Huh. $1400 for the 2.4Ghz Macbook?

I paid just under $1200 for a refurb 2.4Ghz/160GB/4GB RAM MB earlier this year. Granted, the new one will probably be much better than mine when it comes to the GPU, but color me underwhelmed if Gruber's estimates of the new Macbooks are correct.

The MBPs, love or hate the new design possibilities, sound much more interesting, what with the Hybrid SLI stuff.

The new LED display sounds absolutely great though. I'd love to have two connected to a Mac Pro some day.

I hope the "no matte" rumor is false :(
It probably isn't. The leaked photos have confirmed to be true by two sources, and the photo shows an MBP with an alu iMac-style display, with a black bezel and a glass that goes all the way to the edge. Since this means the camera is behind the same glass as the display, you can't have a matte glass, or the camera image would be one giant blur-fest.

Hi All,

I am Mr.X.

I can confirm that the leak about the White MacBook is in fact correct.

The new product code is MB402LL/B. I am surprised no-one has discovered this yet.

In the past you will see when they change the "A" to a "B" it is just a simple speed bump.

For example MB062LL/A was the White MacBook 2.16GHz. They released the White MacBook 2.2 which was MB062LL/B.

The current Placeholder code for the MB402LL/B is K36+ GOOD BTR-USA.

Enjoy.

The Rumor about the LED Apple Display is also true. It's description in the system is: Apple LED CINEMA DISPLAY - USA.

The batteries also have not been disclosed yet. Here are the codes MB771LL/A - BATTERY 13-INCH MACBOOK.
MB772LL/A - BATTERY 15-INCH MACBOOK PRO.

I can also confirm that M98 is the MBP. M97 is the new MacBook.

This also explains why there is no other battery's listed. MBA don't have replaceable batteries, the MBP 17" is rumored to be left as is hence no need making a new battery. The new revision white MacBook will use the existing MA561LL/A battery. Which leaves the two MacBook and MacBook Pro with batteries.

Yours Sincerely,

Mr.X.

Ok Mr. X, Then my only 1 question is.... Will the MBP have the Option for a 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo? Or only a 2.53GHz as rumored in this thread?

Thats really the only real deal breaker for me here. If the Stock MBP is 2.53GHz thats fine, as long as there is a BTO for 2.8GHz

This doesn't make any sense. No 17" and keep the white 2.1? Please, since when does apple do these things. I can buy a 2.1ghz MB for 800 tonight, why would I buy it for $999 plus tax tomorrow...apple's not dumb, at least I hope not

LOL! This is funny! All these people crying over a glossy finish....

I said it twice already I'll say it again:

IF YOU ARE A REAL PROFESSIONAL YOU DONT DO COLOR CRITICAL WORK ON A LAPTOP SCREEN
First off: STOP SHOUTING!

Secondly: I'm sorry, but you repeating your nonsense doesn't make it less nonsense.

Besides, people who prefers the screen not to get in the way and reflect all sorts of things while working with all sorts of things will choose matte over glossy any day. Only people who prefer their laptop to be an expensive movie player only used in the dark will gain anything. So quit being apologetic.

If you do, then it obviously isnt that color critical so quit crying. Hook your laptop to an external monitor (just like I and many many others do) and do all your color critical stuff on there! Simple!

Do you think everyone is only working, not only at a desk, but at the same desk at all times?

So John Gruber saw the new MBPs in the flesh? If that's the case, I want some of the stuff the designer for the new MBPs is smoking.

As for the new MacBook prices, I also want some of the stuff that the person who drew up that price list is smoking. "Old" MacBook, with FireWire(!) and a faster processor going for less than the "new" MacBook?

The 2.53GHz processor is a 35W TDP quad-core. It'll smoke a 2.8GHz dual core in most areas.

I'd really love to know why all of you people hate glossy so much? What's the big deal?

You can't calibrate them. Or, rather, you can calibrate them, but it is pointless, since the calibration benefit will be killed by even the slightest reflection.
Moreover, the only point in glossy screens is to increase contrast and shine. Current matte LCD are already too constrasty and too bright for photographic purpose, you need to tune them down and calibrate them to make them realistic.

Moreover, the glossy LCD need to be used in specific conditions. Your girlfriend is working at home, where she can position herself however she wants to. The point of a notebook is that you have work to be done and you must do it here and there. If I have work to be done, and I'm at a client's, and there is a large window in my back, I can't afford not to work because I can't see anything on my stupid glossy screen. Likewise, if I have to work in the train, in a park or anywhere else. It's a *pro* *notebook*, its main purpose is to work outside of your house. It's not to watch movies on the plane - there are must cheaper specialized devices for that, and at home you have a wide screen HD TV for that.

My girlfriend is in her third year studies of graphic design and she's using an iMac 24" at home for all her work. It's glossy and she doesn't seem to suffer from it being glossy?

What kind of work does she do? Does she have to ensure that her work is consistent throughout the whole graphic pipeline down to her customer's output? Does she have to deal with photography and fine art printing?

If indeed Apple goes the full glossy way, the only point of interest will be that the previous matte MBP will be soon available at destocking prices...

I don't blame the guy for leaving Apple. It's not just about the lack of a Matte for the Pro version, or no firewires, or the fact that prices are being jacked up, etc. Add everything together and look where the Company is headed. Plus I hear they might be selling off their Final Cut and Logic Software. They're going in the exact opposite direction of what their ads claim they are. They're going in the opposite direction of the artist that kept their company alive for many many years until their ipod/iphone came along. Now they try to jack up prices and be cut throat ? I'm laughing at this update. More money for a stripped down Macbook with less features ? lol

Blimey. The moaning has already reached fever pitch on here. Imagine what it will be like with solid facts?

Wait until tonight. I don't think this report has it nailed.

With all the crying over the monitor before we see it in real life is just silly. Grow up. If you don't like it get old model for cheap. I guess Think Different went out the Window. If you people were running the computer industry we'd still be on SGIs. :p:p

Good luck with getting one with a non-yellowing screen, silent audio hardware and works with every projector. (All widespread recognised support issues sitting with Apple).

I have one. It's the least impressive Apple I've ever bought and it cost the most.

I think it could be very clumsy doing certain things - like clicking and dragging. Apple keeps trying to reinvent the mouse. All you need is multi-touch and two buttons. The rest is a gimmick as far as I'm concerned.

I think the whole point of multi touch will be to be able to click on the trackpad with one hand and use the other to drag stuff on the trackpad.

Just a thought though.

If Gruber is right about leaving around the old models while introducing new ones, this update will truly be beyond belief in all the wrong ways. It's almost as if Apple is saying, "Yeah, we know how highly anticipated and necessary these updates are, but hey, we're going to just screw around until we feel like actually changing all of our notebooks."

Redesigned MacBooks should have been introduced at MWSF 2008. And no, the MacBook Air does not effing count.

I like the look of the new feet. The look much more durable and less likely to get knocked off than the current ones. I'm down to 2 feet on my first-gen MBP now...

"Mirror" screen a deal breaker

OK, IF (note I said IF) this story is true and the glossy screens are the only option, I am out of the Mac business for good. I absolutely CANNOT stand the glossy screen. It is like sitting 15 inches from the TV screen with all the reflections from everywhere coming right into your eyes. If you darken the room, then it's like looking in the mirror.

I hate PCs with all their headaches; but glossy screens mean even more headaches and I am not going to sink $2000 in a laptop and hate every time I look at it.

I am really upset IF this is true. How arrogant of Apple to take away the matte screens and offer NO option. I may look for one of those deals I've read about where you can actually run OS X on a PC.

Apple, WHAT are you thinking????????

(IF this report is true)
