Well, CPU frequency isn't everything, if they had faster FSB, increased cache, and changes to the CPU architecture, they could be faster even at lower clock speeds. That's why we had over 3 ghz Pentium 4's but we just barely hit 3 ghz on Core 2 Duo chips last year, it all has to do with heat, architecture, and other variables!

I see. But for some reason it still doesn't seem likely to me. I mean, all the way down to 2.0 GHz? Maybe moving others down to the 2.4 GHz mark, but I don't know. It just seems weird, especially with all the other rumors circulating. No way could all this stuff get out, because this is a lot of info. Guess we'll know in about two hours from now.

no matte??? what a joke!!! i will wait for the next rev.
Next rev. will also be glossy only. You might as well go buy yourself a Windows box then.

I'm glad, that I like both Glossy and Matte. Both have their weak and strong points.
What I'm looking forward to, is to see the quality of the LED/LCD itself. The LCDs in the current MacBooks are absolutely horrible.

I'm really looking forward to the event. Will order either the Book or the Pro straight afterwards.

I'm just having a laugh at these dudes, they base their whole expectations on a bunch of rumours and then cry when it's not what they want. Apple hasn't even annouced anything yet but they are crying because of rumours.:D

Oh no! People upset about rumors on a rumor site! The blasphemy!

Note: The point of this site is to discuss rumors*, both positive and negative. People discuss them if they were true because otherwise no one would discuss them at all, and the site would become pointless.

This is confirming my fears that Apple is really caring less about its computer business lately. The "Walmart of technology" name seems to be pretty appropriate. This update seems so half-a##ed and disappointing. I'm still going to buy one of whatever they put out (because I still love OS X and think even this leaked design is better than most), but I'm really rather angry that it apparently won't have been worth my 10-month wait.
Wal-Mart of technology you must be kidding me and why would you buy something you don't want, vote with your wallet.

I'm really disappointed that there is no new cheaper MacBook. Even though I'd very much like to have a MacBook, I just have a hard time paying $999 for a notebook when I can buy a Dell notebook for $599 that has 3GB of memory and a 250GB hard drive.

Bummer... I'm going to be in class during the "media event." My classroom is in the basement and cell service is very spotty. Damn. :(

I just hope Apple does not remove firewire from the Macbook's. That would be a very poor move on there behalf.

Being in class is a great time to wait till 5 or 6 est and watch the keynote. I know I will stop checking MR once the event beings. Then, I'm going to watch the presentation when I get home from work.

There not new. Posted earlier today. Giz and Engadget have only just picked up on them.

Dude the so called professionals are becoming a minority in Apple's world now. Get used to it. :D

Hey, the more consumer models sold, the better the R&D budget. Buy all the MacBooks you want. But Apple, DON'T ignore the professional market. Please.

In fact, if matte screens are more accurate, and can be better calibrated, then why not release ONLY matte models, and sell cheap shiny screen sheets for people who don't care such things?

Then why are engadget and John Grubber calling the new MBP a "graphical powerhouse" :/

I'd guess because they don't know any better, though hopefully I'm just being cynical. (Oh wow, the number's higher! :D )

I just cannot comprehend why they'd put a 9600M GT in there and not a 9650M GT when the latter is cooler, smaller and more powerful.

It better be BTO...

If there is a 9700M GT BTO then I will **** my pants and pay £3k for it.

I have zero interest unless they hit at least a 9700GTS. Zero interest in the 8600GT and it's equivalents :(

Such a shame, I've been holding out hope for a netbook-class machine. Basically all I want is an OSX version of the Eee 1000 - 1.6GHz Atom, 1-2gig RAM, 40gig SSD (8 fast, 32 less so) 1024x600 TFT (although I certainly wouldn't complain about a HP Mininote-like 1280x768) with the usual connectivity trimmings (wireless and bt at the minimum).

I could seriously use a roughly 1kg machine on the go - something that light can be slung in my bag and carried wherever.

Unfortunately these rumored updates hold no interest for me.

Well, unfortunately for me, at least, my girl will likely be pleased I won't be dropping yet more money on shiny kit ;)

So, did anyone notice that the store is down? LOL!
I am so not getting a thing done at work this morning. This is agonizing! Will it ever start?

He is the only one who can sell that crap and make it look wonderful after his speech.

I really do not know what is going on at Apple, surely they are relaying on the fact there are not clones that can proof they are doing barely nothing to lead regarding technology.

It seems all the brains are going towards the iPhone.

I am sure the next mac pro revisions are gonna be as sad as this one.

I better keep my quad G5 for a little longer.
Another useless post whinning.

Glossy lossy

Of course this all speculation and who knows maybe Apple is getting people to disseminate willfully false info so that when the real thing arrives everyone is grateful BUT.... if its anything like what is being predicted then its in keeping with Apple's policy for the last ten years which has been to produce consumer computers which are less and less appealing to anyone wanting to do anything that is vaguely creative and more and more aimed at jo public who just want to check their emails, upload a few pics, watch the odd DVD. We have a whole line of consumer computers, which are underpowed and underspeced, unupgradeable, unreliable and over priced.

Being in class is a great time to wait till 5 or 6 est and watch the keynote. I know I will stop checking MR once the event beings. Then, I'm going to watch the presentation when I get home from work.

I would not be able to resist! I should be focusing on work now, but I just can't. :p

all stores down now

yep, all stores down with 2 1/2 hrs to go (well, 5 hrs for me as i will be in the dentist chair and running errands at this time)......

please apple, don't disappoint - I have never seen so much negative responses at the last minute

If you are going to keep the current macbooks, at least drop them to $500-$800. and if you are gonna offer a $899 display, please make it that imac-like doc.

Give us a trackpad that is a built in wacom.

 - please; as I hold out for any hope here.......

They did upgrade it, but from 8600M to 9600M, so not exactly thrilling

That's my point. That's not an upgrade. I don't care about any of the 8600GT equivalent GPUs...they're all effectively the same thing in the scheme of things. Only real upgrade would be to a 9700GTS or better.
