I've been trying to figure this out too. Is it supposed to be delivered through Software Update? Will Apple send us an email with instructions? How is this supposed to work???

It comes through Software Update, but don't worry you are not missing anything, MobileMe works no better with or without it... the syncing and pushing is really not working correctly at all!

I'm fairly confused right now. Push works on some things and not others. It seems to be working best between the iPhone and the web interface, but it seems as if the iMac (iCal and Address Book) aren't receiving or sending anything.

Added contact in web interface:
Shows up in iPhone: Yes
Shows up in Address Book on iMac: No

Added event in iCal through web interface:
Shows up in iPhone: Yes
Shows up in iCal on iMac: No

Added event in iCal on iMac:
Shows up in iPhone: No
Shows up in iCal on web interface: No

Deleted contact in contacts in iPhone:
Deletes in web interface: No
Deletes in Address Book on iMac: No - Never showed up to begin with

It's almost arbitrary as to what works and what doesn't. I'm confused. I'm sure it'll get worked out. I still don't know what MobileMe software update people are talking about. I downloaded the one that was posted as a link here for the MobileMe software update and it updated my System Preferences, but that was about it.

Pretty much similar to my findings and almost useless to use..

i may just turn the PUSH features off and rely on the itunes sync until it all gets resolved.. at least all my stuff will remain sync'd in the meantime :)

I've been looking through the settings in webmail and you can change your 'from' address. Which should answer an earlier query about wanting mail to be pushed from another address, but not wanting it to send via webmail as from a me.com address.

(edit: and there's a spam filter)

I think maybe everyone should take a breather, and just let this get sorted and settled down, before looking for bugs and finding things that don;t work. Then once the dust has settled (say, monday) all businesses affected can make their claims for compensation...

Different timezone here as well. Can't change it in the preferences. When I save the correct zone, it reverts back to the defaults...

I thought timezones weren't working until I realized that setting the timezone for your account in the account panel isnt enough, you have to set it in the calendar app too. Now it works.

Are things supposed to sync automatically, ie change on the screen without having to reload/refresh? I made a change in my calendar on the mac, did a sync on there and nothing updated on the webpage and I left it for 10 minutes. Eventually I went to change a preference, that caused it to reload events and it updated ...

I'd have thought it it was supposed to update like that, there would be a 'sync' button, as there isnt I was expecting auto updates.

I clicked on this just to see what it would do and before I knew it, I was installing something ... can you please tell me what exactly did this install do?

All it will install is update Mail to ver. 3.4 (from 3.3) and change all .Mac references to MobileMe.

For those still waiting for the update, I just downloaded it through this link (http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/31/26/zzz061-5130/gZ5bfX79JhhCXfMyvhhPFHBcmwMpJnTzMX/MobileMe.pkg). Not sure if it is the 1.1 or 1.0, but it changed .Mac to MobileMe on my MBP.

You shouldn't need to manually do anything, it is all supposed to happen instantaneously and without any user input. Here is Apple's description of MobileMe..........

"Push email. Push contacts. Push calendar.
MobileMe stores all your email, contacts, and calendars in the cloud and pushes them down to your iPhone, iPod touch, Mac, and PC. When you make a change on one device, the cloud updates the others. Push happens automatically, instantly, and continuously. You don’t have to wait for it or remember to do anything — such as docking your iPhone and syncing manually — to stay up to date."

i just installed mobileme update 1.1 using software update,i was trying software update but it always telling me there is no update, so i installed the
first mobileme update (1.0 the leaked one) then i opened software update
and mobileme 1.1 was there.

Yep, it should...just like Back To My Mac sounded before it came out.;) Been a year, barely even works.

Thanks for the tip. I've done this now.

Yay, calendar sync is working again. Embarrassingly, I had to sync it with my PC/Outlook to get it to work or maybe that was just a coincidence.

That leaves pretty much everything working, except for Mac or PC sync which is still manual rather than push. Web interface is still slow, but usable.

Well, I bit the bullet and installed from the posted link earlier. I figured since I waited for the official 2.0, why not try some "un"official MobileMe?! :p

Anyway, it changed .Mac over to MobileMe but I'm still not convinced this was the update needed. Nowhere in my Mail 3.4 app do I see anything about Push. The only options I get for Mail checking are manual or timed syncs. And I cannot get the 1.1 update to show up in Software Update. In fact, someone easily could have made this .pkg and just changed the reference text and icons for all I know.

Oh well.

And then put it on an apple.com server?

I'm a bit confused about the 'send mail as' feature in webmail.

I tried to put in an alternate email address, but it said: 'This field can only contain letters, numbers, periods(.), quotation marks ("), and underscores(_).'

edit: I think it's just to change the Display Name.

^ Agreed. This POS service still isn't working. Well done Apple! The Corporation should not get a pass on this.

At present, it appears that push via mobileme apps and iphone is working (e.g. if I do an update on either of these it shows up on the others) but on a mac or a pc there is a minimum of 15 minute delay. I don't have the update (so still says .mac) but every 15 minutes it is either updating the cloud or updating from the cloud which isn't as good as push but at least it's kind of working...

It is pretty cool with the iphone -> mobileme updates though :)

You are correct, it is on an apple.com server. I just said that out of frustration after waiting and hoping this would start sorting itself out.

Could the Push thing be BS going from webmail to Mac? I mean, with .Mac we already had an automatic sync feature and mine would sync at various times when it wanted to. As it stands now, if I make a calendar event on my iPhone, it goes to MobileMe web in ~5 seconds. My Mac will sync very soon after that, and then it appears in my iCal. So, what is so big about Push? I'm either confused, lost, or too wrapped up in this.

It does only let you change the name that appears when sending (so in certain email clients your name or whatever will show instead of your email address) - I think by default it is your name so if you want to have something different to that then type it in there.

Ok to all the guys who are confused about push services or want to know why its not working..
First of all, push service is for only iphone/ipod touch and web apps. Not for macs/PCs. For macs/PCs its the same syncing service that was available in .Mac system preferences.
So, if you create an event or contact or whatever on your mac/PC, it will not show up in either iPhone/iPod touch or the web apps untill your mac/PC syncs it. For different persons the settings for sync is different. First of all make sure sync is turned on in the system preferences under MobileMe/.Mac settings. Then, if you want your mac to sync the events or contacts every 5 mins, set it to automatic. If you want to do manual syncing or syncing in the intervals of every hour, every day or every week, set it accordingly.
Now for those of you who said that they created something on their mac and it didn't show up in the web app or vice versa, follow the above steps and if its set to automatic, wait for it to sync or click the sync now button and you will see everything on your web app, iphone/pod touch and mac in sync.

Ok, you have no idea what you are talking about buddy... push works also in both pcs and macs...
