According to my pretty reliable sources, sub $1000 MB is definitely going to be announced. Only thing is it's not going to be available immediately for SALE.

You will see in @ 3hrs.

Yesterday a guy who works in one of London's apple resell stores said he'd heard the lowest priced MB would be £599, which at current exchange rates is around $1,000. Given the premium UK customers pay for import etc. I reckon in the states you'll definitely see an MB below $1000. The cheapest UK MB is currently £699.

Yep, they were posted on pg 3 of this thread....

Am I the only person that thinks the rumored $1599 model will NOT be a regular MacBook?

I'm thinking 13-15" Pro or even a MacBook Air.

yep, all stores down with 2 1/2 hrs to go (well, 5 hrs for me as i will be in the dentist chair and running errands at this time)......

please apple, don't disappoint - I have never seen so much negative responses at the last minute

If you are going to keep the current macbooks, at least drop them to $500-$800. and if you are gonna offer a $899 display, please make it that imac-like doc.

Give us a trackpad that is a built in wacom.

 - please; as I hold out for any hope here.......

Now Rev. you know all the praying in the world isn't going to do any good if you are thinking Apple will drop the prices of even the current Macbooks to $500 or even 800 more than likely (maybe 899 for the low-end one and I even highly doubt that).

I'd guess because they don't know any better, though hopefully I'm just being cynical. (Oh wow, the number's higher! :D )

I have zero interest unless they hit at least a 9700GTS. Zero interest in the 8600GT and it's equivalents :(

Judging by the pics this thing is NOT thin, it looks as thick if not thicker (with contours) than the current MBP, the processor is smaller, the chassis has been redesigned, there is power saving from the CPU and with HybridPower cancelling out the negatives of a high end GPUs drain on the battery..

With the will to do it a 9700M GT could be BTO in my opinion, it'd run pretty hot, sure, but it'd be doable, and it'd make up for the travesty of thinking it's ok to charge £2000 for a laptop with a 9600M GT.

What a joke..

Of course this all speculation and who knows maybe Apple is getting people to disseminate willfully false info so that when the real thing arrives everyone is grateful BUT.... if its anything like what is being predicted then its in keeping with Apple's policy for the last ten years which has been to produce consumer computers which are less and less appealing to anyone wanting to do anything that is vaguely creative and more and more aimed at jo public who just want to check their emails, upload a few pics, watch the odd DVD. We have a whole line of consumer computers, which are underpowed and underspeced, unupgradeable, unreliable and over priced.

Sad, but true. When Apple became iPod Company, it stopped being Apple...

Huh? I said "ever since SJ took over, it's been all about form over function". I didn't say form over function doesn't sell -- it does, as anyone who has ever seen women's shoes would know. The fact that 12" heels sell, doesn't make them practical.
So what, everyone is different and likes different thing. Apple is catering to the crowd that makes them more money, sorry if you feel that they are leaving you behind.

2.0 Ghz possible

There is a 2.0 ghz chip in the newest batch of core 2 duos on wikipedia (I know, I know) - P7350 - Medium voltage, 25W tdp compared to 35W on the current macbook penryn chips.

I fear (as an AAPL shareholder) that this 2.0ghz rumour is spot on, and the upside will be that Apple sell a longer battery life.

Whether this is "better" in the average consumer's eyes for the price...

apple store is NOT up!

(i mean Australian one)

Oh darn it. It was up 1 minute ago. I tell you it was up. I saw it. I'm not dreaming. I really did see them. I'm not making this up. I really really saw them
Do you think it's all in my head? :(

hoping for matte ...

I was ready to give my 17" matteHiRes Early 2008 MBP to my girlfriend and get myself a new one. The money's waiting. But if it's glossy only, I'll definitely keep it for a long long time.

Meh, Apple's crowd is more knowledgeable than you'd think....I don't think Apple is going to "leave behind" the a/v professional. Especially not with their significant investments in PRO applications, i.e Final Cut etc. Apple will always offer a "high-end" model.

Yeh, you should really see a doctor, or wait till the keynote ;)

horrible. horrible. horrible. i'm counting on all these rumor sites that mirror each other are WRONG!

no 17 inch redesign but spec updates.... come on. ridiculous.

Remember that the 17" Macbook Pro wasn't released until March (after Macworld 2006 in January)

Apple is going to completely miss out on a huge buyer pool by keeping the pricing at $1299. Like it or not, you can configure a very nice PC laptop for about half that price. Hell, these days you can get a nice Lenovo Thinkpad for that price that will be far more durable. Apple really needed to get a decent machine out there for under 1K in order to grab the entry level market share. Also, 2GB of ram is kind of a joke these days at that price point.

They have to remember - while they are still increasing their market share with the current systems - you can't keep relying on dedicated Apple users forever. The common person is going to be looking out for the best deal. People may be willing to spend a few extra hundred bucks for OS X but they are not going to spend an extra $600.
Apple said that over half their customers are people who haven't used a Mac before, and that number is probably growing, as I said before Apple knows more about business than most people in this forum.

...

This doesnt sound right. It seems way to sloppy for apple, leaving previous models for sale for only 100 dollars less. And then paying more for a slower procesor?!

I think Apple has punked us all and released false information, either that or i guess im not getting a mac book. Paying more for a slower processor is out of the question
