occur is more of a delayed sync than a push so far too

Where is the MobileMe idisk share files functionallity?

I mean I cant find that 'Share Files' Button!

Before I came to work, I was able to push a calendar change from my iPhone to MobileMe. It showed up in MM in about 5 seconds. I was then able to delete it from MM and it deleted on my iPhone instantly. There was no change on my MacBook, however, due to the lack of update availability.

They should have held off on the MobileMe update until next week. It's clearly buggered the entire system and is far more difficult to fix.
